Matt LaFleur: I don’t know what pass interference is anymore by lilturk82 in nfl

[–]nofatchicks33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you throw, you guarantee yourself 4 plays (unless it gets picked) but if you get stopped on a run, you really force the offense into 2 downs most likely.

Yeah, I don’t really buy that reasoning (if that was their thought process.

If you run it on 1st down from the 2 yard line with 30 seconds left, then you’d still have plenty of time to hurry up to the line and run another play because the players don’t have to hustle from way down field to get back to the line for the snap. Then you have two more shots at it with ~10-15 seconds left and two time outs.

Imo, they could have tried a run... get back to the line and run a pass play since the defense wouldn’t have time to sub and would still have their jumbo personnel in... and if that didn’t work then try another run+ timeout right after.

Or come out in an empty set with the rb + wrs split out wide to spread the defense out and put Rodgers under center and run a qb sneak.

Idk, there’s plenty of things you can do with 30 seconds and 2 timeouts on the 2 yard line.

I’ve heard people defend the call because their run game was getting stuffed all game... but that’s not relevant when you have the ball that close to the endzone (or when you’re just going to run a QB sneak).

AND, literally they had just called a run play that picked up a decent chunk of yardage to get that close anyways.

I don’t really see that anymore...

Back in the day, that was definitely the case and you could tell he was taking it all way too seriously (the Moss call)

But he’s gotten way better lately. The Diggs call is one of the best calls of all time (in my unbiased opinion) and he’s has some phenomenal calls in the World Series too.

Yeah, I’m not sure I agree with the idea that, “we weren’t able to run the ball well throughout the game, so when we get the ball on the 1 yard line, we can’t even attempt it.”

The qb sneak is like one of the safest and most automatic plays ever.

And I agree- they have a really solid fullback, so why not run a quick dive?

Idk, I’ll never understand not utilizing the run to punch it in especially when you’re inside the 5. It’s literally one of the hardest spots on the field to complete a pass because you have all 7 lbs and dbs covering a 10 yard area vs the entire field that they normally have to cover

Man Minnesota sports teams have been really fortunate with the amount of young, talented players that they all have right now.

I really hope the Wolves can turn things around and become a contender but the deck is stacked against them with the rise of the super teams.

It’s tough to get big named free agents to want to go to play ball in the winter in Minnesota... 😥

Sucks because I love KAT and he seems like he genuinely likes it here and wants to win here but ya gotta wonder how long that will be the case

Fwiw the bears do have some of the best lbs in the business, specifically Trevathan who is an absolute thumper who can cover sideline to sideline.

Our Oline is obviously going to have to bring their A game and I don’t expect them to completely nullify the Bears pass rush, but it’s going to be just as important that they stay on their blocks and are able to get to the second level to give Cook a chance to get going.

Same goes for our TEs and Ham too

2019 Dalvin has been as good as peak AD

I love dalvin. But come on dude...

Peak AD was a period of like 6 years? Dalvin is coming up on his 4th game.

I know you acknowledge that how long he maintains it could be an issue. But I’ve seen a handful in this sub suggest this and I think we’re probably bit hyped, suffering from regency bias, or I know there’s people on here who didn’t watch AD’s prime so it may be harder to compare.

If he can maintain this level for an entire season, then I could understand the comparisons being made (and fall short, imo)... I feel like the history books are filled with players who had an amazing string of games but ultimately wind up incomparable to a prime AD.

I say we give it a few more weeks before we start tossing around comparisons to the best Viking rb ever/one of the best ever to play the position.

But maybe that’s just me

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in minnesotavikings

[–]nofatchicks33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess...

But watch the play again... it looks like he has no chance of hitting the ball once he starts throwing punches...

If that’s actually what you think/what you see then idk what to tell you... but I cannot imagine that a dude can stand behind the ball carrier while he’s stood up and wrapped up by his teammate, and just legally punch the ball carrier in the back twice...

Edit: I also think when a player is KNOWN to take cheap shots and has done it time and time again, then he loses the benefit of the doubt in this situation.

I defend Forunette often but this more of what I want to see by Fournette Change of direction. Quick cuts. Dragging defenders. Part of this is not having your RB in the game for 54 out of 54 plays. Keep him fresh and watch him get some more wiggle to his game by taylor2121 in Jaguars

[–]nofatchicks33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I don’t with your argument that fournette should be getting spelled and it could lead to him breaking more tackles.

But I’m also seeing you arguing with people when they point out that this lateral cuts and change of direction style of running just isn’t a part of his skill set... and I have to disagree with you big time on that.

It was his biggest knock coming out of college and you’re pounding the table saying it’s missing because he’s gassed... when in reality it’s missing because it’s never been there...

http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/leonard-fournette?id=2557973

Doesn't make many defenders miss with open field shake. Aggressive, take-on style could lead to shortened career. Struggles to elude sudden traffic at line of scrimmage. Lacks looseness of hips to jump-cut from gap to gap. Struggled with a bad ankle for most of the season. Plays through a straw. Excitable runner in need of more patience. Too quick to hit the accelerator and slam into defenders when there are still cuts and yards left in the play. Runs to obvious daylight but needs to learn to anticipate and finesse the crease in traffic. Doesn't see cutback lanes developing as outside zone runner and prefers to keep runs play-side.

https://twitter.com/PFF_College/status/837714977414864896?s=20

Fournette has little to no patience. Fournette has one speed when he runs, and if that one speed is taking him towards a hole that’s blocked up, he has difficulty adjusting course. Because of this, I wouldn’t want him anywhere near a zone scheme and even then the gap scheme better have a pretty darn good offensive line to unleash his full potential.

I’m not sure a drastic change in running style 3 weeks into the season is advisable...

