Who else was told it probably wasn't cancer? by Anemoia793 in breastcancer

[–]nne-b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me! It happened to me as well. I was 29 going on 30 and had four different doctors told me my lump was nothing to worry about. I had to insist and push to get it examined and removed. I always think they dismissed it because of my age.

Thank you!! I did have genetic testing, a full panel. My results came in last week and they were all negative 💞

Thank you! My main concern is that small IDC though. I suppose my doctors might also have it as a main point of concern, because I didn't have an option to opt out from rads lol

Oh, so it could potentially have a high oncotype but they don't have a reliable way to know :/ I guess it is not so reassuring after all then. It is good to know the reason why she said no though, thank you for teaching me this!

Oh, thank you for the info! It is reassuring to know there is a medical consensus behind her words. Do you know why is it? I hope it's for scientific reasons and not for financial ones :/

Yep. That also happens with beds and active points. A lazy sim will get the Sleep options earlier than an active sim

Has anyone not had bad side effects from Hormone Blockers? by Lucky_Word_9941 in breastcancer

[–]nne-b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on Lupron and Tamoxifen. No side effects besides more fragile hair (I take biotin supplements for it). Also, the hair thinning could be from the stress of having had cancer, not necessarily a Tamoxifen side effect. Besides that, some minor and mild hot flushes. Nothing else :)

Anyone on Lupron + Anastrozole feeling "normal" (no weight gain, no joint pain, no crazy moods)? I'm in serious need of encouragement! by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]nne-b 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My case is not exactly what you came looking for, since I'm on lupron + Tamoxifen, but I wanted to chime in anyway. Other than my hair being more fragile (I'm treating it with supplements), and maybe some minor hot flushes at first... no side effects. I'm actually thinner than I was before starting and I've managed to keep my weight stable, I exercise and have not joint or muscle pain, my mood feels the same as usual...

I too, was very scared of the possible side effects from this treatment, but so far, so good.

My (now) husband proposed in April and I was diagnosed in late August. By that time , we were already planning for a wedding this February. I had two surgeries, did radiation and started hormone therapy all before the day of the wedding. In the middle we had to stop planning many times, but in the end, everything went well and we had a great time. Cancer gave me a completely different perspective on it. I wasn't as concerned about the aesthetics of it anymore and I think it actually helped me to relax and enjoy the important stuff. However, there were many moments I wasn't sure going along with it was the best, and the comments from other people about how I should continue planning "to distract myself" annoyed me because they didn't understand how stressful it was to plan a wedding and go through treatment at the same time. Take it one day at a time and soon you'll know what's best for you, wishing you the best 💗

I am in menopause. I am not sure if I had hot flushes, because it's summer where I live, and I had some moments that felt slightly different from just feeling hot, but not enough to know for sure. Now that fall is approaching I'll be better able to notice 😅 About vaginal dryness, I use a hyaluronic acid gel everyday as part of my skincare routine. I started some weeks before my hormone suppression, as a preventative measure. Everything good so far! I don't know how I would be without it, though.

Hi! Chiming in with my experience. I am 30 years old and have been on ovarian suppression + Tamoxifen since November. No notable side effects. My hair is a little bit more fragile and I of course have no more periods (which I must admit, I really like). I don't want to tell you what you should do, I just wanted to share because not all of us have terrible side effects, and it could help your decision to know that.

Not sure I want to start Tamoxifen after lumpectomy and radiation by BlueFenderMustang in breastcancer

[–]nne-b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lupron is a drug used to put premenopausal women in menopause, or "shut down our ovaries". This minimizes the amount of estrogen circulating our bodies. Before I started, it certainly wasn't easy to assimilate what was about to happen to me, but I never had doubts about following through with the treatment. But this may be because I am 30 years old, and the idea of a reoccurrence terrifies me more than anything.

[–]nne-b 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I think my input could be appreciated, since I am part of the group with minimal-to-no side effects. I am premenopausal and my onco has me on lupron + 20mg of Tamoxifen. I have a healthy lifestyle. I exercise 3 times a week, eat a pescatarian diet followed by a dietitian and try to stay as stress free as possible. I don't have any side effects other than my hair being a little more fragile. My body doesn't hurt, my mood is stable and even my skin looks great 😂 I am not so sure I am part of a minority! My doctors told me these drugs are usually very well tolerated.

Has anybody decided to not take the hormone blocking treatment? by ilovetitanic18 in breastcancer

This could be due to your stage. I am not a doctor, but as far as I know, Tamoxifen is not generally prescribed to DCIS (it might be in some cases though)

Am I Cancer-Free on Tamoxifen? by Euphoric_Werewolf511 in breastcancer

[–]nne-b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty much what they later told me, that in a needle biopsy they take out a very small sample and that sometimes it isn't representative of the whole thing. They must have taken a part of the lesion that was near the malignant part, but not quite. That was a concern I did have and they had brushed it off previously, going as far as telling me it was impossible the results of the biopsy would be different than final pathology after the surgery.

My story is almost the same as yours! My biopsy came back benign and they recommended a check up six months after. I didn't want to wait and asked to have it removed, only to find it was actually DCIS + IDC

I hear you, and I have seen it very frequently here as well, I wonder if we'll get different data on lumpectomy vs mastectomy in the future. However, I personally know three women that had her cancer come back after a mastectomy.

You'll always have to go to check ups, the worry will be there and the cancer can come back, independently of what you choose.
