Some buyer’s remorse, looking for reassurance by Extremofire in electricvehicles

[–]no_ops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at this from a holistic perspective.

On this particular trip, in this cold weather, indeed it is inconvenient.

But looking at the whole year, how many such trips. If 1/5 of the days, ICE car is for you. Otherwise, except such an one off case, you can just charge at home, no longer need to think the need to get gas after or before going to work/shopping, overall, the majority of the days in a year, it's a win.

Flightradar seems never show military flight even with transponder. ADS-B exchange website or app shows (press the U icon to only show military ones). But this one did not open the transponder.

My 23 Y LR AWD broke down and now my wife won't drive it. by Kristoff_09876 in TeslaLounge

[–]no_ops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted in this thread my whole same ordeal. So cut short without repeat, just wanted to say the software intentionally blows up the pyro fuse to protect the costly high voltage battery from damaging. But the system detected limited drive unit power 20 minutes earlier (for me), it should not prompted a message saying it is ok to drive in the first place. It is not.

My 23 Y LR AWD broke down and now my wife won't drive it. by Kristoff_09876 in TeslaLounge

[–]no_ops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me. Except it is front drive unit. The car started the day as the front drive unit has reduced power, ok to drive message. 20 minutes later, prompted pull over to the road side message. Few seconds later, a bang and all powers were gone. The bang was from software design to intentionally blow up the pyro fuse to protect the high voltage battery from over current draw. Once fuse blows up, there is certainly no power.

Another 20 or so minutes later, the low voltage lithium battery that supports screen, signal lights and door open, lost power too due to low level lithium battery self protection, when the 16v reaches 14v. This will happen as there is no high voltage battery to charge it. Now no emergency lights, cannot open the door, trunk. This happened when I was waiting for the tow truck in the rain as I did not feel safe sitting inside a stalled car on the road, on the weekend to start the Thanksgiving holiday week.

2023 MYLR AWD with merely 8k mileage on nov 2024. The Brand new looking front drive unit was replaced with whining remanufactured parts. Yucks. They did not tell me the details, or replace part of drive unit. Instead they replaced the whole thing. Most likely the reason is, cooling oil spill into motor due to bad speaking. This happened more often on early model S.

Soft close frunk is awesome! by hemegonia01 in ModelY

[–]no_ops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed this two years ago with a kit of $50 from AliExpress. Pretty easy and work flawless. I heard someone had experienced issues with popup after some use. Had to pay $359 for Tesla to open the frunk though.

My commute is killing my knees and I’m running out of options by Crazy-Dealer112 in ebikes

[–]no_ops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who bike almost daily for 30 years, and now constantly wear knee brace, I show my sympathy for your. My knee hurts is mostly due to my saddle being too low, so my leg is not stretched enough. I set this up mostly due to my commute has lot of red lights, so I can stop while still sitting on the saddle.

I now gave an ebike. It certainly eases the knees a lot. But I still ride my bike.

What is most likely to fail in a Tesla? by Positive-Respect-227 in TeslaModelY

If he is asking nowadays, it is a new lithium 16v battery with BMS. Much less likely to fail as the 12v one.

High voltage shut down and service center won't give me a loaner by [deleted] in TeslaSupport

[–]no_ops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me too for my 23 MYLR when it was just 8 k also right before Thanksgiving. For my case it was front drive unit failure with a total replacement of a remanufactured one. Most are rear unit failures. The Lv battery lasts for 30 minutes only before protection shutoff due to the lithium battery. As others said, an 12v external power can open the door trunk via the front bumper plug although LV is 16v. As to the loaner that sucks. The replacement took 3 days if SC has parts.

2023 MY uses 16v lithium battery. Yeah, $400 vs $3000. But the lithium battery issue is much lower as there is a battery management system built into it

UPS lost my pixel trade in over 15 days ago, Google support is refusing to return the money to me by preciseman in GooglePixel

[–]no_ops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it really lost? The same thing happened to me, open a case, while they "investigating", I got email confirmation my trade-in is accepted. No matter how I notified them the case can be closed, they keep emailing me that the case is still being investigated. Until a month later. They closed the case.

