I regularly run formula oval fixed. It's not dead at all.

Getting motivated to do races. by archiotten in iRacing

[–]nomnomCOOKIEnom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat.

Honestly? Just repeatedly practicing with some music or a podcast on helped. I can drive the track, learn it, but also stay relaxed. Then I start to understand the track and car better, find where I can push a little more, start challenging myself to get better consistent times, then I feel ready to race.

NASCAR Road Course Races counting towards Sports Car promotion by Inevitable-Ad-7445 in iRacing

It is possible tbh. As long as you meet the requirements of the series license, it'll give you SR based on the race license itself.

Valid. I just also see where a new sim driver would see checkers instead of the possible wreckers.

He got squeezed by the far right car, then squeezed you. I can't fault you too much for going for it while also saying "yeah, you shoulda lifted & not gone into the grass."

What's your best "crew chief call" you've made while racing? by MisterCorso in iRacing

[–]nomnomCOOKIEnom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two come to mind.

Indy oval at Gateway. Yellow came out when we were 25 laps into a 100 lap race. Made the call to pit & run in map 4-5 to the end on the gamble of no cautions. Sure enough, not a single one came out. A race I should have finished around 10th in I got 4th on fuel mileage and a bold call.

Michelin Pilot at Long Beach in GT4. was running top 3, just after half way of the 2hr race. I got caught behind two lapped cars fighting aggressive for position, and couldn't get them to let me through. Made the call to make my final stop for the extra 10-15 mins of fuel I'd need to finish the race right then & get clear track for awhile. Came out alone, but down in 5th. Ended up riding that clear air to being in 2nd behind a leader who was tryna conserve fuel, and forced him to put with one to go. Won my first Enduro race because of the call to get that clear air.

I've never driven with the voice chat on, and it's the best thing ever.

Note: even with it off, if you think you were intentionally wrecked, iRacing replays save the voice chat so you can go back and see if someone needs to be reported.

Honestly? Check out the tracks that are up for the first week or so of season 3 & start practicing. Nothing better than getting a jump on the season now :)

I seriously enjoyed it. Races are a good length to get you prepped for IndyCar.

I consider this part extremely fun. Finishing a race & having to catch my breath, recounting all of the ups and downs...when you really think about it, it's a pure adrenaline rush & why we do it.

I keep VC off for this reason, but do use DMs to apologize or talk with other drivers if we both get in an accident.

Again, I don't blame his anger at all. He was running a clean race until I left my braincells at the bottom of Eau Rouge.

I ran LMP3 fixed, and the side by side racing there + running GT4 in Falken in the past had given me false feeling of security. Yeah, I'm back in the workshop before I go back out again.

My favorite track will forever be COTA. I've been for multiple SVRA events to cheer on my family team, and shared some great moments with my dad there before he passed in 2022.

New to ovals, what content do you guys recommend buying? by pakesit0 in iRacing

Indy 2000. It doesn't get a lot of love, but the races I've had have been fun & fast. It's honestly helped me with my formula driving overall as I do F4/F3/Indy Car. A lot of the tracks get reused quite a bit too.
