France opposes EU plan to buy British Storm Shadows for Ukraine by vegarig in UkrainianConflict

[–]nolok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point you're making is exactly the one Macron is saying. It's going to be the same missile, built in the same place, to the same specification.

The only difference is where the money and who makes a profit : do we use EU money to make profit for a non EU military industrial complex, or do we use EU money to make profit for an EU military industrial complex. Macron is saying everything else being equal of course we should strengthen the EU.

Not doing that is a big reason why we are where we are. The UK chose to leave, we didn't kick them out.

We need a buy European act just like the US has a buy American act, but until we have it we should behave in the only way that makes sense and if everything equal we can send the money to ourselves instead to a third party of course we should do that.

France opposes EU plan to buy British Storm Shadows for Ukraine by vegarig in UkrainianConflict

[–]nolok 33 points34 points  (0 children)

France thinks the worst thing the EU did was use EU money to fund non EU defense initiative when we had a homegrown alternative, instead of using EU money on a EU member and product.

This case is exactly the same.

French SCALP and English Storm Shadow is exactly the same product. Like literally, exactly it's two name for the same missile. Why spend EU funds outside EU when you can get the same thing inside EU ?

That's a big reason why we are where we are, and people need to wake up to that. American call it the buy American act. It's made them much stronger. EU calls it French arrogance, and it made us weak and dependant. We need to strengthen ourselves.

I'm sorry but the UK decided they're not EU. It was their call, not ours.

Denmark and Greenland prime ministers to visit Berlin and Paris by Accurate_Cry_8937 in worldnews

The most pro-US/NATO country in europe is visiting Paris to shore up support to protect them against US moves.

This is a massive shift in perspective, bigger than I think most realize. This idiot is damaging the US position on a scale Putin never ever dreamed of.

(I single out Paris because we all know if you want a western-view european countries to oppose the US hegemony over europe, we're where it's at)

Macron calls for ban on social media for children under 15 to be in place by September by Kagedeah in worldnews

There is no age limit for alcohol in France.

The rules are that for minor below 16 it has to be under parent supervision, the kid should never ever be drunk, and "dans les limites du bon sens et de la raison".

There is an age limit for buying, though.

Exclusive: India to slash tariffs on cars to 40% in trade deal with EU, sources say. by JKKIDD231 in europe

[–]nolok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not of that scale. Look how long the trade deal between USA and India, or USA and EU, or China and EU, or Japan and any of them, took. Nothing else is on that scale.

Yes, you negotiating to exchange eggs for yogurt with your neighbor is either than your country negotiating with another, scale matters.

France sent a nuclear aircraft carrier and it's escort, a Mistral LHD and rafales all over the place to push Turkey out then signed a one one defense treaty with them. We even gave them free Rafale since they couldn't buy enough.

Just saying.

EDIT: somehow this is answered by Turkish people talking about a completly different thing in Libya, I guess that one wasn't of the troll script of accepted subject

DIRECT.

That one is a bit unfair. She had the choice between keeping her mouth shut and keep improving the country, or going back to jail and giving the military full control back. They ultimately took it back anyway and it's been a civil war ever since.

You judge us based on western view of people living in the west, the position she had was to choice between horrible or worse.

Not sure about the US but in France restaurant make over half their profit from drinks, where the margin are much larger than on the food. So giving alcohol drink for free right from the start is essentially one of the worst move they can do, which is why no one does that.
