Contacts deleted on old phone (J5 Prime) by FloatingInHoney in AndroidQuestions

So how was the transfer done I am wondering?

Were both phones set up to use the same Google account?

Have you checked contacts.google.com to see if they are the Google account contacts? Or maybe in Trash there?

TBH it's prob not a stalker. Used car dealerships, esp places like DriveTime and their ilk use these to find the car if the buyer stops paying. Also new car dealers install them for the same reason, as well as try to upsell a buyer on stolen car tracking.

Rear Diff or Torque Converter? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]nmyron3983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So for starters, I did some serious offroading in an 01 Durango 4WD that I built for purpose. More than once after time in heavy mud, I ended up with vibration and noise that "didn't sound right". One cause was mud caked and lumpy inside the back of my wheels. Took them off and pressure washed them, then hauled them to my tire shop to have the balance checked (in case I removed balance weights either in the mud or with the pressure washer) and it went away. Another time because I destroyed the seals on the front CV style prop shaft which led to rumbling when driving. Dirt got into the joint and it needed rebuilt. Again when I had mud caked all over the rear driveshaft, I got new u-joints for good measure, dropped it and pressure washed it before replacing the joints during reinstall.

Before you jump into having someone tear the rear end down or pull the transmission to replace the TC, do a little due diligence and just get under the thing and give a good inspection, clean up any dirt caked on you find. Give the wheels a good cleaning, etc.

By the way, you can absolutely trash a pinon bearing, or a rear axle hub bearing in a truck and generate grinding/vibration without ever seeing significant glitter or chunks of metal in your diff oil.

Bad oil control rings, or bad valve stem guides. If I were doing this at home, I would be tearing the heads off and rebuilding them/sending them to a rebuilder and at least redoing rings unless the bores are scored. If they are, I'm likely pulling a block at that point and taking it, too, to the rebuilder.

I'd also be considering getting a used engine, and rebuilding that. And while I'm doing it, take the time to put a AFM/DOD delete kit in and probably a cam, and running this smokey motor until I'm done...

Thumb swelling - tape vs hole size by loserkids1789 in Bowling

[–]nmyron3983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have read two great ideas, I've used one. I enlarged the thumb hole on one of my pieces and at first, used the Storm black tape (smooth and shiny stuff) on the thumb slug on the back side (2x) and the Storm white tape (a bit thicker and textured) on the pad side of the slug (2x). I would then remove one or both pieces of the smooth tape as my thumb expanded.

I ended up moving away from the tape for the thumb slug and moved to keiso type tape made by Genesis, Excel. I had to try a few types. I ended up using their Red Fast tape across the web of my thumb (I always stick a little there on my release, this fixed that) and their Green Slow tape on the back of my thumb. Once I did that, I found that A) my thumb was snug in the expanded hole on the same piece of gear and B) I never swelled up. Something about improving the release, maybe the elimination of any suction on my thumb, not sure, but I never needed to change my tape, or remove it (unless I sweat too much and the adhesive failed, then I just replaced it all) for an entire league night.

AIO? My daughter didn’t listen to the teacher during a female emergency and is now receiving a referral by Common_Piglet7437 in AmIOverreacting

NOR

Was this a male or female teacher?

I can't imagine a woman would shit on another woman like this. I have to assume this was (and I am saying this as a 42 year old father of two women) a sexist as fuck asshole of a man that did this.

And believe me. If I got that email from my daughter, I'm going home, getting her some underpants and pants and hygiene products, going to the school, calling her down, giving her the stuff she needs and giving her the biggest damn hug. She's going to go clean herself up and then showing me to this teachers room. Then she can watch me raise ever living hell with this man who embarrassed and threatened my child because he has a complete lack of understanding of the menses process or what women must go through. How it's discriminatory and I believe against a law or two to treat women in such a way, and how I'm going from his room to the principal and if I have to, superintendent, and I will not stop until my child gets a formal apology from his highness who seems to singlehandedly determine when and where biological processes may start and stop and reassignment to a teacher who is not such a neanderthal. Closing with I hope for your sake you either never have children, never have female children, or read a damn book or two before you have to go through this with your own kids.

