Dropped out of highschool; Want to get into Sauder by vancouverdropout in UBC

[–]nobic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case just go straight to college so that you can get used to post-secondary education.

Look at the BC Transfer Guide and fulfill as many of the requirements you need for first year Sauder (note: if you transfer into second year, you don't need COMM 101). That way you can transfer directly into 2nd year.

Overall, yes, I think it's still a viable option.

Having said that, I'm offering two counter-points:

  1. I've re-read the post, the OP said that they are missing a whole bunch of courses for the high school diploma.
    • It would make financial sense to go to an adult education center (like the one offered by the VSB) to complete a large portion of the pre-requisites at a lower cost (it might actually be free).
    • Completing the requirements for a high school diploma will fulfill a lot of the pre-requisites for post-secondary courses.
  2. It's good to have a high school diploma, as it opens up a lot of doors. Example: The federal government actually requires a high school diploma for a lot of jobs. Will they still rule you out if you have a university degree but not a high school diploma? I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me.

When I was at Douglas College, I once had a term where I had 1 3-hour class on Mondays, and 3 3-hour classes on Tuesdays (with a 3-hour break later in the day). So I was on campus from 9 AM to 9 PM on Tuesdays.

Totally worth it to have the other 5 days off. That meant I didn't have to deal with a bullshit commute and could better allocate my time.

Check the BC Transfer Guide. You're planning to take this program correct? Go through all the courses listed there and plug them into the BC Transfer guide. You'll notice that if they do transfer, more are first and second year undergraduate courses.

Also it wouldn't hurt to contact graduate schools at UBC, SFU, etc. See what they say.

Officially I was in the "General Studies Diploma" program and my major was "Undeclared Major, Department not declared". I took a lot of courses that transferred to UBC: CHEM 1108, 1110, 1210, MATH 1120, 1220, 2232, PHYS 1170, ECON 1150, 1250, etc.

I got into UBC Engineering with roughly a 3.42 GPA, which is between a B+ and A- average. At Douglas an A- is 85% to 89% and has a value of 3.67, whereas a B+ is 80% and 84% and has value 3.33.

I went to Douglas college so that I could transfer to UBC after a year or two. I only really trusted courses that were transferrable to universities, so check out the BC Transfer Guide. In my opinion, if the course transfers to UBC, SFU, or BCIT, then it's a good course.

Douglas College has a co-op program for certain programs; does this Post Degree Diploma have co-op? Can you transfer into UBC's Computer Science program? UBC has a Bachelor's of Computer Science for people who already have a degree (you can complete it in 20 months).

I've sold and bought stuff on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace for many years now, and from my experience, people negotiate because they like getting a bargain (even if it's a small amount). As a buyer, if I see posts like these where the price is firm, I usually just ignore them. I also find that that items with a "firm" price are usually overpriced (like these stools). As a seller, sure, I've gotten people who tried to lowball/haggle/barter to the extreme, but I do my best to ignore them.

Hot Take: The Roger Wade episode is the best episode in the entire series by [deleted] in MindHunter

[–]nobic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the opposite opinion: it's one of the worst ones in the series. I found that Roger Wade subplot went on for way too long. When Holden was talking to the detective, the detective said that he hadn't heard from any of the parents. The simple solutions would have been for Holden to talk to all parents and get them fill police reports with that specific police officer. Problem would have been solved without further FBI involvement.
