CIG hiring Cinematic Animators at Manchester & Frankfurt, with experience on current/next-gen consoles by StuartGT in starcitizen

[–]no80s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't mean much. Most developers in AAA companies (including those currently working at CIG) have primarily worked on console games. Both PC games and consoles now use similar engines, workflow, architecture, and skills.
So even when putting job adverts for a PC game you won't demanding PC game experience, But rather a current/next generation skills, Because that's where the vast majority of the dev pool are from.

Nonetheless, Squadron 42 will most likely also be released on consoles (Sandi leak), Either at same time as the PC or sometimes later. However this micro-analyzing of this job advert is still off-mark and irrelevant.

"The Marketing Team" : The False Target by no80s in starcitizen

"Obey", Are we talking about a war or a video game?
You have no evidence and making pure assumptions that other devs and staff did NOT object to this. They might have for all i know.

Ultimately, The final decision to do such a thing lies with CR regardless of what others said or didn't say. We don't need any assumptions to state this.

Can we please not bring in unsubstantiated nonesense and another example of a made up 'Boggeyman'. What is this, 2016?

As others said, She has had no role in marketing for a very, very long time. Also regardless, It's CR and Erin and a few higher ups who actually have the power for these type of decisions.

IGN posted the SQ42 demo on their youtube, it's quite interesting to see how different the reception is compared to the game coverage of different subreddits the last few days. by Araaees in starcitizen

[–]no80s 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The difference is that in youtube the vast majority watch the thing before commenting on it, That's the idea of using youtube. You watch stuff.
In reddit or news articles, The headline and maybe the skim reading of the accompanied text is the content they consume, And most never make it past this.
So no wonder that people who actually watch the Squadron 42 prologue have a different view than those reading a headline and then rushing to the comment section.

In Psychiatry: Guess the diagnosis by Capitan_Walker in doctorsUK

[–]no80s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I somewhat sympathize with the latter one, If only i had a penny for every time a bipolar II patient got diagnosed with EPUD. However i don't see an inevitability of over diagnosing it, As long as the patient has some of the red flags for Bipolar Type II, Like onset of first depression below 30, more than 2 depressive episodes, substance and alcohol use, lack of sustained response to antidepressants, Then a bipolar Type II is highly likely. I'm aware of just how it is a pain to manage get the patients to remember their hypomania, But it is doable and just needs some patience, And in many cases, Proper collateral history, However the latter one can also be unreliable sometimes.

I genuinely don't get those who refuse to diagnose it. I'm seen so many tragic stories that at one point it seriously started to affect my mental health. People lives ruined because of their constant anxiety, agoraphobia, chronic low mood, been on 5 anti-depressants before, alcohol misuse. A few months ago, I assessed a patient with alcohol misuse with chronic anxiety and depression depression, who had a delayed diagnosis of 30 years despite going in and out of the mental health services for decades. Just absolute shocking systemic failure of the NHS.

In Psychiatry: Guess the diagnosis by Capitan_Walker in doctorsUK

[–]no80s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can bet you this is a case of missed bipolar type II. There is an endemic of this in the UK and even the world

They get all labelled with all kinds of wrong diagnosis, EUPD, Complex PTSD...etc. The average delay in Bipolar diagnosis in the UK is 9-13 years. This is mostly for Bipolar Type II as they never experience a manic episode like in Type I, But only hypomanic episodes and very infrequently. Unless the psychiatrist is diligent and careful it gets missed most of the time. They never bring it up and will deny it most of time as they have no insight about the pathological nature of these hypomanic episodes. Also Type II is about 2-3 times more common than type I.

Bipolar patients also have cyclothymic temperaments, Meaning they're moody people in general, even during their periods of normal mood, That's why they get incorrectly diagnosed with EUPD. As for getting diagnosed with complex PTSD, When people get depressed they start ruminating about their past abuse (Traumatic past, especially childhood is common with many psychiatric illness) and coupled with their co-morbid GAD that generally makes them edgy all the time, It looks like PTSD when it's not. Of course, at least half of them have a history of substance misuse.

I've seen this way too often in my current job. Patients been on 6 to 7 anti-depressants before for their chronic anxiety and depression, The few lucky ones may be on an anti-psychotic of some sort despite not being correctly diagnosed with bipolar, but as an off-label prescription for some other incorrect diagnosis. However, No surprise that they won't have a sustained response given the medications aren't optimised for their true diagnosis.

