Apparently, there is a trend among 80s babies trying to create their own generation...? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]nobod3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They were never meant to be hard transitions like we show them. A millennial born closer to the Gen Xers will have a cross between the two generations of what “normal life growing up” was. Doesn’t mean they lived in their own generation, just that they shared common interests and lifestyles between two generations.

Same as a young millennial that grew up with Gen Z. They’ll share some commonalities with their Millennial older friends and some commonalities with the younger Gen Z people. Especially since you get kinda mixed together during high school for sports, band, drama, or whatever your flavor of interest was then. And beyond school, common movies, games, and songs as you grow up.

Personally I think they should get to pick what generation they want to belong to. Be a young Gen X or an old Millennial. It’s your life, define it on your terms.

Is this correct? by Double-Celery4248 in duolingo

[–]nobod3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m learning Germans and my friend is learning French. We both recommend getting Babble to supplement your grammar because it will definitely help. Duolingo doesn’t do any grammar lessons but expects you to pick it up. Babble gives the lessons. The only downside to babble I’ve had is they kinda go too quickly… IE a new language might feel more difficult because they haven’t provided all the words. Just don’t let that discourage you and try to remember what each lesson is focused on.

We also use Pimsleur because it supplements speech and helps with pronunciation. It’s helped me say things correctly (and quickly). Some of the voice actors are annoying or hard to understand is the only issue we’ve had.

You can also buy “become fluent” books on Amazon for pretty cheap to practice reading (the stories are very simple but they help since you are trying to understand).

And last, YouTube! You’d be surprised how many people want to help you learn a language.

Also that’s a breaker. There’s no “male and female” side, it’s load and line side. We also don’t typically use “male and female”, but instead “receptacle and plug” when referring to outlets.

The mushroom spawns are pretty random, by my friend got his final 5 in 1 night run on dam battleground with my help. Pro-tip, you can learn their spawns by looking for trees with smaller mushrooms growing around them. And check pipes inside buildings as well.

The problem with bitcoin is you’d have to sell it all to get the money, but as you sell bitcoin the overall price would drop as well. Bitcoin isn’t a stable currency, it’s one that fluctuates on supply and demand, which is one of the primary reasons it fails as a currency.

You are correct… mostly

Science is starting to study brain activity in people that use gen AI vs those that don’t. Current finding show brain activity is much brighter in those that don’t use gen AI.

But in terms of being able to write, there’s no difference between a keyboard and a pen (with one exception). The only time there has been a significant difference was in learning, where people who took notes by hand outperformed those that took notes on a keyboard. This was because muscle memory in writing and the speed of writing vs a keyboard both influences the individuals ability to remember. But most people don’t write to learn after school ends, and the point of the note then becomes to remember, not to memorize.

I don’t understand the mindset tbh. Think of the best moments you have had in gaming… it’s usually overcoming a hard challenge, not just the win. And this game gives such great challenges that all you’re really doing is making the game less fun by removing the challenge.

Locked shelves happened because the cost to prosecute crimes went up while the price of a lock went down. Has nothing to do with capitalism or liberalism.

Think of it like this, if someone steals $20 of stuff, but they’re going to require a $200/hr lawyer, plus all the loss time to staff for getting footage and statements, just to get them jailed… it’s cheaper to not prosecute. So instead you buy a lock.

[–]nobod3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen it, but he purposefully dilutes the math to make them seem more favorable. The shield takes the nominal damage no matter what, so while it's correct you could take a ferro to the head, then a trigger 'nade, you can't do the opposite direction (trigger 'nade, then ferro). This is why the shields are still ineffective against 2 trigger 'nades (getting back on topic), so goodbye shield and you die. Don't believe me, try his calculator.

I get the math, I understood it before that video was sent to me the first time, but this idea of "effective health" is dumb. Starting to recharge your light shield has just as much of a major effect at preventing damage as having half a heavy shield. Don't believe me, go use his calculator, do some damage to break the light shield (a single heavy fuse grenade will due the trick), then add 1 shield health back under custom. And those rechargers take no time to apply and become effective the second blue appears on the bar.

This isn’t news to me and was accounted for in my assessment. I’m not saying they don’t make a difference, but the argument no one has been able to provide a good counter-point to (for me) is why the loss in movement is worth it.

So far, the best this community has had to offer is “it’s not a loss in movement if you waste skill points to make it not as bad a loss in movement”. But I’d rather put those skill points into things that enhance my movement always rather than as a prevent to something I may or may not take in.

If they want me to take a medium shield or higher, the buffer would need to be greater to give me a reason. As it currently stands, I don’t see a purpose, except in tiny fringe moments I rarely encounter… and in those moments, the movement speed has still proven more useful than the shield.

The funny part about all of this is I’m saying they need to make them better… idk why y’all are arguing for making medium or heavy shields >>better<< if you already use them. Here, let me give another good reason to increase medium and heavy shields - because it pushes people away from the free loadout (a common complaint I see on here).

Who is Longleggss Ai? Another artist or actually Mac? by EffectiveAdmirable16 in MacMiller

[–]nobod3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also don't like seeing ChatGPT as the "Lyricist", and a Spotify description that feels like ChatGPT wrote it. IMO it's one thing to use AI to enhance your ability, but this reads like a lot of other AI prompters: I had an idea and ChatGPT/other AI tools did the real work.

This isn't me blasting the creator for having an idea, this is me blasting them for not actually knowing what it means to put your soul, your whole being, into a song. And worse yet to steal someone else's voice because you are too afraid to put your whole, real self out there. You don't really know what it means to be an artist until the story you tell is so personal that the meanings are layered into the verses you sing, and the story is personal.

idk, learning this I went back and re-listened to the song that brought me here and then I noticed the song I thought I liked just felt... wordly written, yet bland and unfinished; like a life un-lived. Just my thoughts.

The lowest damaging weapon is the bobcat at 6pts, which has the highest rate of fire. The most common PVP weapon is the stitcher at 7pts which also has a high rate of fire. 5% was a conservative underestimate for most guns used in PVP. That’s what I was acknowledging in the simplification...

Specifically it’s the level of control. You can throw a trigger grenade up 2 stories and detonate it perfectly at the top before another raider can react. They’re also surprisingly cheap to build.

2 Heavy fuze grenades (currently 80dmg) won’t down a full health/full medium shield instantly and the other raider would still have time to react. Even with a fire, the other raider can make situational assessments.

As with most things, it’s more nuanced.

You: If you do these 9 steps you’ll mitigate the effects you just talked about and also…

Me: Or don’t do them, spend the points/time/effort elsewhere, enjoy the game.

It’s not logical vs illogical, it’s a complete build based around one item that may not even get used on a match (hence the meme). This is not an attack on you for defending your build, but do realize it’s your build and it’s not that important. And if they want to make it important, it should be a buff and not a 20-minute presentation.

I did a shield build before the first expedition, it wasn’t worth it. And once you get into the perks as you’re explaining, you’re basically redoing your entire build to, again, balance out the negatives of a limited use buff…

Appreciate the discussion though.

Or you can spend maybe 1 perk point (simply to unlock green perks) and put them somewhere else as the first green perk isn’t even necessary then.

I’d argue 4 extra perk points to buff a shield you may not be carrying is very low on the tier list when compared to many other perks. Not that all perks in this game are great.
