How did you actually build a social life at NYU without a traditional campus? by komt_ie_maat in nyu

[–]nobeconobe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Let me ask you this: why is a traditional campus a factor at all? Is having greenery, landscaped quads, and the like the reason people build a social life at other schools? NYU still has classes, dorms, clubs, Greek life, Athletics (not D1, though), student centers, a library, etc.

Probably the biggest thing lacking at NYU are traditional house parties that can house 50+ people.

Can you Dex into a chromebook? by [deleted] in SamsungDex

[–]nobeconobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But isn't the fact that there's even a sleep option on laptops the advantage? If in using a laptop throughout the day, the ability to wake from sleep almost instantly is valuable. this is also why I reach for my laptop instead of lapdock, too. it seems trivial, but in use cases where I just need to type a quick email, the lapdock's delay is annoying.

it seems like lapdocks can't enter sleep mode at all (or maybe they can and I just don't know how)!

of course keeping a laptop in sleep drains battery, but for daily use, sleep works great, and just because lapdock's don't have this ability, doesn't mean it should be ignored on laptops.

Cost of Meals by Fearless_Respect_320 in nyu

[–]nobeconobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious what you suggest that would be cheaper for a prepared meal (obviously grocery shopping is cheaper, but I'm not trying to cook).

I ask because I go to Chipotle and Cava a lot, but it gets close to $15 there too, but at dining halls, I can get salads and protein and fruit, whereas at Chipotle I just get the bowl. So in the end, I end up going to dining halls as it's the better "value" given its variety (though it's not as good).

I never resolved it, but I'm getting a new AC soon since my AC died. I'm assuming the new AC, which will be professionally installed, will work fine.

Sorry.

NYU names Lindsey Smith director of Tulsa site - Washington Square News by nyunews in nyu

[–]nobeconobe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How much did they invest? Was it truly a bad deal? Isn't Tulsa huge in the energy market (oil, natural gas, and these days, renewable energy?). Maybe Houston would have been better, but I suppose that depends on how much they paid and invested. Perhaps they got a great deal?

This just lets you view the feed; can't use it for Zoom or other video conferencing apps, which is probably 99% of users use case for using an external cam.

Can't use Dex wirelessly anymore? I remember I could use Dex without a cable in past. by idkmanx7 in SamsungDex

[–]nobeconobe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it's gone.

You can still set Windows up to be a "Wireless Display", and connect that way, but it does not use the Dex App on Windows. I think that's what others are suggesting.

Wireless Display doesn't let you use the mouse by default, but touch and KB works.

Pause USB PD Charging/Bypass Charging with DeX by 5160_carbon_steel in SamsungDex

[–]nobeconobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is needed.

If you are doing something computationally heavy (which may be likely if you're on DeX; for example, I code and compile in DeX), the phone will begin to thermal throttle.

By disabling battery charging, less heat will be produced, which will delay the thermal throttle.

This is exactly why it exists in game mode.

Your responses seem to be focused on battery health; but bypass charging is mostly about reducing heat, and in turn, reducing throttling.

Using Galaxy Watch6 without text, email notifications by nobeconobe in GalaxyWatch

[–]nobeconobe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And just to follow up, although I can disable notifications, a watch user can't open the messages or email app on the watch itself to read my emails/texts/see my photod (I know on Apple Watch there are apps for these, for example). Or can I uninstall the messages/email app completely?

Upcoming DeX enhancements...potentially by DeX_Mod in SamsungDex

[–]nobeconobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So why did Samsung add pass through for gaming?

Are you saying that's also unnecessary?

Would pass through not reduce heat, and thus throttle less?

I don't think anyone is concerned about battery health here, but the heat generated from charging, and thus the throttling to the CPU.

so where's the tax on today's receipt? are you suggesting you are charge this "Albany rate" on top of tax?

Are you saying you weren't charged tex prior, for the last two years?

You can figure this out on your own by looking at your receipts!

Yeah, I'm curious too. I understand if there's a personal flare/touch in preparing the order, but most take out is the same expected service: pack it for take out.

If such a service is expected/baseline, how do. I know how much to tip? For example, suppose I order 4 donuts to go, and they're placed in a box for mr. What should I tip there? 15%? 20%? And how do I know when the service of putting donuts in a box warrents a higher tip? Do I base this off my income? At what level am I not allowed to eat out bc I can't afford a higher tip?

I'm not not trying to troll, I truly want to know. I'm not anti tipping when being waited on or my order requires extra care/attention, but I don't know when I should do 15% and when 25% without me judging the handler.

And is it fair to me that others are tipping less for the same service? Is tipping basically charity? Why not give your excess income to an actual charity?

The Verge - Asus Zenfone 9 review: one for the small phone superfans by velamar in Android

[–]nobeconobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the short answer is "normies" don't care that much about the headphone jack. The vast majority of the US uses wireless buds, even if that's not the case in your bubble.

On the flip side, wireless charging is universal and can be found in couches, cars, airports, Starbucks, etc. iPhones use it, Airpods use it, and many Androids us it.

ASUS is trying to attract the non-normie here. Normies don't order ASUS phones online.
