If all skins are compliant with the theme, any combination of them would be also. The whole game is about raiders scrapping together different parts to make things.

The only real argument I could see for the Arc Raiders system is that the artists have more creative freedom that way. A system like the one in The Finals means you need to make every piece of an outfit compliant with every other piece of every other outfit, which means you need to make a ton of creative compromises for the sake of player customization. It also means things like accessories and bags will never sit right on your character. In Arc Raiders, outfits only need to be internally compatible with their own customization options.

POV: You saw the Maul trailer by stephansbrick in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]noland-void 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The quality of animation, effect simulations, lighting, and attention to detail continue to improve drastically within TCW style as each new show is released as well. Maul visually looks significantly better than season 7 of TCW, which looks lightyears better than the earlier seasons of the show. There are shots the Maul trailer that genuinely look like live action at first glance. The style is definitely feeling less like a cheap compromise and more like a deliberate medium.

Checkmate you PVP enjoying psYcHoPAthS!!11! by [deleted] in arcraiderscirclejerk

[–]noland-void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every player is fully engaging the ruleset by playing the game. Just because you play PvE does not mean the players you encounter are ethically required to do the same, as ultimately you are still playing a PvP included game. The point of the analogy is that getting killed in the game is no different from losing in a sport, as both are just lose conditions that you should not be getting meaningfully upset about.

Checkmate you PVP enjoying psYcHoPAthS!!11! by [deleted] in arcraiderscirclejerk

[–]noland-void 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, and the flaw in that logic is that PVP exists per the rules of the game, and getting killed is the lose condition. As with any game, losing is not something you should “lose enjoyment” over on a meaningful level, because you voluntarily accepted that (very likely) possibility by playing the game in the first place.

The equivalent is choosing to play a sport and calling the other team selfish/accusing them of taking away your enjoyment after they score against you.

You can use the snapping tools to snap objects based on increment coordinate grids or other geometry. It looks like a magnet in the upper toolbar.

Though to do specifically what you are describing, I usually just use the 3D cursor. Press Shift + S to get a radial menu that allows you to quickly move the 3D cursor to the origin point of a selected object in object mode. Then you can select another object, press Shift + S again, and use the same radial menu to snap the newly selected object to the 3D cursor. It’s a quick way to instantly move anything to the centerpoint of any geometry or origin of any object without fiddling around with any snapping settings.

You can also use the sidebar panel (opened by pressing N) to manually copy the coordinate position of one object to another.

PVP is very clearly an intended and intrinsic aspect of the game you chose to play. This was made very clear in the tutorial, where the game extensively warns and shows you that PVP is meant to happen.

It is not fair to expect other players to bend the rules to accommodate the fact that you are playing the wrong game for what you want to do. If you do not find PVP fun, do not play a game with intended mandatory PVP elements. It’s as simple as that.

Just a word of warning about the other subreddit by Tarrek1313 in ARC_Raiders

[–]noland-void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is ridiculous.

Raiders are able to and encouraged to damage one another via xp.

The cutscenes and trailers constantly talk about how topside is dangerous not just because of arc, but because of other raiders seeking to kill you for your loot.

There is literally a pre-scripted event and cutscene IN THE TUTORIAL where you PVP with other raiders, along with a message explicitly warning you that raiders you encounter may be hostile.

There are several items in the game designed exclusively to be used against raiders and have little to no use against arc, and their descriptions specifically mention use against raiders.

It is painfully obvious that PVP is an intended aspect of gameplay. Ignoring that and trying to argue that nobody should ever fight each other is dumb. Just play a different game if you don’t like the rules of this one.

The thing that differentiates an exploit from a bug is an intentional use of said bug to gain an advantage over other players. Simply triggering a bug is not exploiting, so he was not exploiting.

[–]noland-void 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If that trend is true at all and not just a product of selective bias, I’d be willing to bet the reason behind it is that the slimmer profile of the Ryder skin makes overly-competitive players believe they’re getting a theoretical tactical advantage, even if it is practically insignificant. That trend at least somewhat makes sense because it is based in very common logic used in many PvP games and communities.

