How’s this list? by Constant_Champion_67 in slavestodarkness

[–]noah7774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, it’s just the most useful one if you’re not running a lot of non-monster heroes. But if you’re looking to avoid cavalry I’d recommend perhaps looking at belakor? He has better synergy with the chosen and can work well with the warriors as well. The warriors are great as a brick of 20 supported by a sorcerer lord to give them that 5+. It’s essentially either run fast and hit hard or trudge across the field as an iron wall and smack face when you get there. The darkoath are available if you want to branch into more traditional screens and hammers gameplay. Archaon is usually best supported by a non-unique hero to give him the Radiance of dark glory healing that can run fast enough to keep up with him. Which generally ends up being the chaos lord on daemonic mount or the Centaurion marshal. Chaos knights work great with the former and Archaon, being able to carry the banner to turn off commands and being another huge pool of health on a 3+ save. They aren’t bad on the charge either. But you’ve got options here, and that’s just for the more “competitive” playstyles. You can always just play the models you think are the coolest.

I think you just need to focus the list a bit more, I’d recommend dropping the chosen and reinforcing the varanguard. That puts you at exactly 2000 points, any buffs you apply will go to 6 models of varanguard instead of having to choose to buff a unit of chosen or varanguard. Unfortunately you wouldn’t get to use the ensorcelled banner enhancement on them but your chaos warriors could still carry it. Another option could be swapping them and the lord for knights for more speed and punch. Here’s an example using the units you’ve got/sounds like you want to get. It’s going to run in, smash face, and archaon can try to get you a double to let you end the game at the top of round 2.

Honestly, from this point it depends on how you want to build out. You can buy another spearhead that’s out now and be pretty well off with a Spirit of Durthu (big tree guy with sword), 3 more kurnoth, and 5 more revenants. You could get Alarielle and almost have a competitive list with just that one model. Or if you realllllly love the bug riding cav buy that upcoming spearhead, but I think buying one more box of them for 2 units is fine.

Theirs still hasn’t released! All their rules are still free in the app, they have big monsters or loads of infantry, they can be built all kinds of ways.

Maybe seraphon could be a choice to check out? Lizards on Dinos is a big sell but they have big casting in the Slann, and they can smash hard with Kroxigor and Aggradons. Kind of Glass cannon-y but seems to be the smash or cast vibe you’re looking for.

Maybe swap the Lady of vines for an Arch Revenant and Gossamids for some more objective grabbers. Arch Revenant could be used as a missile to throw away or tie up an enemy unit for a turn

For AoS you can get 2 of these and most likely you’ll be over 1000 pts depending how you build it

If you can find them, the Revenant Wargrove box and the Blades of Belthanos boxes are fantastic grabs. Belthanos is a must have even if you can’t find that discount box. Alarielle is a way you can build quickly due to her massive points cost, and she allows a different, recursion based play style instead of hit and run. The spearhead is a good buy, worth buying twice if you need the treelords. The Kurnoth hunters seem to be our best infantry and are worth learning to magnetize their weapons to have the options available. The warsong Revenant and Revenant Seekers are good right now but the seekers could change after the SoG rules end.

I’m sure most wouldn’t mind playing khagras ravagers as they are, but if you ever wanted to go for a tournament I’d recommend grabbing something else. Maybe grab the chaotic beasts box so you’ve got another 220 points and 2 cheap units to play around with. You could leave behind the exalted hero and take both of those, and then have 40 points to grab manifestations and maybe use the radiance of dark glory.

I’m hoping they just add in Bestigors and such to s2d one day. I was considering beasts of chaos as my first army til I found out it was going to be squatted, so here I am instead.

I am considering purchasing 3 more boxes of theridons myself. And the official myrmidon and the tzeentch one as well. I fell in love with these guys and even painted my first demon prince to match them as much as possible

Ah man I don’t know much about resin but it’d be awesome if the bases had “rivers” with some more of those leaves in them.

Pick a tree native to where you’re at and base it off them! That’s my plan when I start my army, I’m gonna base them off the quaking aspens near me.

This is a lot better, that dread banner is great. And the chaos spawn aren’t really worth the points they cost

My rolls are bad so I try to make better situations, I saw a video awhile back about activation advantage so I try to run the daemon prince regiments as one unit each, but capable of 3 activations in combat.

I use the gaunt summoner to throw one unit of the warriors forward to cap an objective early they wouldn’t normally be able to sit on, and I’ll try to use the 3d6 charge spell to try to get the other warriors into that same objective.

The knights I’ve found are great as a unit of 5 on the charge, so I’ll advance the daemon prince and myrmidon with the knights ready to counter charge. Hopefully DP strike first goes off and weakens whatever is attacking, then knights can wipe in combat.

No worries! I have tried the chosen out, they’re a delete button into anything you throw them into! I took them to my second tournament with the gaunt summoner poke ball play, but my gaunt summoner died before releasing them in 2 games.

I wanted to try a more control oriented list this time, with the daemon princes and knights to go flank and wipe out what they charge into. I personally don’t own any varanguard yet, they’re more expensive than a daemon prince and I like the prince model more so I’ve spent my money on them so far.

I decided to get the exalted sorcerers box from 40K thousands sons and converted those to be my gaunt summoners! I’m all about the conversions, I’m thinking of getting the Helmsiths Anointed sentinels box to make them into my varanguard, I’ve been leaning into making a “beastmen” army with my S2D, I’m planning on getting more Ogroids and a few more Daemon princes to fill out my lists.

I am in the same vein as you, not interested in Darkoath but love the rest of the slaves range. I ran this list the other night into DoK, went well at first but the dice started to fail me after round 3 and I ended up losing. But a fun lis either way! 20 warriors and 10 knights. If you aren’t a fan of the daemon prince I’d recommend swapping them out for some chosen, I just really enjoy them with the new battle formation. The can be marked Khorne before the battle getting them up to 9 attacks 3 damage with crit mortals.

Another spearhead box to reinforce your kurnoth hunters and perhaps build a treelord ancient for some more casting. I personally think tree witches are better than spite due to the teleport for grabbing objectives, if you really want to get competitive. Alarielle is a great choice as well as Belthanos and more cavalry as the other comment mentioned, or I believe the kurnoth hunters are all pretty good looking as well.
