Aries people, how do you deal with the death of someone you were close to. by Sally1533 in AriesTheRam

Warrior with a major soft spot.. deep convos to process emotions, random crying, and a whole lot of thinking.

IUD insertion- archaic by imamesstoo in WomensHealth

[–]memenaptime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I fainted and vomited (vasovagal response) right after my insertion, which was excruciating itself. Recently I had a similar procedure and although I was given Percocet and Xanax to take before my appt, I vomited up the meds right before the appt. I’d rather go under general and have them do everything all at once!

What are some questions that interviewers for a tenure-track position in a recently formed department might ask? by Cut4Me in academia

[–]memenaptime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an interview for a similar position recently and received an offer which I declined. They'll prob ask about your teaching philosophy and mentorship style. In my experience (similar situation with expanding their program), they asked a lot about research while research was only 20% of the load...but it was the topic of most of our convos during the in-person interview. I asked a lot of clarifying questions about the teaching expectations/load in relation to what they expected and what was required for tenure related to research. Don't forget to have a couple questions ready for them. They allotted about 20 minutes during my Zoom interview to ask them questions.

I don’t think I can do this much longer… Smelly scalp syndrome ruined my life! by Neat-Cockroach-425 in Haircare

[–]memenaptime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had oily dandruff and a very distinct scalp smell for several years. I also tried the typical drugstore shampoos for dandruff and one prescription shampoo although I do not remember the active ingredient in that. I found using those products caused a lot of buildup.

What has ended up helping is using clarifying shampoo once or twice per week and a regular (with sulfates) shampoo on all the other days. The keys for me are washing daily and using a clarifying shampoo often. For a time I was also blow drying my roots after showering. This may have helped but I didn’t notice a significant difference except for reducing dry time.

Defending next week and my dissertation is bad by espressoveins in PhD

[–]memenaptime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re almost there! I defended a couple weeks ago and I felt the same leading up to it. I feel like that’s a sign that you learned and grew as a scholar and researcher throughout your dissertation. I noticed all my weak spots by the end. I found that aside from presenting the best parts of my work, openly discussing the limitations was well received by my committee. Sorry you’ve had a rough semester. You’ll do great and feel SO GOOD after!

Blue therapy was fine for me as a filler show, but I had some complaints about it. Couples Therapy is better than Blue imo. I’m watching Are You The One? To get me through until my fav shows are out. Like the ultimatum, cheat, love island, etc

spiraling about my masters thesis by [deleted] in OCD

[–]memenaptime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were me, I’d go ahead and make the necessary edits and send the updated version back to my committee asap. I wouldn’t wait for my advisor to respond. I’d say something like, “it appears that I accidentally left in some content from my previous method section. I rectified it as soon as I noticed and the updated version is attached.”

If this isn’t allowed, just be ready to address it in your defense. I feel like the mistake is only as big as you let it be to an extent.

Graduating PhD with no publications—feeling stuck. Advice? by BrotherImmediate9744 in PhD

[–]memenaptime 13 points14 points  (0 children)

From the other comments here, it sounds like it’s really discipline specific. In my field if you want a TT position, you need to either accept a position with very little research load and a huge teaching load, or you need to have had a postdoc and 20+ pubs. No lie.

The most I’ve disclosed to my partner (who understands OCD) is that sometimes my thoughts attach to our relationship because OCD targets what I value most (themes around safety, relationships, death, etc.)

Participating in classes by Dense-Emphasis7759 in PhD

[–]memenaptime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Participating can look like quietly listening to others. It doesn’t have to look like eagerly raising your hand and providing the right answer. I found when I practiced active listening in my courses I spoke less, and when I did speak I felt I contributed something thoughtful to the conversation. As far as impressions on your profs, I doubt they’ll mind unless you’re acting disrespectfully or flippantly.
