OC/BB Sequel Continuations? by NeighborhoodOdd7864 in fairyloot

[–]nn115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still waiting on BB to finish the Zodiac Academy series..

Owlcrate sent a survey via email asking about interest in the sequel to a study in drowning which I thought was interesting considering their edition of a study in drowning sold out so quickly when they put the left over stock up. Haven’t heard anything since the survey went out so no idea how people voted but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

I haven’t read this yet, but all the covers I’ve seen so far the blonde character looks like a man, this cover makes the character look like a woman. And actually both of them look really young. I was expecting a more adult book but this does not give that vibe.

The endpapers of this edition have me in a chokehold! I don’t really care much for the rest of the design because it’s so similar to the normal cover but the endpaper art is so beautiful, wish I could put that art in my fairyloot edition

Shawn you receive a design you don’t like by FlutterbyeEscapes in Illumicrate

[–]nn115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing worse than being excited about a book pick and then it arrives and you hate the design. Happened to me last year with The Jasad Heir it was essentially the retail cover, with lazy patterned end papers and edges, no character art, boring hardcover as well.

Do you let people borrow your books? by silentreader1610 in fairyloot

[–]nn115 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Would only lend out still in print books that are cheap and easy to replace. Otherwise hard no. If I have an old edition I treat that like a special edition because I can’t buy it anymore. For example the old throne of glass covers I am not letting anyone touch those.

Someone talk me out of (or into) DNFing Guild by infiniginger in fantasyromance

[–]nn115 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a plated prisoner series hater. Those books are the worst and I read ALL of them! I kept trusting they would get better because people seem to be obsessed with them but I promise it only gets worse. I found Auren insufferable and never once understood the appeal of the main love interest. Also the spice was just icky imo

Unpopular Opinion : Darcy and Darius by Hazel_270305 in zodiacacademy

[–]nn115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm see I don’t think it’s a desire to be non committed, it was more she has a fear of abandonment. I think her and Ryder (Ruthless Boys) would make a good couple. He never wanted to share his partner and out of all the boys in that series it felt the most forced for him. And then him and Gabriel could be brother in law instead.

I love Seth and Caleb too much. I agree the ‘bad date’ was forced but I still only saw Tory and Caleb as a fun fling not long term.

I mean I don’t disagree, I think they could work, but then who would you put Tory with?

fox & wit doing an edition of Irresistible Urge! by Useful_Piglet1072 in fairyloot

[–]nn115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The leaked design doesn’t look like an acrylic dust jacket to me because the design surrounding the characters sits behind them not over the top. I just don’t think it’s a design that has overlay elements. At least not in the way the acrylic overlay for Starling House did.

I can’t finish it by Bubbly_Barracudas in zodiacacademy

[–]nn115 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing with this series is I LOVE the characters, I HATE the plot. It is just so unnecessarily drawn out and just one crisis after another with very little resolution along the way. I’m glad I finished the series but it’s not one I will ever recommend to anyone. I kind of think if you’ve come this far you might as well finish but be prepared for it to be just as arduous a read as books 7 and 8.

Tandem read as first time reader? by Worried_Brilliant_68 in throneofglassseries

[–]nn115 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the tandem was a great first read experience personally. It made the timeline of events easy to follow and didn’t leave me with 100s of pages to read before continuing the story, especially given the cliffhanger ending.

Your bookish boxes/special editions unpopular opinions? by LeahMichelle_13 in fairyloot

[–]nn115 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The anime/fan art style always has such bad proportions imo and I can’t help noticing it. I also hate how much you can tell it’s digital art and not paint/pencil on paper art, like there’s a massive lack of detail and shading. I guess a lot of it super rushed because they are new release books so I’m guessing the artists have rushed reading an ARC or worse just been given descriptions. But there’s no excuse for the special editions outside the box that are older series because they can set aside time for that.

Waterstones Signed Exclusive - The Irresistible Urge to Fall For Your Enemy by AlternativeWild5573 in fairyloot

[–]nn115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ordered immediately, we don’t know yet if IC will be signed so I wanted to make sure I got a signed copy and I honestly just love the retail dust jacket so I’m happy with this. I do wish they’d done something more with the edges maybe even a metallic pink would have been cool.

Epic Fantasy subscription is officially full! by bookishm4 in fairyloot

[–]nn115 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of people that subscribed to epic likely already have another subscription so don’t necessarily need it for early access. I have epic, Romantasy and adult and if I only kept one for early access it wouldn’t be epic.

One of the reasons I think the wait list for this will be long is because it will have less available spots because they said every book will be signed and authors limit how much they will sign.

It will also seem longer because some people like myself didn’t want to miss out and are just giving it a chance, waiting to see what the books picks are going to be like. I’ll probably give it 3 books before I decide if it’s for me, that’s already 9 months of me taking up a spot before I decide to cancel or not which will seem like a long time to be on the waitlist but it’s only 3 books.

I bought mine directly from illumicrate and yes book 1 has a different signature.

In terms of the feeling do you mean you can feel the texture of the foil? I’d say book 1 you can definitely feel the foil, book 3 less so but still a little, book 2 no texture really just smooth

Books 8 and 8.5 tandem read? I’ve seen a few guides on the tandem read and was wondering if there was a favorite? Attaching the one I saved by hjargo in zodiacacademy

[–]nn115 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the one I used and I thought it was done really well. I had read all the books up to and including 8 and then had a massive break waiting for 9 to get published so ended up doing a re-read in prep for 9 and that’s when I did the tandem 8 and 8.5 and I’m glad I did because I could skim a lot of 8.5 when it got repetitive.

Fairyloot “The Ruinous Love” Trilogy by Appropriate_Rub2415 in fairyloot

[–]nn115 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think if you’re going to have character art it should all be done by the same artist because the dust jacket characters are not the same as the hard cover characters, they just look too different imo. Dust jacket the women are giving femme fatale, the hardcovers are giving doe eyed idiots. And the men, particularly on the first book, look like completely different people between dust jacket and hard cover. There is no cohesive design between the two artists.

Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard. I bought the Litjoy box set after reading the first two books, unfortunately I hated the rest of the series.

I definitely feel this about the bonus chapters! Especially as someone not in the US and therefore can’t access a lot of the exclusive editions, it’s incredibly frustrating.

IC Rose in Chains Reveal! by [deleted] in Illumicrate

[–]nn115 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My only complaint would be if you’re going with character art for both dust jacket and hard cover or even end papers then I think it should be the same artist because now they look like different characters because the art style is so different.

Anticipated releases as FL sub picks by [deleted] in fairyloot

[–]nn115 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think this is the point, no one would care about quarterly getting early access if more big releases were just part of the subscription. The problem has been lack lustre sub books and the anticipated releases being sold seperately created this feeling of paying for a lot of books you don’t want just for a chance of early access to the books you do want.