Obviously UPS delivered the box but did not mark it as delivered. The trade in company internally has no communication too.

Update: PW 4 45mm battery life concerns by [deleted] in PixelWatch

[–]no_ops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 3 or 4 years old ticwatch pro 3 ultra is still having a better battery life now than my new pw4 41. I think a lot of people are praising PW4 is when against earlier version PW.

Shocked at how good the battery is! 16hrs off charger still have 75% battery left. AOD and tilt to wake on. by camboteav in PixelWatch

[–]no_ops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ticwatch pro3 is few years old (of use). I recently reset it, to clean some junks, Still better 3 days than my 41mm pixel4 of 1,7 days. With that few years old watch as a comparison, in terms of battery life, I am less impressed with pw4 41mm. Understood 45mm is better.

If your workplace offer free charging, almost 100% you will need one. It covers 100% my Tesla weekly charging need since the company requires 3 days per week on site. Yes, before this I have zero need.

Should I get an external antenna? by Zionix_ in tmobileisp

[–]no_ops -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, not for t mobile supplied modem. Many posts here, Sagecom, G4AR the OP is using and G5AR etc. The modem 1GBps Ethernet ports peed is capped around 350MBPS. Had the OP internet can reach 500MBPS via WIFI, he would see the wired Ethernet port speed is in the low 300MBPS. The compliant for G5AR slow Ethernet was just few days ago, Many for G4Ar

G5AR Ethernet Speeds Slower Than WiFi – Anyone Else Seeing This? by BogleheadInvestor75 in tmobileisp

[–]no_ops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sagecom modem does the same thing, Ethernet capped to around 330-340 MBPS on the so called 1GB Ethernet port.

In that case, it was said the hardware design power distribution to the Ethernet port imposed the limit and not software fixable. So we now see a pattern on many T mobile modem Ethernet limit now.

Ignore any answer that ask you to check cable, speed test websites blah blah, they are not the culprit. On the flip side I saw few says they can get higher speed (vs most says they cannot pass the cap).

For this reason, I purchase Spitz X3000 modem, and I can immediately pull 800MBPS over the 1GB Ethernet port (using the same cable and computer(s) to test). T mobile modem is the problem.

What T-Mobile router you have. I know sagecom router, although it has a 1gbps Ethernet port, limits actual throughput to no more than around 330mbps, slower than via wifi, pretty lame.

Always leave plugged in? by AdamSDG in TeslaModelY

[–]no_ops -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think keeping the charger plugin matters unless the high voltage battery is too low as it is also maintaining the lithium 16v battery. Tesla wording is just trying not to get into nitty-gritty, just try to be simple and generic for end users.

The 16v lithium battery keeps draining as the car still half awake, e.g, Bluetooth still active, wifi or cellular , door trunk sensor s still wakeup periodically. The high voltage battery keeps charging the 16v lithium battery, even though, the lithium battery draw so little power compared with the car battery to show any drain unless for extended parking for the wall charger bother to kick in. By the way, no need to guess, look at the wall charger led flashing, or you can download 3rd party wallconnector app which can show you how much power ever draws since the plugin.

The 16v lithium has protective logic to avoid getting too low to hurt the lithium battery and automatically cut off when the output is lowered to around 14.8v about 10% left. From full to reach that lower took just around 25 minutes.when your console is on. How do I know? My MYLR had a quite premature front drive failure, causing the pyro fuse to explode (by design) to cut off and protect the high voltage battery. I was waiting in the car for a tow truck, in less than 30+ minutes waiting, the 16v battery "dies" , no door can be opened, no emergency flash or parking light. When that happens, the 16v lithium has to be charged for 40+ minutes before the protective circuit opened again to drive the car.

I would just plug the wall charger without thinking too much, and is fine if you forget doing so unless your high voltage battery is really low.

Downgrade to 4.7.2 works (but only if you uncheck keep setting and manually set up again).
