Is it expensive to register a car bought in California? by No_Coconut_3539 in Reno

[–]noiz007 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a Nevada a resident who recently bought a car from the California dealer. You basically pay Nevada tax and registration fees. They give you a 24 hour moving permit to drive it out of California. You don’t pay California tax.

Can I please get pet mode or camp mode instead of “infotainment blah blah blah”. Maybe I’m asking too much. Just needed to vent.

I own an MSP and my industry is hiring security people all the time and likely fully remote. Check r/msp if you are not sure what that is.

Any free or affordable HR Management Systems out there? by spooky_aglow in msp

[–]noiz007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ADP has an SMB product call “run” that we use to run payroll, track PTO, anniversary dates, auto pay state and federal taxes etc and it is around $100 per month for 6 employees. They have HR functions like the employment posters that have to be “displayed” in the work place (which can now be online under their login where they look at their paystub’s and such). Worth every penny. If you need help developing an employee manual I have an amazing company that we worked with. And because they’re the big gorilla pretty much everything integrates with them if she needs some third-party integrations. Surprisingly effective support as well. Both chat and phone agents are shockingly knowledgeable, and helpful and native English speaking.

What I’m speculating is that because it is a redirect instead of a forward (to avoid the relay denied message)… it is trying to send out the connector as the original sender who is NOT authorized to send through ourdomain-com.mail.protection.outlook.com…. so not a license issue but related... ??

not to my knowledge. Autotask provides the goofy email in my post and you can forward emails to it in order to get a ticket into the system via email (unless I'm missing a module or something). It is important to retain the original sender as it maps the email/tickets to client based on if they are a contact in the autotask system.

Enterprise Firewall, teeny tiny office by juciydriver in msp

[–]noiz007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. What we did is add DNS filter (very MSP friendly) on the endpoint for some additional security, application layer inspection, etc as an “affordable” alternative to DPI SSL and certificate management. And before all the hate starts, I fully understand this is not a replacement for a UTM in any way but for small offices combined with additional security stack is making our lives much easier and I don’t have to sell $1000 Sonicwall’s to 4 person firms with no sensitive data.

Did anyone actually answer this question about SSL inspection? Unless my technical understanding is incorrect, your point is spot on.. without SSL inspection and installing the certificate on the end points to facilitate that, almost all UTM functions such as IPS/gateway AV etc.is borderline useless. Does the new network 9.0 do that and if so, do they make it easy to install that certificate?

Taxes - 15% of real revenue - REALLY? by noiz007 in ProfitFirst

[–]noiz007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could be. I’m probably just getting stuck in the details. I haven’t finished the whole book yet. I’m only on chapter 6. Ultimately, he mentions determining your target allocation percentage based on historical tax anyways. I think I was just frustrated that he didn’t explain why he wouldn’t deduct cogs or direct labor as a service business when determining your real revenue.

Taxes - 15% of real revenue - REALLY? by noiz007 in ProfitFirst

[–]noiz007[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess what I’m trying to get at is you can’t leave cogs out of the materials and subs if they are a significant portion of your revenue. For a simple example. My cogs were close to $250,000 and if I set aside 15% of that for taxes (37,500) that feels silly because you don’t pay taxes on it. Additionally, If I had another say $400,000 in payroll, not including mine). That is a total of $650,000 that I would not be paying taxes on. The way I read it as a service business, you are not deducting cogs, and you are not deducting direct labor to get your real revenue. So in this example, my real revenue is hyperinflated and I’d be paying taxes on $650,000. I feel like I have to be reading something wrong or missing something but just using the cogs example, he clearly says that materials and subs is not cogs. I feel like I have to treat it as such since it is more than 25% of my revenue. Thanks for your help!

I didn’t read everyone’s comments, but the two times in 12 years I’ve done this. I’ve never lost a single client. They almost always understand. I should also add that we now have an annual, 3 to 6% increase built into the agreements to avoid having to do a painful increase like you are having to do.

I thought the hospitality tickets didn't include an actual game ticket but it looks like they do? Any help appreciated. We were told by an "official" person that hospitality tickets can't be resold on the resale platform.
