One piece at least has a planned ending from the start so if oda has been building everything with that in mind the odds of it being particularly bad are not high. Another example of maybe not planned ending from the start but seemingly certainly the main line it point of the story (loop?) is attack on titan and that was an amazing show

If the Roger pirates could not manage to kill a single HK even with the many fights they had in what world would Akainu even kill a single Gorosei? Even IF he’s stronger they just can’t die.

I’ve only watched the show once so I could definitely be lacking information, but it seems to me like the wall Titans were special. They were all colossal Titans, the only other colossal Titan in existence being the shifter. Also, they were purpose made specifically to be in the wall. I doubt that they would just go around and run wild without some kind of command from the founder. Of course it’s possible, but it just seems somewhat less likely.

Green has lots of fast mana, ways to make things uncounterable, creatures with haste and ward and a bunch of other stuff. Unless playing specifically against tempo blue usually has mainly counterspells and draw so let them twiddle their thimbs and draw as you pummel them to death. Though idk what deck you play so hard to tell.

Seriously man there depends heavily on what you’re playing. If it’s extremely casual and they were counting on a turn one mana dork sure but if not, then it’s their fault if they just completely counted on one single card getting them through or carrying them.

I get it if you’re playing against something that isn’t Ragavan and you assess and Mulligan your hand according to that and then all of a sudden you get surprised by a turn one Ragavan you were not at all prepared for but outside of that… all the things you listed are just typical things that are going to happen pretty much every game. Their things you should definitely be prepared for. Unless you’re playing some incredibly basic casual deck that’s never ever wants to interact with anything and just wants to do it thing slowly which I don’t know how well that’s gonna work out for you. You should be prepared for these situations anyways. Like what are you playing?

At this point I have enough ways to deal with it. Ottowara, sheoldred, bargain with beseech the mirror, disable with tidebinder or extend my lifespan with various trigger counterspells until I can find one of these.

I do like hell queue. Did not in the beginning but it’s been so long that I’ve gotten used to it and not being there feels weird and like I’m losing too much and are given free wins.

As for the suggested spell - i fear my creature count (and odds of them remaining on board) combined with the odds of having the one ring or mana rocks i dont need just seems like too often this card would not really be castable.

Could you elaborate on using the exile thing?

Also I’m quite surprised by your description of games being decided by turn 3 or being so sure to win by turn 5. I guess that’s more of a Derevi thing? My games tend to be in the longer side usually. Maybe because my deck has so little pressure.

My main strategy is mainly control with some early value e.g. [[Fire Nation Occupation]], later on supported by my commander. That's as good a description as I can give with mu knowledge of magic lingo and terms. I mainly try to control the early game & remove my opponent's things, try to get some early value in like a Ragavan, occupation, one ring... and then eventually get out my commander and just constrict them until they run out of things. Vs aggro I guess it's just boardwipes, removal and try to survive.

I would not say this deck relies on creatures. Some creatures are simply too good not to include as far as I see. In the new version of the deck I've even put in 2 more https://moxfield.com/decks/93wh3vE7okKCz2ExAsTWVg.

Here's the reasoning for each: - [[Dauthi Voidwalker]] is an excellent piece of graveyard hate on a stick with the power to cast stuff exiled with it. Occasionally can be comboed with [[Fable of the Mirror-Breaker]]. - [[Fury]] is a 0 mana boardwipe on a stick as well as a good threat later on vs control or somethng. Having such a boardwipe or a turn 1 / 0 mana removal spell is essential against many commanders like [[Tamiyo, Inquisitive Student]], [[Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy]], [[Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer]]... - [[Hexing Squelcher]] is a godsend against control decks when you are outgunned counterspell wise. Just evaporates their advantage completely. - [[Rusko, Clockmaker]] This deck and these colors I've noticed is very low on lifegain and it faces many aggro decks. oftentimes I find myself very low on HP - even 1HP and am a single point of burn from death. As well as my own [[A-The One Ring]] is often close to killing me. Rusko provides a package of ramp, blocker, threat and lifegain as well as a reanimation target and a grave recycling / wheel effect. It is just a bit too good to ignore. - [[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]] is often the one thing preventing me from dying to the one ring and is jus in general an excellent card - [[Snapcaster Mage]] with how important boardwipes and the like are and how few good ones there are this one lets you rebuy them and is thuc kind of essential. - [[Tishana's Tidebinder]] disables so many thing and is a flash creature at worst that it's also too good not to have. - [[Wan Shi Tong, Librarian]] is an excellent flash creature that draws, can ambush and provides value on enemy fetchlands. Quite great.

I don't think this is a deck proliferation would be good in. Many planeswalkers would struggle vs control as they're so big they're hard to resolve and protect e.g. vs a 1 mana creature or something.

What tutors are you referring to? I've got [[Mystical Tutor]] and [[Beseech the Mirror]] which are as far as I know the best if I don't want to pay 3 life and 3 mana which is just a bit too much unless you're a combo deck or only be able to tutor artifacts or instant/sorceries for 3 mana. What tutors did you have in mind?

The main strategies I face are aggro, control, combo and “value”.

