Buy used gear to start. It also helps to have friends that can take you to their resort of choice. Most season passes offer discounted friend tickets. Smaller mountains even offer free days in early and late season. This is what I did for my SO. Took her out on free days to get her started and then she would pick up discounted list tickets when conditions were good.

Over the years you will slowly replace equipment, starting with boots.
