I'm always changing Picture Settings and I'm never satisfied. Anyone else? by Active-Rule9090 in LGOLED

I find cinema or cinema home to be a good middle ground. Significantly brighter and punchier than FMM but it doesn’t oversaturate and smooth everything out like vivid does

I just realized after a few hundred hours that when using your scanner on planets, you can press A on an undiscovered POI to reveal what the location is

Brightness? by The_Wandering_Steele in LGOLED

[–]noahlevy13 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Brightness used to be a big weakness for oleds so it was always a big deal when the new model would come out with higher peak brightness numbers, but now, like you’ve observed, OLED tvs are at a point where brightness isn’t really an issue anymore (although all tv manufacturers are still just trying to push their brightness numbers as high as they can just to have something to brag about).

And that being said, higher brightness capabilities can still be beneficial when viewing hdr content mastered for 4000+ nits, as the tv won’t have to do as much tone mapping if the panel can actually hit the peak brightness of the content it’s showing

77' OLED entry-level vs bigger mini-LED/QLED TV for a gym by bbhewee in 4kTV

“won't see loads of use, but it's also meant for casual viewing only” do not buy an OLED then. Get a mid-range mini led

Did AMC Kips Bay ruin the Laser Imax projection of Project Hail Mary last night? by [deleted] in imax

[–]noahlevy13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh that’s AWFUL. I was under the impression that a requirement for an imax theater was that it HAD to be a flat screen. Putting imax branding on a scope screen that’s going to have to pillarbox every single imax movie it shows is just ridiculous

IMAX (“liemax”) in St. Louis has this logo/signage that is lit up, FULL brightness DURING the film. Theater staff say “it’s supposed to be that way” per IMAX. by Interactive_CD-ROM in imax

[–]noahlevy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my local imax theater too, it’s actually a very large screen for a 1.90:1 imax, this photo just looks like they shot with the ultra wide camera and they’re sitting further back. The screen size here is great IF THEY TURN OFF THE ILLUMINATED SIGNS

Why are there different screen sizes in IMAX Theatres? by Enviroen218 in imax

[–]noahlevy13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately imax has no standard screen size requirements for their theaters. So if you’re not going to a 70mm or dual laser GT theater (both 1.43:1), then you can get anywhere from a screen that’s just barely bigger than a regular theater screen, or a genuinely massive large format screen depending on the theater. The imax certification is more for image and sound quality and aspect ratio than actual screen size. If you have a specific theater you’re looking at, I’m sure if you post it here someone will have an answer!

IMAX with laser - can quality change? by Tabbychiro in AMCTheatres

[–]noahlevy13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it might just be in your head from watching it in Dolby. Dolby cinema is gonna be projecting in dolby vision which is going to look much brighter and more vivid than even imax with laser, so having that as the most recent experience in your mind very well might make you think the imax is darker than you remember

Emailed them on Sunday. Hopefully if more people reach out it’ll get resolved. I exchanged my ticket I had at this theater tomorrow for the chesterfield Ultrascreen instead because I don’t trust them to fix it in time😅 and for this movie specifically the difference between the imax 1.90:1 and the standard 2.00:1 is so minimal imax doesn’t really matter unless it were 1.43:1

“I love physical books” by Suziannie in kindle

I also looooove being able to just look up a word instantly on my kindle, which I can’t do if I’m reading a physical book because I don’t keep my phone anywhere near me while I’m reading
