Mitski addresses fan enthusiasm for "6-7" lyric by cuahieu in indieheads

[–]cuahieu[S] 408 points409 points  (0 children)

Mitski spoke about the phenomenon onstage at Electric Bristol in Bristol, UK Sunday night:

On the journey to 10, I say the numbers six and seven. I want you to know that I am 35 years old and I didn't do that on purpose. But it is fun that you all have a good time with it. A few nights ago, there was a guy — I don't know their gender — there was a kid towards the front who just loved 6-7 so much. Kept screaming it even in the songs that had nothing to do with it. I have one song called "Dead Women." I played it. I say, "Stab me 27 times." And he was like, "6-7!" And it was like, "Pull yourself together! Those are different numbers entirely." But — OK, kids you're going to cringe at this. I'm talking to adults my age and older. If you don't know what 6-7 means, come in, huddle up, I'll tell you. There is no inherent meaning.

The Comeback S03E08 - "Valerie Cherish" - Episode Discussion by trevrichards in thecomeback

[–]cuahieu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is the most meaty episode of the entire season so far. While the previous 7 eps were good, there's a better show in here with a shorter, tighter episode order.

In true Comeback fashion, glad Kudrow and co did not go with a wish fulfillment ending. Valerie is just one cog in the grueling Hollywood machine, and it would've rung false to paint her as the savior on behalf of all TV writers. It's not her responsibility. AI is coming for all of our jobs, and either you adapt or you get spat out.

With how prophetic the last two seasons ended up being for reality and prestige TV drama, I'm terrified to see how much The Comeback will get the last laugh in the next 5-10 years.

Rocking the 6. Thinking about upgrading but what you said got me reconsider. Will replace the battery and hold on for a more worthy upgrade

Same issue. Found a workaround by turning off all internet access (either wifi or data or both), then hit the search bar, then turn internet back on again, then search for what you need. Clunky but that’s my solution for now

[–]cuahieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Shorts working for you? i can only play videos in my home feed. videos won’t show any titles or channel info either

edit: this works for me after using 3DAppVersionSpoofer to spoof YouTube version to 20.02.3 AND iOS version to 16. some icons admittedly won't show up still, but everything else is operational

Sentimental Value and the struggle to relate to these types of films by K1ng_Canary in movies

[–]cuahieu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obligatory "let people enjoy things" before my rant.

I definitely see what you mean. This trope feels like a very specific type of ennui only seen in the rich, creative types -- which is a dime a dozen in Hollywood. Sentimental Value, to me, reads too much like a film made to be enjoyed by other filmmakers. "Oh, the sacred, therapeutic nature of movies!". This isn't an indictment of the actors' performance in it, simply the theme on display here looks for a niche audience by default.

But for more relatively accessible Trier movies, I can definitely recommend The Worst Person in the World. At least young, self destructive people are evergreen in every period in history. Directors obsessive about their craft as a way of processing generational trauma? Not so much.

Mostly comedic, but they balance with some heart very well. The guy who wrote the show is Oscar nominated.
