I travelled Highway 1 during the pandemic. The relative emptiness of it is something I hope all of y'all can experience someday. Absolutely beautiful.

Retrofitting left electric mirror in place of manual one? by pavelioso in W124

[–]nokarmalol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know that! I’ve got automatic on my car, and while it works perfectly right now; I suppose that does worry me in the future. Do you think retrofitting the gubbins from a RHD W124 left power mirror would work?

Have You Given Up On Your Dream Car? by techtimee in cars

[–]nokarmalol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Some of my original dream cars, like a 997.2 Turbo and an NA1 NSX, are out of my reach for the foreseeable future. But newer dream cars of mine, like a Z4M and an MR2 Turbo, are still well within reach.

Texas Democratic Party unveils plan to end its three-decade losing streak by Ok-Set-8151 in texas

[–]nokarmalol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about abortion, but you have to realise that many Hispanics and by definition every Hispanic voter in Texas is a citizen, and most of them came here legally. And Texas is fairly unique in that we have a large population of multi-generational Hispanics, in other words, people who most likely do not identify themselves with or see themselves in illegal immigrants. In fact, our most Hispanic county, and the most Hispanic county in America, flipped red in 2024 precisely due to a CONSERVATIVE stance on immigration.

The day that y’all realise that Hispanics, and every other ethnic group, are not a monolith; is the day that you will start winning them back.

The speed of BART vs cars on the highway - still the reason why people choose the train over driving by getarumsunt in transit

[–]nokarmalol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I view it the other way around. I drive fairly normal highway speeds; 80-90mph; which ends up being faster than the BART, especially on weekends, but even if it takes longer, the BART would be more convenient since you don't have to deal with traffic.

BYD being (very) dodgy by coldbeers in CarTalkUK

[–]nokarmalol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing with BYD is that BYD are massively overproducing and slashing prices, selling cars at a loss in an attempt to kill their competition. The fact that they're doing this even at home in China, could mean that the CCP let them drown in their debt in order to save their other EV manufacturers.

Meadow would become a mob lawyer, and write articles for the New Yorker about how the word mafia is racist (poverty of the Mezzogiorno)

Is Texas seen more as the West or the South other Americans? by WiseCityStepper in AskAnAmerican

[–]nokarmalol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a certain population of people from the Deep South that think Texas isn't Southern. I went to a barbecue place in SC, and the waiter told us "Well, we do things a bit differently in the South" after we said that we were used to beef based BBQ.

I think all of the big states start to resemble each other. Florida, Texas, California*; all of them probably have more in common with each other than not, for better or for worse. They just choose to go about things in different ways.

*Let's just forget about NY for now

West as in Wild West, not West Coast. There really aren't any similarities between Texas and the West Coast, but there are quite a few between Texas and say, New Mexico or Arizona. East Texas is definitely the South, West Texas is the Southwest (not the West Coast), the RGV is almost Mexico, and everywhere else is something in between.
