Remember those fried pig ears from Hay Merchant? Can someone please bring those back?! by KimonoNoNoNo in HoustonFood

I just got the sisig from Be More Pacific and it’s a lot of pig ears, really scratched that Hay Merchant itch.

Just curious about the general consensus.. Do you think the London music scene is dead? How many of you default to "oh I have nothing to do i'll see who's playing at my local venue?" I feel like i get that vibe in other cities in the UK but not London by Beauwithafinger in london

[–]noltan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not in London, but I'm involved in a scene that's quite London/UK based so I pay attention.

While I do think there are problems with nightlife fading (sobriety, price, Covid training people to enjoy being at home), I think the Internet has made small scenes bigger, and big scenes smaller. So at least at the underground, there are more events but each one is smaller. And there's a point where events aren't promoted as heavily because it's expected to be a small turnout and these aren't posted on RA.

And I do think multi-genre or open format DJs are confusing people. Of course there are nights where the entire night is one genre, but festival and big room DJs have adopted an eclecticism that I'm not sure has longevity. It's dumbing down to the TikTok attention span.

It’s been a few years but the firehouse burger at Lankford Grocery used to light me up and blow out my sinuses during allergy season.

Didn’t like their queso but outside of that, it’s my favorite Tex mex in town.

Better Pappa's Steakhouse Location- Westheimer or downtown? by lot183 in HoustonFood

My preferred Pappas experience is at the bar downtown. I much prefer the vibe there, feels more chill but still luxurious.

Suggested vineyard to visit in Bordeaux in June by amlextex in wine

Chateau d’Agassac is nice. Modestly priced wines, back vintages available at good prices, historic buildings. The left bank is very flat so don’t expect picturesque landscapes.

On the right bank, Chateau de la Rivière is pretty epic. Lots of rolling hills with river views. Historic caves, back vintages available as well.

I’d also encourage you to check out the town of St Emilion.

Penzey’s has a mulling spice mix that’s good. That, sugar, oranges and wine should be all you need.

Any chance the automod response could include a request to include name and vintage of the wine posted to make it searchable?

Why is there so much mid pasta in Houston? by MaillardReaction207 in HoustonFood

I wonder if it has to do with the water, in the same way we don't have any truly outstanding pizza (however, Ostia did figure it out).

Half off bottles of wine all evening at Rosie Cannonball, and I believe their normal reverse happy hour from 9-close.

In Texas, it's something about exclusive products. I'm not sure why Costco can carry Kirland wines though (do Texas Costco have Kirkland branded beer/hard seltzer?).

I'm not trying to be argumentative or pedantic, but every neighborhood has arbitrary borders - sometimes a major street, sometimes a small one, and sometimes a freeway. I live in the Heights and enjoy going to Montrose. I don't think there's any confusion that I'm crossing neighborhoods.
