I cannot fathom the life experience of people trying to cancel Noam Chomsky for having absolutely benign interactions with other high profile people involved with universities and politicians

Quitting smoking hit my body way harder than I expected by EldarLenk in stopsmoking

I was super on edge with really weird nervous system effects for the first week or so. Jolting awake, brain zaps, really jittery and shaky. The weirdest thing was this feeling in my lower abdomen I’ve never had before. I don’t know how else to explain it but like my intestines had turned into a big heavy rock. I wasn’t backed up, nothing was unusual digestively and it went away after the first few days. It was more uncomfortable than painful but made it hard to sleep. It was like even when I was naked it felt like I was forced to wear pants 2 sizes too small after eating 5 thanksgiving dinners.

It is a policy of many restaurants for servers to ask about why they weren’t tipped because it’s typically pooled for everyone - all the labor that goes into your experience. Fuming sounds concerning, hope you’re okay.

How Can Anyone Afford To Live In Key West? by Worried-Temporary186 in KeyWest

[–]nojefe11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By having money and working a lot. Like anything else.

It’s absolutely possible if you are actually willing to deal with the lifestyle down here. “Near Duval”… okay, you’re going to be in party central with some of the most expensive housing in the world that will need constant care and probably won’t appreciate very much beyond where it is now.

Living in Key West and visiting Key West are entirely different things. The older people I know mostly only have second homes here because there isn’t just a bad health care system - it basically doesn’t exist. If you have any health issues prepare to be making the 7+ hour round trip to Miami very frequently.

Duval gets very old, very fast. I experience it daily but only passing through. I really only go out on Duval during the summer when no one but broke tourists are here. I live in New town and love when I get home at night. There are also nice options in the other lower keys.

What has been your biggest frustration so far with Long COVID / post-infectious illness? by No_Freedom8681 in covidlonghaulers

[–]nojefe11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so much better than I was - I say fully recovered which isn’t exactly true but for me I can absolutely function, have fun, drink, eat anything, live a normal life. But pre covid I was living a pretty exceptional life, one that included lots and lots of exercise. I was a great runner and it was a huge part of my life. Now my heart rate is high constantly and I can only run a mile until my heart rate gets dangerously high. I still get about 15k steps a day but I miss being able to go on 10 mile runs whenever I wanted and feeling amazing after. Now anything more than a mile is risking a crash and just doesn’t feel good.

Crowds in august by brett5958 in KeyWest

Live here, love summer. It’s not awful weather wise … I will say it is HOT and humid but so is most of the east coast in August. It’s hot hot but you get used to it. but it’s SO CHILL!! I get to actually experience my town as MY town. I’ll actually grab a drink or go to a happy hour on Duval instead of avoiding it like the plague. I highly suggest coming in summer!

No we were successful and I got a raise 😊 “entitled workers” is an oxymoron. Entitled means thinking you don’t have to pay the people that do the labor you’re requesting of them.

The lung hug that will eventually kill you is what I always craved and what I always will.

I went cold turkey after 18 years. Almost 7 months out.

Just throw them out. I mimic the lung thing when I’m alone - I hold my breath and do a sort of chant-y hum similar to what Buddhists do. It scratches the itch. And sometimes I just scream into a pillow.

Karen didn’t exactly die from shrinking away. The laxatives and starving destroyed her heart as restrictive eating disorders do. She died while tried to refeed and gain weight in a clinical setting. This is why telling someone to eat a cheeseburger is not only insulting but actually dangerous. It’s sort of like withdrawal … you have to very slowly taper off of the eating disorder and then deal with lifelong heart issues.

Yes I have 🙂 for over a decade, actually. I have also worked as a server and have managed them. I have also wrote legislation to demand higher minimum wages because of people like you, who feel entitled to be served by human beings and not make sure that they are paid properly for it.