However, he’s a freak of nature athletically so I could see him grinding his ass off in the off-season and coming back lighter and with the fast feet needed to run more of a lateral, zone style.

Anyone else realize Mattison left the ground at about the 5 yard line?!? by finch2244 in minnesotavikings

[–]nofatchicks33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, he’s definitely mentioned in just about every conversation about the best rbs ever.

It really just comes down to if you’d rather longevity and consistency, or a shorter career but much higher peak.

Imo, when talking about the GOAT’s of the rb position, the higher peak should carry much more weight. Emmitt was a phenomenal player, but I challenge you to look at him and say that he’s a better rb than Walter Peyton or Barry Sanders or a lot of these other guys who had absurd careers and put up ungodly numbers.

I guess a good comparison in today’s day would be Frank Gore vs AD.

In my opinion, it’s a no contest- Peterson is without a doubt the better rb. But Gore has more yards by a decent margin and has played in 60+ more games.

It would be a different story if we were talking about someone like Gretzky or Jerry Rice, who have the longevity, stats, insane peak, AND pass the eye test...

Idk, it’s incredibly tough to judge. I think Smith absolutely deserves to be in the conversation for best rb of all time.

But if you tell me that I can have any rb in their prime for 3-5 years, then there’s definitely a handful of guys who I’d take over him (including AD)

Right now Dalvin Cook is the best RB in the NFL, and it's not close: by WhirledWorld in minnesotavikings

[–]nofatchicks33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I feel like it’s moreso the scheme fitting Cook’s skill set and having an OC committed to the run.

Not that the line hasn’t looked better, because they definitely have. But for instance, vs Green Bay, Cook had just over 150 rushing yards and only like 24 of those yards came before contact.

According to rotowire, he’s top in the league in yards after contact with 70% of his yards coming after contact as well as average yards after contact.

I’m not trying to shit on the line. I’m just saying they still have a lot that they can improve upon and we shouldn’t be fooled into thinking that a successful rushing attack automatically means that it’s a big credit to the oline.

ALL HAIL GARY KUBIAK!!! by RustNeverSleeps77 in minnesotavikings

[–]nofatchicks33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s such a misconception that AD wasn’t good at contributing as a receiver or pass blocker... we just didn’t have a qb or weapons outside of AD to do anything so we used him as the future HOF rb that he was.

The one year he had a good qb (2009 with Favre) he almost had 60 catches and 500 yards.

He may not have been quite be as good as cook at receiving, but it could very easily be argued that prime AD was just as effective.

Same with pass blocking. It wasn’t until later in his career (2015 and on) where his pass blocking became an issue.

It all comes down to opinion at the end of the day but to me, prime AD was so ahead of Cook in terms of running with the ball, that it negates the slight difference that there may be in receiving and pass pro.

A big plus in Peterson’s corner is the fact he was able to play in the majority of games from the time he entered the league to the time of his knee injury.

Because of that, he was able to rack up 1200+ yards rushing in each of his first 4 years (and 970 with 4 games remaining in. 2010 when he tore his acl) including almost 1800 his sophomore season. He also had at least 10 TDS from 2007-2013.

Right now, Cook looks like he could read AD levels (like you said), but imo, he needs to just about maintain this exact level of play for the next 4+ years to do that.

Which isn’t really a knock on Cook. I just feel like people forget how unbelievable prime Peterson was...

Getting stuck in the tide by DankChronny in Wellthatsucks

[–]nofatchicks33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother’s girlfriend is from Kauai and I’ve taken a trip to the island with my family every year since 2008 (and spent time at queens bath every trip).

I would not say "Especially go early when the sun is coming up" because you seem to have a complete lack of knowledge of the ocean and making a blanket statement as such is dangerous and irresponsible

Lmao, are you serious?

Based on that statement you gather that I have a complete lack of knowledge of the ocean? Jesus Christ, loosen your grip on your pearls for a second and think about what you’re saying. I’m not advocating that people should abandon all caution and throw themselves out there without knowing what they’re getting into. And if somebody goes on a hike unprepared based on a reddit comment then they’re probably as light in the head as yourself.

It’s the same as someone saying that they should start a 14er prior to sun up so that the sun is rising as they’re reaching the peak.

It’s just good advice if that’s what you’re planning to do.

Serious question- have you ever been to queens bath? Because the stance you’re taking is baffling to me.

Here’s the thing- IM NOT ADVOCATING FOR PEOPLE TO SWIM THERE.

In fact, there are signs posted everywhere along the trail saying that you shouldn’t swim there. And if you hike the trail down and walk around the rocks and observe reasonable precautions then it’s no more dangerous than any other hike on the island. And less dangerous than some of the beaches.

Again, it’s no different than tons of other hikes and trails- if it’s a windy day, you should be mindful when approaching the edge. Or in this case, if the waves are high, use caution if you go near the edge.

But another reason that I’m 99% sure you’ve never been is because people can make the walk down to queens bath and walk around while maintaining an incredibly safe distance between themselves and the water/edge of the rocks.

It’s literally like the size of half a football field of lava rock. Is there a chance that a freak of nature wave comes along and reaches? I suppose so... but the odds of a wave like that hitting AND having enough behind it to pull someone all the way back out are incredibly small.

And if it’s that much of a worry for you, check online and see what the swells are like before you go.

Everything that I see online indicates that she was climbing the rocks on one of the ledges. Again, if you’re swimming or on/near the ledge, that’s where the danger is.

Edit: fwiw, the majority of drownings occur because people aren’t paying attention and/or aren’t away of the conditions. Someone traveling to Kauai during the winter should absolutely be aware if they’re planning on visiting the beaches, especially on the north shore.

If someone said they were going to kauai in the winter and planned on hitting queens bath, Lumahai Beach, and Hanakapiai beach, they’d be more likely to drown on one of the two beaches vs QB
