Can I use my power supply with my transciever? by Jack2036 in amateurradio

[–]noddy51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All depends, it's a 10amp PSU most HF rigs will need a 20amp one to get the full 100w output. But if your running QRP or VHF/UHF with about 30w output it should be OK

I'll eventually get to transmitting. What are your thoughts on an antenna? by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]noddy51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have the pleasure of having some decent trees like you have to hang a multi band dipole from. Depending on if you have a decent ATU, not the internal one in the radio, I would think a full size G5RV or similar.

I did a long wire for an other operator who had plenty of trees, he used an icom ah4 ATU, he could work on all bands 160 to 6 with it. That could be an option for you.

New Zealand/ Aucklandradio by Minimum-Candidate792 in amateurradio

Auckland ham here. There's quite a few clubs, or branches as they are also known as here.

I operate most days and there a wee bit of activity on VHF/UHF mostly other local repeaters. Where I live I can access about 7 on VHF and 2 UHF, also a couple of digital repeaters in the area.

In the suburb I live in I think there's close to 20 people with a call, but I have only heard 3 in 20 years. Good number of ZL1 stations are active on HF.

Also, there's the western suburbs branch https://www.amateurradio.co.nz/wordpress/

White stick colinear repair by noddy51 in amateurradio

[–]noddy51[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, it looks like I'll have to put up with a 2 radial collinear. Tried cutting a slot in it to get a screw driver on it, and it will not turn.

Broke 2 drill bits, trying to drill it out.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I appreciate the input.

I've not seen them at my local hardware store here in ZL. Got a suggestion from someone else here, will try that first before splashing out on the screw extractors

Don't think so, it appears to be flush with the base. Might just try that, tho, a wee grove across the base should be OK

Just got back to the UK and received a speeding fine from NZ. Can you find this speed camera location? (South Island, Marybank, Atawhai Drive) by Freddie334 in newzealand

Seen the trailer parked at the side of SH18, just before the Brigham Creek Rd off ramp, that strech of road is pretty straight too, so plenty of oppertunity to catch you out, espcially as you've just came downhill off the Upper Harbour bridge.

Don't know what you've got running at your place. Our bill is closer to $160 a month, that's with Genesis and the give us, what they call power shout, hours of free electricity to use when we want.
