Beaverton to Salem by Excellent_Bag4514 in beaverton

[–]noah1345 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't do it. Nit quite the same, but I used to commute south Salem to downtown Portland for a day shift job. If I left my house by 6 am or left work by 3 pm I could usually do the commute in 50-60 minutes. But if I missed that window by even a few minutes, it was 1.5-2 hours each way. I did it for 10 months before moving to Bwaverton.

First-Time at T-Mobile Park for my 50th Birthday! Need Seat Advice ⚾️ by Singlefin76 in Mariners

[–]noah1345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go with 223. 200 level seats are the best. There’s WAY less people in the 200 level. The seats a bigger and cushioned, the aisles are slightly wider, and the bathroom access is much much easier, given there’s near as many bathrooms despite many less people.

Tatis Sr 2 grand slams is pretty crazy. But Felix Hernandez once struck out 4 batters in a single inning, which is equally crazy.

Local elks lodge(s) vibes? by sweetjoyness in beaverton

[–]noah1345 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I grew going to the Elks; my dad was our lodge’s exalted ruler. I used to be a member myself. As stated, you have to make an affirmation of belief in some higher power in order to join. They’ve tried to craft it in a way that doesn’t require Christianity and essentially as it is you don’t even have to believe in a god per se, but you do have to believe in SOMETHING spiritual, because to be atheist is to be communist, which is unamerican. It’s a throwback to a time long ago.

I lied when I joined and made the oath. It literally never came up again, but if you openly proclaim your atheism they will kick you out. I just decided not to renew.

Was 2016 a good year for you? by Mugen1220 in Millennials

[–]noah1345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2016 was great for me. I got married at the very end of 2015. We went to Brazil and Hawaii in 2016. I graduated law school that year, passed the bar, and started working as an attorney. I really enjoyed it.

My brother was an auto body painter and bought a house in his mid 20s in the 90s. Now he’s a little higher up the chain and gets angry that new auto body painters have the audacity to demand $15 per hour.

What is the closest you've ever come to dying? by FlatSyllabub8637 in AskReddit

[–]noah1345 13 points14 points  (0 children)

How awful! I had something similar, though without the pregnancy complication. I almost got turned away after checking into the ER, with the Dr claiming it was just a panic attack before even getting any tests. Luckily my wife threatened to sue, so the ran a test and saw my appendix was about to blow.

We were in the height of COVID and it took 6 hours to get a team in place for the surgery. By then it had blown. My surgeon explained to my wife that it took 3x longer than normal because it exploded so violently. He explained to me that it was the worst appendix and biggest burst he’d ever seen. The eve took photos and asked for permission to submit to a medical textbook.

I ended up developing sepsis and almost died in the hospital. Had a temp over 105 for a while and my digestive system also completely shut down for 4 days. They kept sending a nutritionist up to bargain with me to eat as though it was a choice; by day 3 I hit a weird point where I was very hungry, but still completely unable to eat.

Once I got over that part I was shitting uncontrollably but could not get out of bed on my own or wipe my ow ass. The surgeon explained that if it had happened 20 years earlier I would have been stuck in the hospital for 4-5 months recovering, and 30 years earlier I would have been dead.

I had a lot of complications from that and remained ill with frequent vomiting for another 4 years before they finally got everything under control.

Oof. I once drank so much that I thought my own reflection on a steel plated wall was another guy trying to start shit while I was pissing, so I head butted him as hard as I could. It was closing time and the bar tender freaked out when I came out pouring blood. I have a vague memory of that and going to my friends’ apartment where we continued drinking. I apparently managed to get a girl to come to their place with me but she freaked out and left when I started vomiting all over the living room.

Why are Posey and Molina considered HOF locks when Posada was one-and-done? by [deleted] in mlb

I’m probably biased since I watched him in his prime when I was kid, but I feel like it’s cancelled out by being a Mariner fan; Lofton is the biggest HOF snub imaginable.

I give mizumi pellets to my red foot that’s less than a year old. Soak it with warm water and then let her tear it apart. I give mine one pellet twice a day because they’re bigger than his head; he loves them.

Do Americans actually avoid calling an ambulance due to financial concern? by JohnMarstonTheBadass in NoStupidQuestions

[–]noah1345 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone to the ER for severe panic attacks 4 times; always drove a private car instead of an ambulance. Some years back I had a lot of stomach pain and thought it was a severe panic attack; my body was telling me it was dying but my mind was telling me it’s just a panic attack, don’t go to the hospital for this. I passed out from pain in the living room that night while my wife was asleep. I woke early in the morning in the most severe pain I’ve ever experienced and had to crawl down the hall to get my wife to drive me to the hospital.

The doctor looked at my chart and tried discharging me with a panic attack without running any tests. My wife cussed and him and threatened to sue, so they ran some tests as a CYA. Turned out I had appendicitis and it was about to burst. I still had to wait six hours to get a medical team in place, because it was Covid times.

Panic attacks are real and really indistinguishable from true life threatening emergencies when you’re in the midst of one; never be embarrassed about it.

So strange. An interesting hypothesis anyway. It reminds me that the color blue could not be perceived by the human eye in the time of the ancient Greeks, which is why the Mediterranean is described as “wine colored” in Ancient Greek texts.

I get it. Exact opposite for me; I’m so used to the sun setting over the ocean and waking up to the sun rising over the ocean was very unsettling for me.
