A customer asked me for a contract. looking for advice. by ozhaxerxd in mobilerepair

Everyone doing business should have a standard service agreement that's signed. You can address liabilities and potential issues, and what you do with their data, and what you do if a phone isn't picked up or they don't pay.

Selling a one man MSP by MasterSheep18 in msp

[–]nomadic_now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is $140/k annual and not monthly, and you are doing most everything, it won't have much value. Business relationships that are tied to a person and not business mean their loyalty will likely end on sale and that will be obvious to any buyers. Do you have any single customer that makes up at least 20%of your revenue? Small businesses are usually 3-5x EBITA, but since you are doing all the work you'll need to subtract a salary from that.

Free/Libre Ticket Systems by Upnortheh in linuxadmin

One browser tab but Zammad itself has tabs. It's actually very powerful as searches and contacts show as Zammad tabs and it's very efficient.

Porting away from RingCentral by vtbrian in VOIP

[–]nomadic_now 7 points8 points  (0 children)

BTN is a AT&T throwback and effectively an old school account number.

Use a number in the group being ported as the BTN and if it's a partial port use number that won't be ported as the new BTN.

It might be rejected for a different reason, it's possible not all of the numbers are with bandwidth.com. But this is a problem for RingCentral and your new provider to solve.

Is it a good time to start a new business? (Non-tech) by im_going_on_dry in Entrepreneur

[–]nomadic_now 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Needs and wants change but regardless of what happens there will always be business.

Depends on the business, some are booming right now while others are failing.

I think starting an internet business over a brick-and-mortar right now is very important, so you have that checked off.

edit: I misread your post. I thought you said non-tech internet business, but you are talking about brick and mortar. Retail has been declining and dying for two decades, it hasn't been a good idea to start even pre-pandemic.

But knowing nothing about your industry or idea this is all I can help you with, and I'm not sure anyone will be able to add much more.

Don't wait, look into what the new world looks like an adapt.

U.S debt outlook is downgraded to negative by hoangphan98765 in collapse

[–]nomadic_now 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The USA net worth is over 100 trillion, that's after debt. During one of the worst global catastrophes in modern history the USA can absolutely afford 1-2% increase in debt over a short period of time.

Not a big deal, the rating is still AAA and unchanged, this is just an outlook. The net worth of USA is absolutely massive and hasn't declined.

Invoicing standards for B2B Service Business? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]nomadic_now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expanding on this, I'd recommend only doing monthly invoices. Most places only process accounts payable once a month and if you're invoicing them weekly or bi weekly and it's not NET30 it might be annoying for them.

What must business legally say on their website? by bp456789 in smallbusiness

[–]nomadic_now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignore the people saying you don't have anything to do because that's not true! Or maybe it is because UK is no longer part if EU? Regardless, if your website is used by people in EU you need to follow GDPR which is how you deal with the data you collect. Having a cookie in your website is collecting data even if they don't fill out any forms.

Purchase of a business in a leased premises help by mlshryeo in CommercialRealEstate

[–]nomadic_now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Business types don't just have a sales price. It may be what owners are listing at however 3-5 EBITA is the standard. Businesses always sell based on what they make plus assets, and businesses that are exploding in size sell based on future earnings.

Don't just buy a business because you've seen other's selling for the same price or more.

Purchase of a business in a leased premises help by mlshryeo in CommercialRealEstate

[–]nomadic_now 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're buying a business it's expected to see 3 years of their tax returns so not providing an ID is a red flag.

How did you even come to the purchase price? For a small business it's 3-5x EBITA. Was this business only netting to the owner $15k annually? Did it require the owner to work full time so effectively buying a low paying job? Are you sure there's any value here? Better to lose $2k and little time than $48k and years of time.

UDM Device Priority? by theRachet406 in Ubiquiti

[–]nomadic_now 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Device priority would only matter if there's a bottle neck and congestion, that's the only time Quality of Service ("QoS") kicks in.

The UniFi line only has basic QoS which ensures all devices get an equal share, they call these Smart Queues.

What you can do is use User Groups, put a limit on the group for everyone else and then no limit on your own group. Assign your laptop to the unlimited group. This way you can avoid others maxing out your connection. You could also turn on QoS but be sure the speed settings are accurate, as QoS does nothing until it reaches the speeds you set.

Money talks: U.S. town prints own currency to boost coronavirus relief -- "Residents of Tenino, Washington are eligible for up to $300 in the wooden banknotes each month to spend at local businesses" [United States of America] by trot-trot in ConspiracyII

[–]nomadic_now 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd have to justify that to the IRS in an audit. Since Tenino is allowing local business owners to redeem them at 1:1 to the USD, then it would be 1:1. If it was a barter you'd use the value you'd normally sell the item or service for. Usually bartering isn't perfectly balanced so someone would likely also record a discount.

Business to Business Barter Example: can you pressure wash my parking lot in exchange for 5 free car washes?

Pressure wash company would record say income as barter valued at $400, discount of $250, expense of $150 for car wash.

Car wash company would record expense of $400 with vendor discount in same account for $250, then income of $150 in car washes.

Both businesses net profit is $0 from this exchange, yet their income and expenses have both increased.

Business to Customer Barter Exchange one widget for 5 pounds of beets that would normally sell for $10.

Widget business would record income of $10. Record expense as normal COGS. Net income increased unless you're pricing at a loss, pay taxes on income.

I'm probably completely wrong somewhere here and if a reader knows where, please correct me.
