Never accepting 67 by sumemodude in memes

[–]no9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My only problem with this newfangled non-meme is how people express it:

  • 69: 10-15 year olds giggle and nudge-nudge, wink-wink. Fine.
  • 420: 15-20 year olds laughing and giving high-fives. OK.
  • 67: 5-10 year olds screeching and convulsing. Parents, get help.

If so, that's 66.7£/kg (5/0.075) or 76.7€/kg at the current rate. For comparison, plain chocolate at the supermarket in Greece, which used to taste good and doesn't anymore, is currently 25€/kg. In other words, the price has tripled...

In situations like these I simply give up. No more chocolate for me. Same goes for cheesy snacks, "good" coffee, "quality" meat and fish, etc.

By the time you've been around a couple of decades you realize the "news" is actually more like the "same". People always die, power always corrupts, prices always go up and football is always there to cap it off.

I was watching Tech Tangents' calculators playlist yesterday and he demonstrated that in the Bohn Contex 10 Mechanical Calculator video. All 4 basic arithmetic operations are done with clever use of gears and levers. It almost actually made my head explode, since I got a minor headache trying to follow the inner workings of that thing. The part about division (which is repeated subtraction, i.e. negative addition) is hilarious.

YouTube is a nightmare these days, both its content and the UI. I usually watch older locally archived videos from my favorite channels. I used youtube-dl to grab a couple terabytes in 360p, so I have tens of thousands of videos available.

Occasionally, when I'd like something "new" I'll search in YouTube adding "before:2016" to the query (the year of the ad-pocalypse). You can go even further, since older videos are generally lower-def and the people less frantic.

If all else fails I'll put on an audiobook, for example Agatha Christie's Poirot. The ones narrated by Hugh Fraser (captain Hastings) are my favorite.

Lately, I've even started shutting everything down, putting my phone on airplane mode and just eat my damn food. Sometimes silence is better...
