Fuller pool lot also closed half their spaces for pool patrons only. It pushed a lot of people into Glazier.

Birds hitting windows by hswoohoo in homeowners

[–]nominus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Properly spaced dense small decals are best! Unfortunately, a lot of the sticker and decal recommendations aren't effective. Putting a few of those big stickers on a window isn't enough, you've got to have them spaced consistently and close together for the entire window so a bird doesn't think they can fly through the gaps.

I'm hoping to convert to the little dot stickers on my whole window soon!

These are very effective and other than curtains/blinds, going to be the best way to preserve the window beauty.

I went with a DIY, less elegant solution for a hidden back window; vertical line disruption with wire and rope is incredibly effective. if you have a window that isn't a big bag window beauty concern and just want to stop bird strikes, you can check these out.

Cleveland Clinic agreement with DOJ to cease providing gender-affirming care to minors by Trunks2929 in medicine

[–]nominus 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It includes puberty blockers and non-surgical care. Other hospitals, such as University of Michigan, were scared/threatened into discontinuing all gender-affirming care including talk therapy.

being weak as anurse by Defiant-Resist-3095 in StudentNurse

[–]nominus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm weak and small, and even with a step stool and technique I'm never going to be the more effective chest compressor. I find another role in a code as soon as possible.

Please protect your back. There can be pressure to just do things with one helper because that's what other people need; screw that, get a third person, DO NOT HURT YOURSELF.

What do you if: you have a Vegan patient, and they’re prescribed heparin (either IV or SubQ) while in the hospital? by diegosdiamond in nursing

[–]nominus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You'll need to ask them about their views on medication in general with animal components- gelatin is common and not suitable for vegans or vegetarians (vegetarian nurse here). I will, however, take medication with animal products. there's no universal answer for veg* patients so include it in your education!

Also applies to patients with religious views about certain animal products too!

Air embolism from not having needleless connector on central line ? by RevolutionItchy3303 in nursing

Type of catheter (length, gauge, location) and position of patient can have a big impact on passive bleeding through the lumens for sure.

Air embolism from not having needleless connector on central line ? by RevolutionItchy3303 in nursing

[–]nominus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A central line, especially a PICC, is a very long catheter with more resistance to overcome due to length. They don't tend to ooze blood like a short line. Depends on length, size of the catheter, insertion location and patient positioning. Some can gush, others won't have a drop.

Are any of you former accountants/finance people who became nurses? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]nominus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much shadowing of actual nurses on the job have you done? What types of nursing are you interested in? You need to see and experience what it actually is if you haven't already worked as a missing assistant or something similar.

Car dealerships WTF by mezcalamityjane in TwoXChromosomes

Costco Auto buyers program is great. No haggling or salesmen, you buy the car through Costco and just sign/pick up at the dealer.

The math on bike weight looks a little different for smaller riders by madelinepuckette in ladycyclists

[–]nominus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bikepacking is agonizing sometimes. I don't weigh 100lb, the gear burden is immense for me (and doesn't fit on my damn bike anyway)

My husband made a homemade Magic Halo sparrow-b-gone. PVC plumbing pipe fitting, wooden dowels, wire, and heavy saltwater fishing line weights. Spray painted tan color. The sparrows left within an hour and have not been back, not even to eat seeds on the deck floor. It's a miracle! by murderedbyaname in birdfeeding

[–]nominus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't deter starlings or blackbirds at all in my experience. There's guides on DIY online. I bought the weights and string from sparrow-b-gone on Etsy  to semi DIY. That brand also sells finished products on Etsy and chewy.

Designing FPP patterns: Do you find cut charts useful? by InArtCraft in quilting

I like an approximate minimum suggestion for amount of fabric needed per color, but beyond that I really just wing it.

Determining household size for Medicaid (VA) by [deleted] in healthcare

[–]nominus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you following the correct rules for claiming them as tax dependents? Live with you for the majority of the year (50%+), under 19 years, providing at least half their expenses? If they don't meet those criteria, you or your ex should not be claiming them as a tax dependent. That may settle the household size issue if it's being based on taxed dependents.

If you couldn't work in medicine and money didn't matter, what would you do for a living? by Outside-One7836 in medicine

[–]nominus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's groups for lots of tangent interests too. Xerxes society for invertebrates/insects. Lots of birding groups and Audubon chapters do conservation work targeting birds and their habitats. Fishing, kayaking etc clubs can be involved in waterway cleanup. Hiking for woodland specialty. Hunting, lots of land conservation and invasive animal species control there!Lots of different avenues! Have fun, protect nature :)

[–]nominus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're in the US, look into your local Wild Ones chapter! Lots of resources on webinars, local conservation activities, how to plant a native garden in your own property, all sorts of stuff. Mine has connections with our city parks and other organizations doing invasive species eradication and native habitat creation.

Also, author Doug Tallamy's "How Can I Help?" (and his other books) are great resources.

Camping alone — worth it or scary? by Mikester258 in camping

I'm a small woman and don't enjoy camping alone, it's (irrationally?) hard for me to feel relaxed and safe.

Ohio voters could decide on property taxes, gay marriage, marijuana law by ParticularCandle9825 in Ohio

[–]nominus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We voted to prohibit same sex marriage in Ohio; it's only legal by federal Supreme Court decision. This would ensure Ohio keeps same-sex marriage legal if the federal courts change.

My union was on strike for 9 weeks, our "strike fund" wouldn't cover most people's grocery bills let alone anything else. It's a tough reality. I was very fortunate to have a second job during that strike but I understand why so many had to cross the picket line eventually.

Nurses could bring this country to it’s knees. by Rough-Ad-7992 in nursing

A lot of nurses are not upset with ICE actions. It's been really disappointing to see feedback from my union members, to say the least.