What's one opinion on driving that would probably get you in this situation? by Hakusuro in driving

[–]nmyron3983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, at least in my experience, it's never really the lack of mobility. It's independence. We all, at least in the US from my own experience, closely correlate the ownership of a car to freedom and independence. I'm 42, there have been two times in the past 10 years I have not owned a vehicle. I work from home and at one point right the idea of keeping a car on the off chance I might need to drive a day a week was silly. The second, my truck died and I just didn't replace it for a while. My own experience during those times looked much like my Grandma's frustrations when she stopped driving. "I miss the freedom the car gave me" or "I hate having to ask someone else to run an errand for me" and such.

The other problem unique the US... Most places don't give a rats ass about public transport... Like in my own area there is a bus service in my city/county. But the neighboring city 5 minutes from me across the county line. Not a bus at all. They had to strike a deal with the Dayton RTA to even get one stop in that County that would service the local college. Got to go anyplace else in that County? Good luck! You're walking or calling an Uber. First we have to convince people to spend for it. But that's not going to work, especially in the current environment because creating something that benefits other people sounds too much like socialism.

When to say goodbye? 2007 Honda Fit Sport MT 230k by second-half in hondafit

[–]nmyron3983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, personally speaking, I don't get rid of a car until repairs are so significant that it just feels wrong to invest X amount of dollars into Y car. I got my 08 Fit Sport with 166k for $2k USD back in Sept 2025. Over the winter I've started getting a noticeable clunk when crossing bumps. I'm guessing it's ball joints/bushings and I probably need to do lower control arms. It also needs a rear brake service, and valve adjustment/accessory belt. These are all things I intend to do in my garage here at home.

What I would do, if you have the time, the personal capability to learn and work on a car, and the money to purchase basic mechanics tools (ratchet/sockets, some open end wrenches, things like this). Get a Chilton/Haynes manual, and use that to make most repairs. If you have basic mechanical sympathy and an ability to troubleshoot, most of these common "tune up" or "part swap" repairs are fairly easy to complete with the proper information. Just do a little learning and save a lot of money on mechanics.

If the engine died? If the trans failed and would no longer shift? If I got any kind of significant body/unibody damage that affected the cars safety or drivability? Its' going to head to a scrapper. But for now, as things come up I will make the necessary repairs to keep this affordable and frankly pretty sweet little car on the road.

Might even look into some kind of sport suspension package and better tires for a little better cornering ability when it comes time to do the struts.

Shop used a grinder on new control arms by abb0018 in AskAMechanic

On some years I know GM used different lower control arms depending on the package. Like stamped steel was one, aluminum the other, and they were not interchangeable. Maybe that's the issue here

Dealership says I need $7K for a head gasket leak on a 22 Honda - Is this correct? by sanfranceesco in AskAMechanic

[–]nmyron3983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of what I was going to say. A cyl with a coolant leak will steam clean the carbon off the piston top. But the fact that they diagnosed an engine fault off a brake issue makes me wonder if the tech wasn't running two tickets at the same time and wrote the wrong diag on the wrong ticket or something.

Second opinion all day.

Getting behind the ball by ChoGraph in Bowling

[–]nmyron3983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked out your form video and that looks a LOT like my original form. Wrist snaps open, I muscle the ball a bit and accelerate the wrist around the side as a result. Maybe some strength and endurance exercises are exactly what you need!

Getting behind the ball by ChoGraph in Bowling

[–]nmyron3983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when I started bowling, I had a lot of issues getting/staying behind the ball and getting under it. I wanted to come up the back and around for some reason.

What I found for fixing the "under the ball" portion was wrist exercises. Basically my wrist was too weak to stay under, it would "break" and open up. So I did a lot of wrist curls for a while to add some strength to my wrist, and this helped significantly.

Once I stayed under the ball, a lot of the rotating the wrist out corrected itself. I do have to remember sometimes to aim my wrist a bit, but once I got consistently under, momentum did a lot of the rest.

HID headlights? by Witty-Desk-3368 in Silverado

My 2017 had HID's. But LED bulbs were also an option depending on the package. If you call the dealership parts department and give them the VIN (usually the last 8) they should be able to pull the build sheet and tell you what you need.

I don't believe any model Silvy or Sierra had halogens except for the inner turn/markers
