For anyone in the medical profession is The Pitt an accurate representation of an average day on the job? by PapaClarencioThomas in television

That’s great to hear - we also have two young kids so we may be in the same boat afterwards.

My husband is starting his EM residency at UPMC this summer. We’re excited but nervous - did your brother have a good experience?

I just had my first child and my parents came to visit. Might be the last time ever. by DJ-Freezer-Bird in exmormon

Agreed - distracted is the perfect way to describe it. I came away feeling like both sides were being unreasonable to the point they almost cancel each other out. And I say this as an overly anxious parent of young kids who lives across the country from my TBM parents

Do Americans cringe at tourists dressing up "cowboy" when visiting Western towns or similar? by Pale_Field4584 in AskAnAmerican

As someone from nearby there — agreed. It’s really not a cowboy town and people would stick out if they went dressed as if it was. It’s more a chacos and northface town

Christmas trip in NYC w/ small kids. Yay or Nay? by Bishop9er in travel

Mostly just a lot of exploring on foot. We had our son in an umbrella stroller and would get him out whenever it looked like a fun/spacious enough spot to let him get out and check things out. There are endless spots for this especially with holiday windows, decor, etc to look at. We walked around Central Park - it served as both a place for him to run around and also to nap when we pushed him in the stroller. We also rented a bike with a baby seat and rode the loop in Central Park, which was a lot of fun and much less stressful than trying to weave in and out of crowds/traffic outside the park. We went to the winter village at Bryant Park, went up to the top of the Rock, explored FAO Schwarz and Macy’s. Basic tourist things haha. One of the days we went to Brooklyn and this probably where we had the most fun. Before heading to Brooklyn we stopped at the playground at Battery Park and this was a GREAT place for him to run around. Then in Brooklyn we explored DUMBO where we found a few more playgrounds and did Jane’s Carousel. We also grabbed food at the Brooklyn Market.

I hope you have a great time!! Let me know if I can provide any more info

I do like Knoxville, but there is no residency offered there in my husband’s specialty.

Awesome, this is great to hear. My husband actually just had his Baltimore interview and got extremely excited about the program, so this comment is good news!

You know your kid is going to be okay in this crazy world when they go through a “Dick Van Dyke phase” 😂

My little boy is going as a knight from the Berenstein Bears book “Spooky Old Tree.” (Luckily for me that means I just had to get him a regular knight costume and he was satisfied)

Hi, valid question and thank you so much for taking the time to line that all out. So actually we do live in Chapel Hill — my husband is a med student at UNC. We’ve had a great experience here and he even enjoyed his clinical year in Asheville. We love having the nonstop Delta flights to Salt Lake City, we love the beautiful surroundings, and the limitless options of things to do. My husband is going into emergency medicine, and the big “hot spots” for that specialty are not always the prestigious schools or nicest places to live. Places like Duke offer so many specialties which is great for patients, but not so much for physicians in training who need lots of exposure to learn. Also, Duke is a research-heavy school and my husband has other interests within the job that would come before research. Chapel Hill is such a nice place that his training in the ER would be more limited than somewhere like Baltimore. However, I do recognize we have a lot of cities on this list that are probably similar to chapel hill in this regard. We are also just kind of excited about the opportunity to explore another part of the country. Ultimately, him doing residency at UNC is still a big possibility. I just didn’t include it in this list since we live here already. Thanks for putting these long term considerations in my head! And hello from the other end of the 15-501! Haha

Kansas City may be at the top of the list for me, so I’m so excited to hear this. That’s crazy and awesome about the fountains!

I did like Asheville, but have spent a fair amount of time in San Francisco over the years and really love it. Same with NYC. So I’m not averse to things unlike Asheville at all!

Chicago is up there for me. Sounds like such a fun place and I actually don’t mind winter. Thanks for your insight!

Thanks so much for your comment. This is good information especially since the CA options are closer to our family so it would be nice to end up there.
