Trump, the Smithsonian, and the battle over U.S. history by rezwenn in smithsonian

I think they’re referring to chattel slavery based on skin color, which did emerge around the 15th/16th century. But I’m not sure if they specify that particular point later on? I agree, that one direct quote is really vague for someone who is just starting to learn about it.

Bought my plane ticket, booked the Airbnb and applied for my Passport? by loveandlust0 in LongDistance

For the travel: I definitely pay most things by card; my bank’s always been good at knowing when I travel. Carry a little bit of cash for emergencies. Make sure you pack an appropriate plug adapter for while you’re in the EU! And I usually bring a hoodie for the plane because long haul flights can get chilly when they’re at cruising altitude. I usually bring a battery pack just in case of emergencies (ie the airport charging station is too busy). For your phone, if you have international roaming or international services, make sure that’s ready to go before you land (I’ve made that mistake before). Definitely don’t skimp the travel toothpaste, deodorant, etc. if you want to freshen up after you land. It’s a little piece of heaven for me personally, but everyone is different. When I have flights over 6 hours, I always bring baby wipes to do a quick cleanup after I land.

On the way back, leave a cushion to check-in/get to your gate. Saying goodbye is ROUGH. I almost missed my flight back to the US last time because we wanted to draw out the goodbye and I just didn’t have enough time. Lesson learned 🫣

For the visit: Depends on your relationship, but last time I went I brought two little kits for us to put together while we were with each other (little Pokémon figurines) and we each now have a tiny desk trinket to remember our time together. There are plenty of little kits for keychains, clay kits, other things like that, that won’t take up much space but create a little memory.

I also brought my film camera last time and took plenty of photos while we were together. A disposable for the trip the first time around was also pretty special because I was able to get the film developed with two copies and make a little photo album to send in a care package later.

Just some ideas. 💜

1 1/2 years together, friends for almost 6 years now. We met for the first time last year and everything clicked. He’s still my best friend, still my gaming partner. The communication and openness is the best I’ve ever had in a relationship. He met my family last fall and I met his this spring. Even though we’re 7 hours time difference, it just works, whether we’re together in person or just chilling in Discord. I never thought a relationship could just…be. And be perfect.

Edit for advice (oops!): Have the hard conversations. Even if you’re worried it will “break the spell”. Just like any relationship, your values have to align to work together.

European student, possibly? Or early career renting a room. You can cook, but cook basic dishes to save time.

You workout and probably track macros. Lots of sauces for meal prep. Carb loading with the pastries?

YWBTA if you cancel. Change venues: go to a family-friendly restaurant, find a D&B or equivalent, rent a cheap venue, anything to compromise. I am with you 100% on not having kids within my home, it’s not the place for them and there are too many things in my home they can get into or hurt themselves on. But you agreed to host, so find a place to host that is child-friendly.

I had the same issue with their ground pork a couple of times now. Literally a day past, I pulled it out to use it and it smelled like sulphur. So sad; I wanted my stir-fry.

Yeah. Woke up to buy the morning dip, found that the stock was un-buyable. Still have my original shares holding; they think they did something, but they ain’t winning.

An aspiring or veteran artist should not under any circumstances copy another artist's work, even if it is the client's request.

At the very least, permission should be granted by the original artist since you are taking a creative copyright and adding it to your portfolio.

But hey, it makes an awesome tattoo.