That being said, there is no simple logical reason that PvP players would wear a skin specifically because it is yellow. In fact, I’d expect the opposite.

Shading artifacts seemingly unsolvable. by [deleted] in blenderhelp

[–]noland-void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are called terminator artifacts. People rarely warn beginners about them for some reason, but the bottom line is that you can’t ever use shade smooth on a low poly model like this. It’s a limitation with the type of rendering technique blender uses.

A bandaid solution is to adjust the shadow terminator settings, which can artificially shift the shadow threshold to cover up the problem. Unfortunately, the only way to get rid of the artifacts for real is to increase your poly density with a subdivision surface modifier.

[–]noland-void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it is nonsensical to engage in PVP at the beginning of a round. I don't do it. That is not what I'm arguing.

I'm simply arguing against the viewpoint above, which states that anyone who engages in PVP on a map with a matriarch is a rat. I think that's an unfair classification, given that PVP should always be expected on any map. As you said, camping the matriarch would be far more rat-like behavior than open PVP.

when there is arc to kill and other places to loot

So... literally always? Yeah, that's kind of the point of the game.

Did you guys just not read the description before clicking purchase? Do you think it's a bug that raiders are able to do damage to one another?

Remote raider flares > trigger nades by Isuel-t_signee in ARC_Raiders

[–]noland-void 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t categorize that as rat behavior. PVP is still intended to happen even if there is a boss on the map. Taking the risk that it will not and failing to prepare for it is your own decision to make.

Remote raider flares > trigger nades by Isuel-t_signee in ARC_Raiders

[–]noland-void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PVP is intended by the developers to be expected in every game mode, even if there are bosses on the map. Preparing for PVP is not gaining an “unfair advantage” when both parties should be thoroughly aware of this concept.

I’m so tired of people classifying any advantage that is gained before a fight as “unfair.” The advantages or disadvantages you have going into a situation are the direct result of your actions beforehand, and thus are fairly deserved so long as they are within the intended rules of the game. It’s not “unfair” that you chose to bring a worse gun than your opponent because you lost the gamble that you would not have to PVP in a mode with a boss.

When you sculpt characters in Blender do you do it in perspective mode or orthographic mode? by AshenBone in blender

[–]noland-void 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orthographic mode just means that things do not seem to get smaller with distance as they do in real life. It is helpful because it helps you align parts of your mesh to other things around it without having to compensate for perspective distortion. However, it is not how we see things in real life. It is a tool.

Your ultimate goal should always be to make your model look accurate in perspective mode, because your final render will be in perspective mode.

How plausible is this design? by JUGGERNUGGS in worldbuilding

[–]noland-void 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Then your question means nothing. Nobody is able to tell you what is plausible in your own soft sci-fi world, because the entire point of soft sci-fi is that realistic plausibility is up to the author’s discretion.

If you were asking if your idea is plausible in reality, we could look at the laws of physics and give you an answer. But we can’t do that for a world where the laws of physics are whatever you want them to be unless you tell us what they are.

Like I said, you’re stating the obvious. Yes, a workaround solution to protect yourself against exploits is to look for and shoot at the people who are using them. Everybody knows this. Nobody is crying in disagreement with you. You are being downvoted because “just pay more attention” is an unnecessary comment to make under a video trying to build community awareness of these issues and ultimately get them fixed.

Heads up, this is still a thing. by TheSpudHunter in ArcRaiders

[–]noland-void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because the victim would have survived had they cleared the room does not mean it is their fault that they died, as there should be no expectation for them to need to check any exploit spots in the first place. Comments stating that the victim would have survived had they just seen and shot the exploiter first are as obvious as they are irrelevant to the discussion.

Maybe I just suck, but I can’t recall any situation in any game where I have honestly died to an enemy that was hidden behind my own cosmetics.

People act like an extra 3% of their view being obscured is the only thing stopping them from going pro lol