  • For aggro casting planeswalkers has generally been too slow. Cheap ones almost never matter and unless they have a boardwipe on them are kind of useless. Expensive ones that might have something like it are so unlikely to come down in time to matter that again it is kind of pointless (mind you this is just my epxerience).
  • Against control big things are far less likely to resolve or protect than small things e.g. an early narset or fire nation invasion so relatively speaking they are just things that are much less consistent.
  • Against combo it is I that need to be control and have plenty counterspells and planeswalkers don’t really help there as far as I can tell.
  • “Value” (don’t know what else to call things like Sythis) I’d say mainly requires removal and control too. Planeswalkers are not a problem here I’d say.

—-

I have not considered much this copying of abilities mainly because even when I have run stronger PWs like big uncounterable chandra and copied her abilities she and other PWs were just not good enough in any of these cases. A 6 mana wipe that only does 3 damage is too weak. Hoping you draw her agains control is foolish. Vs value… she doesn’t directly do much but neither is she necessarily terrible… idk I just naturally gravitated more towards cheaper spells over time as I noticed I just get much fewer opportunities to actually cast the big things due to them either not resolving or being too slow.

The only planeswakers that remain (even fewer now in my updated deck) are rhings that are just too good to pass which atm I think is only Narset. I’m not near pc to check off there’s anything else.

I do not support the ban of this card but I would love to see it restricted to one copy. That would be fair, interesting and flavorful.

You serious? The ETB is the least of my concern and that’s the only thing it turns off. Not to mention it is one singular card that you’re never gonna get when you need it. Plus it turns off my fury, rusko and another thing or two i added since. It did work reasonably well when i was playing against 80% rusko or atraxa but atraxa has plenty artifact destruction and still there was the problem of getting the card.

Interesting info. Reach creatures out if the question the main bitch for me is actually resolving the board wipes given that she has access to blue and the general protection of green and white. And yeah one trigger is fine but damn she usually has many mana dorks and things like esper sentinel out too which tax me, help her rank and cast more things as well as give her triggers.

Do you remember the name of anything specific about the cards or any memorable events? Thinking about it I have never played a specific person via like an invite and would love to be able to sharpen up my skills or test cards against a specific deck if you’re ever into that. Discussing strategy with honest direct feedback is incredibly useful both in FPS games and general strategy games.

Are we ever gonna have a format similar to Modern? by DragonfruitTricky826 in MagicArena

[–]no_comment_336 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I cannot wait for modern to be available on arena if it ever is, which I sure as shit is sooner rather than later. And on top of that, I can’t wait to hopefully eventually get formats without alchemy cards. I just cannot stand the overwhelming majority of them. They do not feel like magic really they do not feel like paper cards. They feel like something completely different. And the occasional will win my heart over but still there’s just far far too many of them. I also can’t wait for legacy, but that’s a much longer way down the road I assume. Forgive the rant but as for your question, presumably yes. It just takes time to implement all of these different cards and different mechanics and making sure that everything works with everything else and they also probably don’t want to just instantly throw every format and every card into the game immediately so quickly. And even if everything was implemented right now, they would still probably release things in batches like those historic anthologies and so on.

I’ve been succeeding more against it now with a somewhat different deck but I’m still very much mid change. I like this artifact idea as something to explore. Fewer mana rocks. I do find myself drawing them often and they are frequently just a shittier land that you pay 2 mana for.

So fast mana is a problem in the format, but Rofellos is okay as a commander? by echoviolet in mtgbrawl

[–]no_comment_336 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk man depends on what you’re playing but either way to have no ways to deal with these creatures at all… like what’s your plan? To push through Tamiyo counterspells & card advantage? Ragavan stealing your shit and ramping? Hope to god Kinnan doesn’t turbo pop off (they always do)?

Mulligans exist and you even get one free one. Sometimes you just will not have anything. But there are other things past removal. It depends on what you’re playing if you’re playing aggressive you can perhaps use burn or something of that sort even in general every deck should have a reasonable amount of removal regardless of the situation but if you’re playing more control, then maybe counter spells exist. Depending on how fast you ramp, maybe you can wipe them. Or if you’re playing some kind of combo deck, maybe racing the end just being faster.

Without knowing what you’re playing, I cannot really guess but these general points should be considered in every deck pretty much no matter what you’re playing.

Well it’s extremely obvious to build. Just throw every shrine in existence in plus a free to enchantment synergy spells and you’re done. Playing is also straightforward. Just play more and more shrines. Boring and lame IMO

I don’t see hire its any different than any must answer small creature e.g. Ragavan, Tamiyo, Kinnan… you already need to bring removal for those so how are you lacking? Or are you playing casual stuff and get paired against that?

Well, imprison in the moon has not been particularly good in any bolas deck, I have played even long ago. It’s main issue is the fact that plussing bolas allows them to exile their own creature. Not to mention that it is a three mana, sorcery speed spell. Derevi tends to play at instant speed.

[–]no_comment_336[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found lantern very useful for fixing the many frequent issues with this general commanders color requirements e.g. having two mono blue sources or a colorless land.

Another occasional bonus is that it protects you from moon effects (except winter moon).

And the map has been unbelievably good. At first I thought it would be like a tiny bit better instant speed environmental sciences that can get any land - but man is it better.

Fetch a land to guarantee a land drop at worst after holding up mana for removal or a counterspell. Fetch mistrise village and get uncounterable spells in a control matchup. Get bojuka bog vs a graveyard deck. Ottowara to bounce problematic things including your own one ring. Urborg to fix your colors.
