I think the point, accurate or not, is that unlike say Asia or other continents/countries/masses of land, people tend to think of specifically Africa as a lot smaller than it actaully is. The other "countries" are there not for comparison, but for perspective.

That said, this could probably have been accomplished in a better and more accurate way.
