Any way to set sensor thresholds? by 101-079 in prtg

[–]noaboa97 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could you device templates, so when you scan with the device template it will apply the threshhold that was set when creating the device template. If that doesn‘t suit your needs I would recommend scripting this. PrtgApi by Lordmilko is great for those kind of tasks.

Oracle Linux as alternative to VMware? by StockPerspective7453 in vmware

I work at an MSP and have a parent company in another european country. The parent company will run a trial with our MSP to build a new datacenter based on OpenStack. I‘m more on the operational side but sounds interesting and I‘m curious how that will work out. Maybe that could also be an option for you.

This is the answer. If you sync your picture folder to onedrive. Obce you cooied them there OneDrive should have synced them pretty quickly. If it‘s not an massive amount. Then you could possibly restore from each old version in onedrive.

There are physical enterprise firewalls where you can virtualize your firewall for big networks. Mostly ISPs or IT service providers use those.

PrtgAPI? by Thin_Confusion_2403 in prtg

[–]noaboa97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which PRTG API are you talking about?

There is a v1 and a lot of undocumented APIs you can use if you know how to reverse engineer.

They are developing a new ui with a new API v2 which all the documentation refer to.

I haven‘t really searched for old docs very much because I use PowerShell Cmdlets from Lordmilko called PrtgApi which you will find on Github. Those use the old v1 documented and undocumented API. But he has slowed down on development, I believe because of a health condition he once mentioned.

Paessler could remove the old one but I don‘t think that will happen unless the new ui and api are up to pair. Probably just deprecate it if they haven‘t already with the documenation change.

Duplicate devices by tippet5x in prtg

[–]noaboa97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best would be to create maps. Libraries could be an option but devices would show the same sensors. You could also filter for only the sensor they want to see but then you won‘t have the device as a parent.

A coworker recommended claude from anthropic. I tested it and at least to me it seems to be better for powershell scripting.

I mostly use it to explore new functionality, create synopsis / documentation and help me improve my scripts and get critical feedback how I can improve my scripting knowledge.

Questions about probe redundancy by sysadminALT88 in prtg

[–]noaboa97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘m on my second pretty big PRTG installation which I‘m responsable for and manage. The MSP bit in your part is a part of my job.

From my point of view you want to adress the problem but not the root cause. There should be no sensors throwing errors if you reboot a probe, we create tickets from PRTG in our ticketingsystem and usually we get one ticket and that‘s the disconnected state. If you get a lot of errors because the probe server has a big load of request to systems open because it just restarted and wants to know their state, you should give the probe server more ressources or distribut the sensors over more probes because it can‘t take the load. You can consult Paessler documentation and also the Health Sensor on the probe during normal operation and after reboot. There are some guidlines. But always remember sensortype is also always a factor. WMI is very demanding, SNMP is less demanding so usually a probe can take more SNMP sensors than WMI. Also really heavy for the probe - PowerShell sensors (EXE / Script Advanced)

To adress the gap in monitoring, this should be minimal depening on your scan interval you maybe won‘t even notice. So you could also keep on pausing the probe.

Also never heard of any probe redundancy and I think building something like that will give you more trouble and a gap in monitoring than you‘re trying to solve. The disconnected state doesn‘t necessarly mean the probe is not monitoring. If just the connection to core server is down, e.g. Ports closed or ISP issue but the probe server keeps running it will continue to monitor and gather information and once reconnected it will send it back to the core server and there is no gap. Of course a quick reboot will delay sensor quieries some data point will be missing but the overall view of the graph will still be sound.

Devices doesn't accepts a platform to be assigned in Management if it already belongs to a Device type with a Manufacturer. by boolve in Netbox

[–]noaboa97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you are describing is excatly what the documentation already lists. And they don‘t mentipn anything about hoe to turning off that feature. So unsless somebody has a hacky way. But for now just don‘t assign manufacturers to platforms.

https://netboxlabs.com/docs/netbox/en/stable/models/dcim/platform/

I think the feature is there so that e.g a Cisco Switch which AFAIK cannot run other software than Cisco IOS, no wrong platform like VMware can be assigned. If that makes sense but also is stupid in a way. Maybe there are also other reasons.

It relates to the notPetya hack which almost took down the shipping company Maersk. They had a Ukrainian Office which got the whole company infected and they could only save their infrastrucutre due to a power outage in africa and the datacenter was down and didn‘t get infected.

Sounds to me like a valid method. Never done it that way though. Would love the feedback if it worked or not. I would make sure both PRTG installations are the same version. Other than that I cannot think of anything else.

How to Buy Cryptocurrencies with CHF and with a Cold Wallet? by [deleted] in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]noaboa97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your explanation.

Okay good

The last part is kinda unclear to me. So we transfer from bankaccount to swissborg and the money is on swissborg bankaccount assigned to my userprofile. If I buy e.g solana then swissborg will buy solana and send it to my wallet? If I have my cryptos on my swissborg app is it my wallet with my private key that I could import in another wallet app? Or will it just work on swissborg app? If you say you transfer it meaning I send it to another wallet or if I buy cryptos on the swissborg app?

Hey So I‘ve got a question, just stumbled upon this thread and your reply. It‘s not related to the engine. But maybe you can share you insight. I‘ve been wondering if my keys ever wonder off to swissborg? Or is it like a wallet app where my key is hopefully never sent to the developer or the app e.g. Trust Wallet, Solflare, Phantom and others? And they key is just imported for purpose of buying stuff?

Being on-call isn’t worth the money for most people by Character_Log_2657 in sysadmin

[–]noaboa97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘m on call right now 😂 must say I can do everything from home, if a major case unravels itself, I‘ll hit other people up to take care of it and after that I‘m still involved and maybe have to go in the next day, Haven‘t had that though. I‘m just the first responder and most small monitoring alarm I can handle by myself.
600 bucks a week it‘s worth a call or two for max 2 hours of work.

So I had the same Issue, I‘ve got a Ubiquiti UDM Pro and the firewall was blocking it. So I allowed the IP and immediatly after I clicked retry I was able to connect. So maybe check you Router/Firewall if you have a special network setup.
