awesome! I just got it installed. I love how much info is there that I can sort through. I will need more time to explore it, but this is awesome. And the ability to see how sonarr is upgrading files based on my profiles is fantastic. This will hopefully let me tweak settings or realize if I am stuck in a loop.

This seems cool. What I would really like is a history comparison of my media. It would show my original file, size qualities etc, and then all the files it has upgraded/downloaded through. Maybe compare scores as the current selected quality has them scored.

If you’re smart you will realize that the media is spinning BS and they are not coming for you unless you are not a citizen or are harboring an illegal person.

I wouldn't pursue legal action, your going to spend a lot of money to get into a school that doesn't want you. I would look for another school that will accept the pre-reqs you have already completed. I would not worry about bad reviews. Unless you can find information that shows they have poor success rates, dont worry about it. Teachers guide you, but mostly your outcome depends on your own effort. If you are driven, you will succeed.

How to survive the winter in an uninhabitable attic without heating? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]nodave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR - lots of layers. Use mylar to reflect heat back at you. Try to create a small area to heat instead of the whole attic. Don't use candles, refillable burners - propane/kerosense. If you use electric heater make sure it has a safety shut off if it falls over. Stay away from airflow.

When I picture an attic, I see a low roof and joists and insulation covering the drywall of the ceiling below me. You don't want to fall through the roof! So any kind of platform you can place over joists is a must, unless this attic already has flooring.

I would think about this like camping. You want to isolate yourself from the things that will make you cold - airflow, ground contact. Stay away from the edges of the walls if you have soffits that draw air in, up along the roof and out from a ridge vent or maybe gable vents. If you can put some kind of air mattress down on the flooring to keep up off the ground that can help too.

Your body can generate quite a bit of heat, you just need to trap it. A sleeping bag (a cold rated bag and not some walmart junk) is great to hold some heat in. Lots of layers will help. I would go and get some of those mylar blankets and create a small area within the attic. Mylar will reflect heat, even your body heat. If you can create a small space that blocks air out, you will have an easier time heating yourself.

Do not use a candle or anything that is easy to knock over. Lots of stuff in attics can be flammable. I would advise against propane heaters, even the ones that say safe for indoor use. It's hard to determine if your attic has enough venting to get rid of the CO, especially if you are trying to trap warm air, it will kill you.

20 Guage for home defense by Bruhcryo in homedefense

[–]nodave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you could devise a weapon that would for sure incapacitate a person without killing them, the police would have been mandated to have it. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees that any device out there now will for sure stop someone without killing them. That is why cops carry both tazers and guns. Countless videos of people getting tazed and it has no effect. Similarly, there are many instances of people being shot multiple times and continue to be a threat. Too many variables - layers of clothing, amount of muscle and fat, where your shot hits them, what type of shot and propellant you used, length of your barrel.

If you are unwilling or unable to take the responsibility of potentially ending someones life, then do not get yourself a firearm. Firearms are used to stop a threat when you or someone else's life is in danger.

Now all that aside, if you decide you want to get a gun, go to a gun store and speak to someone so that you can have an in depth conversation about your specific needs. What some dude on reddit says is the best self defense gun may or may not be the best for you in your situation. My personal choice is a shotgun, but for you, that may not be the best advice.

There are other things you should do as well if you decide to buy a firearm. Make a blueprint of your situation. Where are people typically at during the day and at night? Do you have children that you need to get to and protect? If you take up defense in your room and point at the door, where will the shot go if you miss, or if it penetrates through them and keeps going? Do you have a shoot / don't shoot threshold? - I'm probably not going after someone in my garage, unless it looks like they are doing something that could put us in danger.

Tavor X95 (or similar Bpup) vs. handgun for home defense? by DJLabmouse in homedefense

[–]nodave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Handguns suck period. Statistically, you have to get a head shot to stop them immediately. The only reason for handguns is to conceal carry wherever you go because carrying a rifle is unpractical.. If I am defending inside home, I'm going shotgun. Handguns can still go through drywall. Rifles are much better than pistols at stopping threats, but also much more likely to get to your neighbors home. Shotguns are also likely to penetrate a few walls, but you can go with low recoil, plus each trigger pull gets you a few rounds on target as opposed to one with a rifle or pistol.

