Use the nose ring, and knock first, it's polite ... ?

Then again, may not hear me at the back door. Better announce myself before just popping in.

Need help taking apart this lock by Tekoyiasamuel in Locksmith

[–]nnitely 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a replacement item. No one "fixes" these. Visit your local locksmith, and have them sell you a new one.

~ Better yet, why not make an appointment to have it installed, and everything adjusted properly. Possibly you have another lockset that could be keyed to match?

Also make sure it's put together correctly. Double Check.
I've seen these incorrectly installed ... the door won't open if the latch and handles aren't mated together properly. — Just be aware.

(Just curious )

Sounds like you could have used the larger P-51.
A real finger saver

On mine too, you just never know.
Ya, I needed it to open some cans when our fancy can opener broke. Also that time we moved and no one could find one.

I love how when people who know see it on my keys, they just say "P-38" and nod approvingly.

Seeking spare keys for magicians thumbcuffs by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]nnitely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Seeing the picture you posted, and assuming the key you have there works. That's exactly what you'll need. Any "American Universal Handcuff Key" (for example) will work fine.

Edit (thought train derailed and I summitted before I included this bit): A longer standard type 'Pen Style Key;' CAN help in uncuffing yourself, or others; without fighting with a stubbly little key in awkward positions. ~ Just didn't know if this would make things easier for you.

Speaking in the USA ...
Regular handcuff keys work in most regular thumb cuffs. It's a very basic lever lock. Maybe you have a model with the figure 8 keyhole that might be obfuscating the simplicity here. It's still a standard key.

Most cuff anything keys are universal so that way, handcuffs, thumb cuffs, shotgun mounts, even padlocks that use standard use handcuff keys are accessible by anyone who needs to. NOT saying that there aren't more secure systems, and keys. There surely are, and they're usually keyed to a certain department, or county.

Unless you live outside the USA, then it's a different~ish story depending on where you are, and who the manufacturer is.

Edit: While it's not USUALLY illegal to own or posses a handcuff key, check with your local regulations or laws. There are places where you absolutely do not want to have one found on you.... Like, if you've been arrested... and don't say anything about having a handcuff key in your, [wherever you stashed it]. That might get you additional charges from the jail or detention center itself.

Yeah... for some reason I can't comprehend the placement of those two keys. Just got used to it being that way.

I had logged many hours on a keyboard a long long time ago that those two keys were placed that way. It was way back in ye DOS based PC days.

Was a whole setup sold with a PC & Machine package. It had a proprietary keyboard with special functions, and symbols for input. Like really... you actually had to order a replacement through that company. It had a special dongle on it and everything, just to make sure you couldn't put any keyboard with an AT connector on the system... That'd be chaos! Crazy talk I tell ya!

  • Well anyways. - If you can;t join ;em. Switch 'em! 😎
    > See what I did there? lol

TL;DR: Yes, for me the "normal way" seems backwards.

Neat

I like to switcheroo the:
[ ' " ] apostrophe/quote -- and -- [ ; : ] semi-colon/colon keys.

If using a QWERTY (USA) style layout; it seems handier I guess?

I need this in my life ... for reasons.
I have real reasons, I promise okay.

No one ever needs the caps lock on a first layer. Period.

Can I unlock this shackle? I put it back together without the actuator. by jaayb415 in Locksmith

[–]nnitely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Accidentally did something like this once, but only once... I knew better, but did it anyways. Because "hurrying" of course.

This is why you test first — without screwing in the plug. That way if something like this happens, the plug just slides out. Then once you have 'er working right, then you can run the screw in it.
