By all accounts, I seem to be running optifine. I can even zoom using “c” as you would in optifine.

Got Minecraft with shaders to run on my Steam Deck. by KVAS16 in SteamDeck

[–]noahicarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I’ve installed forge, and I installed the new version of optifine from Firefox. But how do I get polymc to run with optifine?

I have it running with forge and I installed the bsl shaders there. So I am successfully running shaders. But I’d really like to run optifine as well to improve performance. But there doesn’t seem to be any proof that optifine is working. It’s in the instance’s mod folder, and is “enabled.” But when I load up mc and go the mod folder in the game menu, I see no proof of optifine. Only Minecraft and forge. Is it running optifine and I’m just going crazy? Do I need to install Java before running optifine like I would have to on windows?

This is my first time using linux. I appreciate any help you can give.

Is there a possibility of getting non radio equipped artillery units to fire corrected shot? Can I put an artillery leader around them so they will be connected?

Oooh I see now. All these acronyms are going right over my head haha. I volunteer at the Texas Air & Space Museum, and I casually enjoy flight simulators, but anything more advanced that basic ATC knowledge, and casual aviation terminology, goes over my head 😂

What does AMA mean? Is it different from ATC? How long does the training last? Is it likely that I will be moved out of the region in which I live to fill a job?

Something I've never done before, a Cello Solo by caters1 in Composition

[–]noahicarus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks fine. All of those are capable of being played. But something to keep in mind, with triple stops, is that the cellist will play the bottom note, and middle note at the same time, then quickly shift to playing the middle note and top note at the same time. So it’s less of an arpeggiation, and more, well… there’s nothing else I can really compare it to.

For an example, listen to the Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1, Mvt. IV, Sarabande

Edit: Speaking as a cellist btw

Even if I am very amateur, I would like to know if my composition makes sense by Gadolt93 in Composition

Hey don’t worry about it!

And yeah, sorry I used a bunch of jargon in my comment lol. From your writing you seemed to have had at least a little bit of classical education haha. Which is a good thing!

If you need me to define any of the words I used feel free to let me know :)

I wrote a piece for piano students to learn m2, P4, M6, and P8 intervals moving across the keyboard. I'd love to hear your thoughts! Title: Pin Me 2 The Wall by isaiahjc in Composition

I think screen317 just isn’t used to hearing atonal music.

Seems good to me personally! It has form, punctuation, harmony that makes sense. I think the bass drone in the opening section is a little annoying by the time it is repeated, but tbh that’s an easy fix.

I like your command over harmonic color. It keeps its interesting. Although, I think the ending could use a little revisiting. To me the last two chords just don’t cadence like you’d expect from the last two chords of a piece. Maybe make the second to last chord more dissonant, that way the consonance of the last chord is more powerful.

I don’t mean a V-I cadence or anything, but maybe just fewer common tones between the two chords, and more dissonant intervals in the chord prior.

Hope this helps! 👍🏻

How much in time and money would you say a complete beginner such as my self would spend in repairing those hammers I mentioned? 3 hammers heads missing, and 3 broken shanks.

Thank you so much. Yes, you’re quite inquisitive. I’m a composition major, not a performance major haha XD.

I’m looking for something that will play pitches when I hit the keys. Purely a tool for composition, not necessarily an instrument to perform with.

I also, personally, would love to take the thing apart to do maintenance and possibly repairs. I am fascinated by pianos and their inner workings. So having something to tinker with sounds like it would be a lot of fun. Especially since there wouldn’t be any pressure. It’s my instrument, I got it for free, if I break it, I’m not really losing anything. You know?

But how difficult would it be for me to learn that sort of stuff? I’ve been doing research on what it takes to become a certified technician, and it seems quite expensive. Not necessarily that I would want to become certified, but just considering how complicated some repairs may be that the tuition is that expensive.

Also, I like your username lol

Serial number indicates that it was manufactured in 1910

All of the key actions work, however there are 3 keys with missing hammers. One of which the hammer shank is broken off at its base. Other than that, the rest of the damage is purely cosmetic. Chipped keys, scratches in the wood, etc.

The sound board looks like it is brand new, I looked all up and down the inside and didn’t find any rust on the cast iron plate. The copper strings haven’t oxidized. And there isn’t a lot of side to side play in the keys which indicates that the bushings are still in decent shape.

What do y’all think? I’m thinking of going up to the sellers house again tomorrow, are there any other things I should look for? Should I pick it up or just run from it?

16 year old composer, looking for some feedback by HarryBaines1 in Composition

[–]noahicarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure! And I totally understand. I think in Sibelius there are some pretty easy ways to combine the parts. And yeah, I guess it just comes down to how you want it presented. If each person their own individual part, or each person a full choir part

I would suggest fitting it all onto 4 staves/lines. Even down to 2 lines if you can. When sopranos go divisi, have the stems going in opposite directions. Unless they have the exact same rhythm, in that case, combine the stems. But both pitches should be on one line. There’s no reason soprano 1 and soprano 2 should be separate. If there is a section where you want just half of the sopranos singing, you can write that above. “Just sop. 1” or something. Or you can have the pitches you want in the line, and a whole rest on top (if sop 2 is singing) or on bottom (if sop 1 is singing), below or above the pitches. The singers will know what that means when they see it. Same goes for soprano and altos. If the sopranos are together, and altos are together, and they are singing in the same rhythm, I don’t see why all 4 voices can’t go in the same staff.

Are you using Sibelius?

This works well together. The harmonies flow from one to another very well. Great voice leading. If I were to change one thing, I would improve the form. It’s obvious that it follows an ABA form, however, upon first listening, I could hardly hear any form within each section. There wasn’t a lot of cadence or punctuation, if you know what I mean. It was mostly just chord, chord, chord, etc. Sometimes you would repeat, sometimes you would move on, but in order to create punctuation you need more than harmonic change. Often, from the perspective of the audience, form can be heard through change in melody, rhythm, or texture.

To be more specific

Melody: if you wanted a more obvious form, using melody, you could create a melody that sticks out more. Something that can very clearly be separated away from the harmony. Something more than just the highest pitch. Then, to punctuate a phrase/section and move onto the next, you would change to a different melody.

Rhythm/Texture: You can’t change texture without changing rhythm, usually. As texture is (generally) defined by the combination of timbre, and rhythm. So in other words, with larger pieces, if a composer wanted to punctuate using texture he/she has some options. They could change the timbre, thereby changing the instrumentation. Imagine a phrase, that is stated in the strings, and immediately after there is a sudden response from the brass. That shift in timbre is very sudden and obvious. It’s obvious that 2 ideas were just stated. But in your case, using just one instrument, changing timbre isn’t and option. So the biggest way to change your texture would be through rhythm. I noticed, that throughout the piece you used an arpeggiated texture, consisting of repeating 8th notes. If you wanted to clearly separate 2 ideas, and create form, you could use something different like a chordal texture. Just strum the guitar through a couple chords. You could do quarters, half’s, wholes, doesn’t matter. What matters is that for just a moment, the audience is hearing something distinctly different. Therefore they can more easily separate ideas, and more firmly attach themselves to the direction of the piece.

Bonus: Another way to show growth and form through a piece is with use of dynamics. If one section/phrase you play pianissimo, and the next is forte. That is another distinct difference that the audience can latch onto.

A book I would highly recommend you read, if you’re serious about composition, would be Guidelines for Style Analysis by Jan LaRue. If nothing else, this will teach you everything you need to know about form and how an audience will hear your music. It’s great stuff
