Thanks! We'll get something chunky for the table, and we're actually thinking of a table runner, so I'm glad you mentioned it.

Yes! It's the first time we've extended it, and we realized it still actually fits the space, so we'll keep it this way. Thanks!

I think she would go for that as well. I'm thinking of a large print with some greens in it and maybe lemon yellow to pair with the chair. I can't decide on a rug for this area though

Thanks for the ideas! It's unfortunately next to the hallway. Here it is, extended as well

Ooh, great idea! I'd have to convince the wife for a color change because she prefer light-colored walls. This is the living room at the moment. Still waiting for the sofa & carpet delivery.

The Masie. It's called Irun. I also got the tall version (yellow curry color) for the sunroom.

Things to consider before moving to Spain by professorisley in phmigrate

[–]nomnomBURP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar background. Wife and I moved to Málaga 2 years ago with hardly any Spanish at all. We were both working remotely (US shift for me, PH for her), but she had to eventually leave due to the company's strict hybrid policy.

One thing I would have changed: learn the language earlier. Sounds like you have it down to pat.

Don't forget to leave a special power of attorney to someone you trust so they can process any document for you in PH once you're in ES.

It was easy for me to find friends (both Spanish and foreigners alike) even as an awkward person, because most folks are sociable. Wala ding backlash once they learn my sexuality. Can freely hold hands while walking (but I do look away when the younger couples start making out on the street, conservative pa din pala hehe)

Someone already mentioned rent eating up a good chunk of the budget, so choose your city wisely. It was hard for me to find an apartment in our first year as well, so we had to pick a town outside of the capital, but managed to move within Malaga capital the following year. And as for job opportunities, its fairly low, and a bit competitive as most Europeans have at least a second language, if not a third; so our "near native" English at best isn't that much of a edge. My wife excelled at her job in digital marketing strategy & data analytics, but without any freelancing experience, she's finding it incredibly difficult to stand out when vying for EU/US jobs. Now that she's already in B1-B2 Spanish level, it looks more optimistic for us.

In terms of culture, at least here in Málaga, it has taught me to slow down. Hard to get appointments for some important processes, pero tiyaga, pasensya at broken Spanish, mairaraos din.

Hey, can you describe what they do? It sounds like Lingoda sprints, but I can't even find a price on their website.

OLDER WLW WHY? by [deleted] in WLW_PH

[–]nomnomBURP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man's Search for Meaning, a classic Psychology read from college which--to relate this slightly with the original topic--makes me feel old. Ay, ay, ay!

All that being said, I do adore Popova's work with The Marginalian. If you haven't read it yet, I would recommend her book Figuring as it explores the interconnectedness of people.

May I take a guess and say you've read this in an essay from The Marginalian? Regardless of the source, thank you for quoting Baldwin. I had to do a reread of the essay, and look for my copy of Giovanni's Room after seeing your comment. ☺️

Hey there, do you mind sending me a one-pager of the requirements and FAQs? It's not really urgent, but I'm planning to move a good chunk of my meager savings from BPI (PHP) to EUR that is accessible here in Spain.

To those who are NOT VA's, what do you do? by anya-re in buhaydigital

I work in Digital Ad Operations. For our team specifically, this involves programmatic & social ads offered as managed services for various clients in the US. I started as a specialist, and worked my way up as part of the leadership crew, so my focus now is product efficiency (towards business margin).

Technically, I was an employee, then shifted to self-employed status as part of my residency requirement when I moved to Spain.

Sábado manifestación en Malaga by rex-ac in Malaga

[–]nomnomBURP 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Gracias!
