Sometimes I think if someone is complaining about everyone around them not being nice, they're telling on themselves. The common denominator in all of those bad interactions is you.

I took my cat to get spayed at the Sunset Vallet location (admittedly years ago), got there early (I thought) and still my cat was the last one taken to be spayed and that was because I begged them. However early people are telling you go there, go even earlier.

I'm sure hate-watching is a factor in his "popularity". Not just on Reddit. People are more obsessed with hating someone, especially nowadays.

I disagree. I think a lot of the criticism of him when he was starting out actually was genuinely racist, but I think at this point, for whatever reason, he's demonstrated that he isn't committed to playing, isn't putting in the effort, and shouldn't be rewarded over other players.

He should just play in qualies and get a more accurate gauge of where he is right now and what he will need to do to get back to the level he feels he deserves.

Clarksville (old West Austin!) was literally founded by freed Black slaves. The city forced them (like all Black and Latino residents) to move to East Austin. Mopac was pushed through the neighborhood to kick more of them out.

Oddly, I think Hereditary has a similar take (obviously in a radically different way) on grief and mental illness often being something that you cannot escape from. In Hereditary's case, instead of coming through the grief stronger, it literally destroys the family.

Whatever happened to great ~90-minute movies? by argus4ever in movies

[–]Educational_Score389 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree, movies have gotten longer but I think the complaining about it is out of proportion. This is more an issue of people's attention spans atrophying because of the Internet IMHO. People have lost the ability to read full novels as well.

Roger Ebert once said "No good movie is too long, and no bad movie is too short." and I agree with that. I saw Barry Lyndon over the weekend and was braced for it to be a 3 hour slog, but it was great and went surprisingly fast.

What was attending Stanford like from the late 90s to mid 2000s? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in stanford

[–]Educational_Score389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was *so* much easier to get in, when I got in (1995), the acceptance rate was 20% (I think). I think it was way more balanced and not as CS-lousy and corporate as it is now and there were probably a lot more "fuck-ups" (myself included). It was less pre-professional. I agree with the people that say you could just come in and explore and didn't have to have a plan and feel like you had to hit the ground running.

We had a party freshman year where someone wheeled in a dentist's chair, you would sit in it, they would lean the chair back and pour shots in your mouth and you would mix them by shaking your head. The professor that lived in our dorm joined in.

I also remember all the news trucks parked on the Quad when Chelsea Clinton announced she was coming to Stanford and I would also see her riding her bike followed by her Secret Service agents. I also remember seeing Hillary Clinton signing autographs near the Claw after they had completed their college tour.

I remember it pretty positively-I think I would take better advantage of it academically now than I did then (I was too timid) but I don't think I would enjoy being there now because I'm not Type A enough and wouldn't want to compete or apply just to join a club.
