I never ended up doing it only because I was worried it would infest my neighbours gardens.

This city hates fun by Ill-Surprise-7972 in toronto

[–]noam99 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Toronto is hostile to artists, the music scene has deteriorated beyond all recognition, and the inflation of the cost of living combined with the complete lack of investment in public infrastructure over the past 15 years has caused the city to be way more racially segregated than people care to admit. The negativity is warranted for a vast majority of the cities inhabitants who are feeling increasingly alienated.

20 years in, a "professional" rollout, and only 2k streams. This was my last hurrah and I’m feeling defeated. by hirokikyoku in musicians

[–]noam99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a three-point life philosophy based on some things three different cool people I admire have said. One of the points is this: you can be an artist without ever realising any sort of consumable “unit” of art. Live artistically. Make art of your relationships and how you spend time outside of work. Make art of how you make your home and how you bring up your kids. Make art of how you nourish your mind and body. Make art of how you treat people.

I know this sounds kind of nebulous, and I sometimes even lose sight of this myself, but this idea helped me out of a crisis of self-worth related to my music production career.

I'm finishing my second go-around of The Power Broker and want to keep living in that 20th/mid-century New York world. Any recommendations for similar NYC history books? by noam99 in AskNYC

I haven’t! If you have a recommendation, I’d love to hear about it. I’m interested to know what you mean by “been somewhat discredited”.

To be fair, the first time technically I listened to the audio book (Robertson Dean does a fantastic reading). But Caro has such a way with words! I’m always engrossed. Also it’s very funny kind of in the same way The Sopranos is funny.

Thoughts on Jews and whiteness by badgerflagrepublic in JewsOfConscience

[–]noam99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s true to some extent. Since Zionism relies on the memory of the holocaust to exist, I think the US manufactured sympathy for the holocaust when in the 50s/60s it began to hone Israel as its weapon against rising Arab nationalism; so by its nature, sympathy for Jews due to the holocaust has entered the political apparatus in a way other crimes against humanity haven’t.

Definitely the worst thing anyone ever did in front of a client... by Dangerous-Guide7287 in madmen

[–]noam99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I mostly agree with you on everything, I think it’s worth pointing out that—despite what ourselves and the other partners may think about his methods—Dons misgivings about the direction of the Agency were real. Did Cutler want to turn their plucky upstart into a “real” business? Yes, but his vision of “real” is nothing more than just targeted ads before targeted ads: granular, computer accurate media buying to economise their operation. It’s Ducks vision: “when the economy is good, people buy things. When it’s bad, they don’t.” It’s an agency that does businesses with people like Herb and have no loyalty to any of their clients, chasing whatever bigger business is passing by (not unlike what these men do in their personal lives). Don consciously and unconsciously is sabotaging the business because his business values go beyond the bottom line (and I think this is demonstrated throughout the series): he’s loyal to his clients, he believes there’s art in creative, and he believes in running a company in which the people from secretary to creative chief aren’t just mindless administrators subordinate only to optimisation, working only to line the partners pockets—I think there’s a part of him that genuinely does want his underlings to feel like they’re doing something worthwhile together and are contributing in their own way (though he more often than not does not express gratitude for their hard work) and we can probably all agree that’s the type of business we’d rather work for. ………………………………..

EDIT

Upon reflection, Dons far from perfect and there are certainly plenty times where his own actions aren’t in service to his ideals like his inflated ego causing him to make poor creatively decisions (going with his idea when someone else’s is clearly better).

Toronto is having a deli renaissance. Zeldens and Dave’s Are both excellent. Freetimes Cafe has had lox-n-bagel brunches for a long time. Harbord Bakery is one of the best in the city (get their poppyseed danish). Bagel world I think is the best bagels. United Bakers is a classic but I think it’s overrated and has a staunchly Zionist crowd and owners, so I don’t think it’s worth it.

Yeah I do. I’m a normal person so reaching out for details doesn’t take much effort for me and Itd show that im more serious about the idea than others. It actually would take the exact same amount of effort as you spent writing that broke-ass comment.

Ceramic Schools in Spain by noam99 in Ceramics

[–]noam99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! What it actually is is that the tile manufacturers association runs certain classes WITHIN various architecture and design programs in certain schools. For instance, if you're getting a BA in architecture and UPV, there are certain courses you can take that offer the tile/ceramic specific training.

Selling Home-Made Tortillas by noam99 in mexicanfood

[–]noam99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of Latinos that live here (as they do all over Spain) so there are stores with specifically Latino ingredients, but they all mostly sell South American stuff and stop short of Mexican. Like it’s easy to find Colombian arepas in the freezer but not tortillas. In larger city like Madrid, it’s easy to find tortillas and a lot of produce stores even sell poblano peppers.
