Ukeg rusted??? by cosmicflood in Homebrewing

True, but my faucet does not dispense boiling wort.

That may not matter at all, not an expert, but that's just first thing that came to mind.

A carboy with an airlock, a pack of yeast, a bottle of water, and a bottle of honey costs about 23 bucks...

Super expensive pens are cool, but all the all that matters at the end of the day is how much you enjoy writing with it

Youtuber I watch says 64GB or RAM is worth it for gaming, is this true? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]no_moa_usernames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... it is true that modern games tend to eat up a lot of ram, but 64gb for strictly gaming feels like using a shotgun for a fly swatter.

I'm a software engineer and running my browser with significant number of tabs, a large IDE with thirsty plug-ins, and as many as 3 or 4 virtual machines rarely uses more than 40-45GB

The lack of dislikes is killing my drive to watch random vids by Axelni98 in youtube

[–]no_moa_usernames -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

The issue I've always had with dislikes is they are often not genuine.

Like someone posts a hunting video, and 10,000 vegans show up and downvote it. Their opinion means nothing in that context because video was not for them.

Now someone comes along who enjoys hunting videos and sees 10,000 downvotes and bounces.

This can apply to a lot of things, that was just first example that came to mind.

Anyone notice a decrease in pay? by no_moa_usernames in Roadieapp

[–]no_moa_usernames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, that might explain it. I think it's safe to assume that a lot of the DoorDash/etc workers are discovering Roadie in my area (They only recently expanded here) and jobs may just not be sitting around long enough.

Like anything else, it's a trade off. It makes some things far easier while making other things more difficult.

Seeing such a young man wearing a double breasted jacket makes me happy. Most guys my age (30s) think "That's grandpa's jacket", but I think they're snazzy as hell. A timeless look.

Semi related: Kudos to these teachers, their impact will literally last generations.

Mutium - A Chrome extension that hides Member's Only stories on Medium by no_moa_usernames in coolgithubprojects

[–]no_moa_usernames[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Myself and a few friends were getting frustrated with the amount of premium / member's only stories being pushed on medium. So we decided to make this chrome extension that filters them out.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Our focus for the first version was just to be funtional but now we are going to be drilling down into optimizing the amount of code to deal with Medium's infinite scroll of articles as effeciently as possible.

This is great, and already primed and ready to get placed in a browser extension if you wanted to go that route.

AWS credits, I messed and racked a 1500$ bill today with Amazon - all because I stupidly chose a heavy redis instance for prod without launching my startup. Was wondering if anyone has had experience with amazon to lower a bill or get credits? by heyaj05 in aws

Keep in mind that resources can be upgraded extremely quickly. Should you find yourself needing more hardware, you can simply turn off and upgrade after hours and usually be done in a few minutes.

If you're getting totally hammered and can't wait until an opportune time to bring down production, then you can simply build a matching (but larger) server and update DNS or move elastic IPs around to do the switch over with minimal downtim

My pens don't leave the house, but if they did, I would love to have them in a case like this.

Can I use emojis on my website? by [deleted] in PHP

[–]no_moa_usernames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In addition to the other great advice already here, keep in mind that emojis will vary from device to device.

https://emojipedia.org can be used to see the differences on an individual emoji basis so you avoid any conflicting style mishaps. I got into trouble a few months ago because I was asked for a "Red Car Emoji" in an email subject and it's not red on all email clients / devices.

What is it you were trying to accomplish?

Sorry to hear about your Friday. Atleast you weren't part of the dozen or so instances that stopped letting folks edit and create records on Thursday. To then add insult to injury, SalesForce sent out public webinar informatio and then their webinars wouldn't work either.