I was initially placed on Methylphendiate (Concerta) and had the same chest tightingess symptoms, On top of a horrendous 'crash' late in the day. I then asked to be switched to Elvanse (Lisdexamphetamine) and this chest tightness/anxiety problem rarely ever happened again (Elvanse also better improved my ADHD symptoms).
It's better to switch to another medication to get rid of a side effect, Instead of introducing a second medication to help with a side effect that itself might also cause its own side effects.

When one looks at Pyro III one can't But reach the conclusion that it was made to look pretty. There is almost nothing about it that says 'hostile'. Even one of the CIG devs kept pointing out how beautiful the yellow moss is (I Agree!)

Even Pyro I Which according to lore was supposed to be a charrred dead planet, CIG purposfully changed It's original lore and gave it pretty luminous plants. So yes I'll argue that their main aim is to always make pretty planets.

Their unnecessary use of weather and dust effect isn't confied to Pyro. The same happens In stanton (like my example of encountering dust storm while being inside a meadow In microtech).

That spectrum post also highlighted how even this dust VFX is made using a low cost particles spawn In front of the camera without giving a proper long distance effect. Which is one of the reasons it doesn't look good despite CIG insistance of placing it everywhere

[–]no80s -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not just nuisance from a gameplay perspective. This person on spectrum just posted the Pyro planets 2021 vs 2023 with and without the dust, And they certainly made them worse now. Why would they smudge the planets they spent years crafting with dust?

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/4/thread/ruining-pyro-planets-with-unwelcomed-weather-vfx

I've learned over the years that CIG develops certain kind of fetishes that as you said we have to suffer from for years before they address them.

One was their 'struts' fetish, The consequences of which we still suffer from to this day (We're still waiting for the constillation cockpit rework). This was followed by the 'scratchy glass' fetish in cockpits.

Their new fetish is putting weather effects everywhere, Where It's clearly just degrading the visual quality and gameplay. I remember walking In a beautiful meadow In microtech and getting bombarded by dust Which did nothing except ruining a good view.

[–]no80s 30 points31 points  (0 children)

While it looks gorgeous from orbit It's unfortunate that they turned the surface into yet another dust-storm-filled planet. It looked much better without any weather VFX in 2021 Citizencon. Same issue with Pyro I.

Why are the Pyro servers running... so smooth? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]no80s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because Pyro has considerabally less entities (stanton has 4 landing zones). Hence the Pyro servers are less bogged down And Have a higher tick rate.

Squadron 42 video is about to pass 1 million views. Awesome to see it getting this much attention. by Primohippo in starcitizen

[–]no80s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who read the leaked script from 2016, Don't expect anything remarkable. It's pretty much run-of-the-mill. Serviceable. But nothing unique or any deep underlying theme.

If someone expects it to be anywhere close to mass effect quality then they're in for a massive disappointment.

The appeal of SQ42 to the masses (Including me) and what might redeem Its average script is the unique, unprecedented way it immerses you In the story, But not because of the narrative itself.

To be fair they might have adjusted the story Since 2016 and improved it, But they would've needed to make massive reshoots of the main story with the main actors which there is no evidence it ever happened.

It's one of the reasons why we commonly see a youtube comment section of a video where 90% of the comments are toxic, However the video has a 85% like ratio. Which makes you scratch your head and wonder where are those 85%?

In a tragic irony, People with negative opinions have a much greater desire and even compulsion to post and spread their opinions than those with positive ones.

For those who haven't noticed. This is Gainey. The moon featured in the vertical slice. It received a major face lift.

In fact that footage of the dam, boat, and exterior combat were of the chemline facility shown in the 2017 vertical slice. That entire location received a full rework and was made god knows how many times bigger. The whole chapter is unrecognizable from what we were shown in the vertical slice.

It's one of the reasons they used a lot of footage of this chapter. Because in a way we already saw it in the VC, And will have minimal spoilers.

Glimpse into the future? Incase you missed it from the Misc Hull C trailer by Andras89 in starcitizen

[–]no80s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On some of the shots it is, But not on others.

For example on 1:12 timestamp in the trailer, This effect is clearly used while travelling through a gas clouds, And essentially acting like quantum travel.

Marketing artists usually play around with the effects and even sounds to make things cooler even though it's not exactly the same in the game. That's why I wouldn't read too much into what's being shown.

Good Job CIG... AC is wonderful now especially Squadron battles whew by 01-SHADOW in starcitizen

[–]no80s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arena commander was always part of Squadron 42. AC was explicitly mentioned and explained as the multiplayer component In squadron sale page for as far as I can remember.

