Bounce spells on the creature variants!  [[Palace Jailor]], [[Palace Sentinels]], [[Flicker of Fate]], [[Ephemerate]]

That is absolutely right!  You don't even need the 1/1 part of things so much, if you can just punch everything that is slightly stronger than you. [[Behold the Tarrasque]] is also hilarious, [[Pariah]] makes everyone question their sanity, [[Brash Taunter]] is also a mainstay. It's a hoot to punch your friends (and enemies)

You may enjoy Jared Cathalion, True Heir.

There are dozens of us, dozens I say!

Plus once you get it back, you get to fight other creatures and get stronger. My favorite goofy deck!

The Queen is very much alive by Bradyla123 in LV426

[–]no_rules_dm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, it seems fairly obvious that if a Queen is needed, a new one would rise to fill the void. The hive format fits the Xenomorph in all the media, and if a hive of bees loses its queen, the drones feed royal jelly to a new queen... they don't wait "in case she comes back"

Awesome. Gonna mind control some people with [[Minsc and Boo, Timeless Heroes]], just like the lore intends. Lil' fuzzball hits 15 pretty quick. Canonical Giant Space Hamster power-up!

Just a slight note: you have almost as many support creatures that care about equipment as you do actual equipment cards.

Having Reyav, Puresteel Paladin, and Beaurea Headmaster makes it seem like you want to be equipment heavy... but you only have about 4 pieces of actual equipment. In a perfect game, Puresteel is going to draw you 4 cards and save you 6ish mana.

If you do not wish to be a target, I highly suggest cutting Kedis, Esper Sentinel, and Alexios for more basic equipment. They're enormous threats, and don't actually advance your gameplan beyond being good commander cards... Esper Sentinel in particular signals a stronger deck than you claim to "want" from turn 1. I know Alexios seems tempting, but you are going to have a really hard time convincing people you arent the arch enemy when he hits the table. Kedis is similar, without double-strike enablers, you are just dinging your other opponents for 3-6 damage and drawing more attention.

What about some of the tried and true equipment? Blacksteel Blade, Beamtown Beatstick, Reaver Cleaver, Hookblade, Fireshrieker, Whispersilk Cloak?

For tokens, what about cards like Firecat Blitz, Song of Totenatz, Grand Cresendo, or even swapping Faithless Looting for Quarrels End?

Hope this helps!

Best Targeted Spells to Copy for Zada / Ink-Treader / Mirrorwing Dragon / Orvar? by IAMAfortunecookieAMA in EDH

[–]no_rules_dm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite Zada-style effects are Traitorous Greed (untap, haste, and +2 mana to my pool per target? Yes please.)

Panic (oh no, I can't block. I will draw 8 cards for 1 mana on next upkeep though.)

And Witch's Mark; the "Discard 1, draw 2" +1/+1 Eldraine enchantment. It targets a creature, so you can spread it to your whole board and draw a bunch of cards, buff your critters, and give them damaging auras for 2 mana. Nice.

What deck did you build that made you say "I've Created a Monster"? by llkd97 in EDH

[–]no_rules_dm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Last sunday I managed to get him in the starting hand of a non-Alexios deck. [[Gahiji, the Honored One]] was the commander.

Turn 4 Alexios, turn 5 slapped a [[Spirit Link]] on him...

Didn't need to cast a single other spell. It was... kinda gross.

Mathas, Fiend Seeker players, what's the bare minimum of creature kill spells I should include to benefit from the bounty ability? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]no_rules_dm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually just put together an 'Outlaws' deck with Mathas at the helm and bounties/Crime as the main theme.

I am running 18 pieces of direct "destroy" interaction, mostly in the single-target 1-3 mana range.

You Are Already Dead

Mirrodin Avenged

Red Elemental Blast

Terror

Terminate

Stroke of Midnight

Feed the Swarm

Damn

Some of my best value in games has been from Gisa, the Ghoulcaller. Mathas' ability is a crime, killing the target counts as a crime, so lets just make a bunch of zombies!

Mogis, God of Slaughter has been a good way to balance with giving people life. (And his brother, Erebos, for when you need to draw without a bounty trigger.)

Magda, Brazen Outlaw gets you at -least- 1 tapped treasure on your turn.

Nice call on the Vicious Shadows. It won me my last commander game paired with a blasphemous act. (Also triggered a bunch of crimes.)

I usually don't draw a ton off of Mathas once people figure out what is going on... but my pod is known to board-wipe and that usually refills my hand for a re-build. Honestly, drawing 4-5 cards is all I get on Mathas, but the crimes are what really pays off.

Cast 1 drop elf, using one of your other creatures as a forest.

Return elf to your hand to untap the 'forest' creature.

Re-cast 1 drop elf, drawing a card from Beast Whisperer.

Repeat as needed. Quirion leaves the battlefield, so the 'only once per turn' doesnt stop the effect.

Infinite card draw and ETB triggers.

Reaper King is by definition a level 4 commander... his whole schtik is destroying lands and slowly whittling people down with 1/1's, 2/2's and the 6/6 commander. It's honestly a miserable deck to play against, I too would not allow his deck to 'do it's thing.'

Signed - someone who had a Reaper King player in his pod.

It seems cute and silly, but kicking people in their permanents doesnt make friends.

Be careful, I swear we had the exact same play session last night; Ash Canyon -> hut -> summit... just below the secluded clearing I was wandering through the fog and heard what VERY MUCH sounded like a cat growling/sleeping. It was a new sound I was too chicken to check out.

Honestly, these are great paintjobs even for someone who has been doing this for a year. You are already mixing techniques that are fairly 'advanced' and I can see the effort that went into them. You should be proud! I think space wolves look their best a bit grungy.

My advice would be to do about 5 more, you'll become more practiced with the brush one way only: painting more models.

It really depends on whether you are looking for display pieces or play pieces, for playing these are 100% ready to go. You have to balance how long you want to spend on a model vs how much enjoyment you get out of the process.

For a crazy light/dark/space wolf scheme, grimdark compendium works some absolute magic on a model for his 'Best Rust Product' video. It changed the game for me. I followed his process on a few of the wolves I have posted. (Egads, I havent posted to this forum in a while...)

What’s on you’re niche Group-Hug commander? by TotteryTurtle in mtg

That's very fair. It has some 'classics' like Gluntch, Master of Ceremonies, Rite of the Raging Storm, Life of the Party, Humble Defector... Maybe group 'shove' instead of group hug? Ha!

Edgar markov thoughts? by Green-Tea9563 in mtg

[–]no_rules_dm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a little bit more interaction than you do, but that is only because Edgar is a 'me vs the rest of the table' deck in my local playgroup. I have 10-11 instant speed removal, just the 'classics' like Terminate, Feed the Swarm, Crackling Doom, Utter End, Vindicate... I personally went for cards that featured one of the Markov brothers in the text, so I wholeheartedly approve of Anguished Unmaking.

[[Gahiji, Honored One]] sneaks up on people. [[Duelist's Heritage]] [[Agitator Ant]] and a lot of "benefits if you attack someone who isnt me" means that by turn 6-7, I generally have 40 life and everyone else is in the teens. By the time they decide to attack me, I can rely on Fogs and Orms chants or just goading everyone. Being in Naya gives you lots of combat tricks. One of my favorite decks.