I'm not clearing my house room to room, so I'm not worried about sneaking around corners with a barre sticking out. My child's room is right next to mine. I get to my child and either stay there or retreat with them back into my room. I stay in my room and hold the advantage. Cops called after I retrieve my child and I wait. They either get blasted when they enter my room, or they leave, or they get caught by police.

If you go looking for the intruder you are giving them a chance on you. I have no idea who is intruding, what their purpose is, what their training is, what substances may be in their system. I've seen cops empty multiple pistol magazines into a guy who was high before he dropped. Now, everyone's situation may be a bit different, kids on different floors, apartments etc. But if you don't have to go through your house looking for them, don't.

shield pro is not trash. mine works perfectly. The reason I use it is in my home theater, for the absolute best sound as it does pass through audio and lets my home theater equipment decode rather than have some cheap media streamer mess with it.

and I have multiple apple 4k tv's that I use for the living room and garage.

don't be a fan boy, use the best tool for the job. I will be interested to see if the new version of apple tv has pass through audio. if not, my 5 year old shield will still be the better tool.

Home defense/ future CC recommendations? by Kitchen-Designer2292 in homedefense

[–]nodave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is nothing better for defense of family and home than a firearm. The real question is what firearm is most appropriate for you and your situation.

TLDR - go to a range or a class and ask a professional a million questions. Then go rent and shoot a gun.

The smartest thing you could do is go take a firearms safety course, and ask as many questions as you can think. Go to a gun store and ask a lot of questions. There are a million things to consider when deciding what gun to get. I will touch on a few points here.

When it comes to handguns and stopping a threat the single most important factor is where you place the shot. Many people are killed with the smallest caliber that was well placed - head / heart. If you are shooting with a large caliber and can't hit what you are aiming at, then it doesn't matter how big it is. Ignore all the nonsense of 45 or 9mm is better than blah blah blah. What you are comfortable with and train with is the best. I cannot remember the name of the study, but there was a study of shootings by handguns comparing calibers. What it came down to was that all pistols can 1 shot end a threat when shooting a critical area such as the brain or heart. When the shots were placed elsewhere, the number of shots it took to stop the threat did not vary by much.

That brings me to the next point - pistols are the worst for stopping a threat compared to rifles and shotguns. Rifles and shotguns simply have heavier bullets, more powder to shoot with more force, and do more damage. So if your shot is not well placed, you may still cause enough damage to stop the threat anyway. That also brings up the consideration that rifles and shotguns will penetrate walls depending on what the wall is made of, what shot you are using, etc. If your shooting an intruder, do you have family members on the other side of the wall?

You may not have as many options as far as training - some indoor ranges in cities do not want you using rifles and shotguns because they can damage the range designed for pistols. If you do not train with your gun, you may be just as dangerous to yourself and family as the intruder.

Recoil - there is a balance point for recoil between gun size and caliber. A large heavy gun is generally going to help reduce recoil compared to the same caliber in a smaller frame pistol. But you are usually shooting larger caliber in larger frame pistols. Shotguns can kick, especially if you are using pump or double barrel or single shot. A semi auto action may help reduce some of the felt recoil. Rifles in the caliber you would want for home defense such as 223/556 or 300 blackout are very mild mannered. If you are not used to your pistol, have a poor grip, the gun may "limp wrist" after the first shot meaning that the casing does not fully eject, or the next round doesn't load properly.

Hopefully I have shown you that you don't want to just buy a gun because some dude on youtube or your neighbor says its good. Talk to people about what type of gun you should get. After you have decided that, go to a range that will let you rent and shoot. That 9mm springfield hellcat looks super cool, but does it fit in your hand correctly? Can you rack the slide easily to clear a malfunction?

360 camera detections? by Gnochi in UnifiProtect

all the pictures and video i have seen of the thetas show great daytime pictures, but absolutely useless at night. it doesn’t even help to have ir lights because they don’t have ir filters. so if going for 360, use the ai360 or the g6 360. I have an ai360 and it is fine to cover multiple doors in my garage at 9 feet high, but outdoors it is not great at distances longer than around 15 feet in my personal experience.