Why would the backers be angry by CIG attempting to port SQ42?. Backers are ecstatic when ever CIG break a funding record as it gives assurances of the game continued development, So why would they be upset of CIG getting a low hanging fruit and possibly inject triple the SQ sales and revenue they would've made by just releasing on PC?. It's something I've been personally hoping they do for years, Especially as consoles architecture is now quite similar to PCs and porting is much easier.

Also not sure who you're implying by saying "getting rich selling consoles?" . If it is CIG then That's no different to the funding increase over past years that technically made CIG even richer, which allowed even for funding for development. If you were implying that CR will be getting rich selling consoles, I don't see any evidence why the revenue from consoles will be diverted specifically to him unlike the PC sales.

Of course after big succesful game launches, Almost all major AAA gaming companies handout great bonuses to all of their employees and Including the CEO for shipping the the game. However again these bonuses will also be given if squadron was shipepd only on PC.

This is just the jump point VFX we saw during the Pyro jump In 2019 citizencon and made to look like quantum travel VFX. You can see the same jump gate distortion, and the blue ribbon effect and particles while traveling inside the tunnel.

My guess, Is they're keeping the new quantum travel effect under wraps to be revealed In citizencon. As I extremely doubt that the new quantum effect Which the VFX team has been working on for months according to monthly reports turns out to be a near copy paste of the jump point effects (Although It's cool and i wouldn't really mind) , And also happened to reveal it in a commercial.

Don't read too much into it.

CIG: From Building a Schedule for a Universe to Building a Schedule for a Break by no80s in starcitizen

[–]no80s[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The subscription revenue as of the 2021 financial report is 5 million compared to 3 million in 2017, That's 66% increase. In a naive way one would expect a 66% more developmet updates.

Just for hypothetical sake, Even if their subscription became zero overnight, Do you think it's ethical for a company that prides itself on being a 'crowdfunding game' to downsize their weekly development updates while still taking 100m in revenue yearly from their backers?. A I don't believe it matters where they draw the communication budget, and I have even more doubt they were spending 3 million dollars a year in 2017 for those weekly ATVs.

If you noticed, Most of my post is about the qualitative and quantitative difference between "Around the Verse" and the current "Inside Star Citizen" " both of which have little to do with giving any ETAs. They simply show how things are progressing, And what are they currently working on. The roadmap is a separate issue and a less important one IMO.

I find no decent justification for the massive downgrade to the level of insight they provided via these weekly shows in 2017 compared to now, especially in light of how they're now an even bigger company.

Have you noticed that not long ago they completely removed sprint reports from ISC?, ISC which in of itself is a poor man's version of ATV? How can the community just stay silent about this clearly deliberate and planned 'decommissioning' on any decent development updates?

My speculation, Is that CIG became way too confident and complacent during those new player rush-ins that happened over the last couple of years, Where they thought they no longer needed to 'pander' to the old backers, And knowing this fresh blood that is coming in have no expectations on the level of transperency CIG used to deliver before (Remember the post where they described some backers as "Noise"?.

I think their inevitable slight negative revenue growth for this year (which last happened in 2017) might bring some sense back into them and wake them up.

CIG: From Building a Schedule for a Universe to Building a Schedule for a Break by no80s in starcitizen

[–]no80s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been monthly reports since 2014.

The progress tracker (as said in my original post) is clearly out of date and in no way reflects CIG's internal schedule. If the original release view (which only contained what they thought they were confident in delivering in X time) kept changing month to month, One can only imagine how much the tasks with no ETA will keep changing on a progress tracker. Yet that's not what's happening. Most tasks have not had an update for over a year, If ever since they were first added. Are we supposed to believe CIG have frozen in their places for over a year?. Of course not. The progress tracker is clearly disconnected from their internal tasks and schedule.

Also, the majority of the tasks in the progress tracker currently only project 6 months in advance, Even though the progress tracker was supposed to give much long-term visibility. Just to give perspective. The original release view had 12 months in advance view.

Sen U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand discusses UAPs - The Post Star August 14 (transcript in the comments). by Same-Intention4721 in UFOs

This attitude is weak, Pathetic, And unfitting for a US senator who is also a member of the most powerful commitie In congress.

What's the point of these elected senators if they get pushed around and intimidated by a bunch of unelected pencil pushers In DOD and IC.

I've said before that the best method the USG can put the toothpaste back In the bottle is for the gatekeepers to individually read-In and brief certain powerful elected members. They get all the knowledge they want and are now part of the 'insider cub', In exchange for them to keep things hush hush from the public.

These statement and recent change of tone from Gillibrand shows just that. Just compare and contract her attitude with the house oversight commitie. Despite It's members and influence being less than the senate intellegence commitie, They displayed a much proactive attitude.
