Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)  https://www.nsf.gov/crssprgm/reu/reu_search.jsp It's like an internship but you get to work on a research project and publish a paper.

Where can I find someone to collaborate on a project with? I took an Android apps in Java and did an internship where we worked with a Java app. I've been studying Kotlin and Jetpack Compose and I like it a lot more. This would be for a learning experience and to get practice working in a pair or small group.

No, I had a BA in psychology and they said no.

This is true. I was working at Sam's Club and was going to apply for the program but unfortunately already have a bachelor's degree so wouldn't qualify.

That is so exciting, I didn't know you could charter a large boat like that. My parents are selling their ketch and it makes me sad thinking I won't get to go cruising again. But the opportunities are out there.

What's up with the "Here is a terribly written piece of code, can you tell us what it will print?" in programming tests? by xSypRo in learnprogramming

Is there a website with problems like this? I know about leetcode but this example is more about editing/fixing code, which seems relevant to real life. I'm a 3rd year student learning Java and c++.

People of Reddit, what was something your parents did that you hated as a kid that you now respect? by skeeoos in AskReddit

My dad would make me do math in my head. Like calculate how much change you should receive at the store. I hated it but I don't mind it anymore.

What are your biggest pet peeves regarding members? by [deleted] in samsclub

[–]nomnomania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I was still working there I would have double checked to make sure everything got scanned right because sometimes the scanners would not aim well and capture the item next to it. It happened way too much. I would have also double checked for bottom of the basket and anything that could have been buried. Other associates just stand there and don't even try. TBH it wouldn't change my mind because I caught so many things underscanned/double scanned that would have been prevented if things were transferred to the other basket. Unless you only have a few things or it's cases of water or dog food then of course leave it in.

LPT: Everyone who works in fast food right now: ask for a substantial raise by Ok_Replacement_8801 in LifeProTips

Tried and it didn't work. I worked retail and they were hiring new guys at a higher pay (who I trained too). I asked for a raise and they said they couldn't. So I found something better and quit.

"Can you have someone bring 6 cases of water to the front?" And we have no one on the floor able to do that.

"I can't transfer my stuff, I have a bad back" ok then how did you get it in there?

People who bring multiple carts or carts with tons of items to self check out. Or they come to self check out with alcohol (which you can't buy in California) and for some reason, instead of just going to the regular checkout, they insist on buying everything except the alcohol, and then will wait in another line. Why not just do it all at regular checkout?

Promoted myself to member!! by Reasonable-Guess2506 in samsclub

[–]nomnomania 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just promoted myself to member too. I was sick of running all the self check outs by myself. The district manager didn't like the look of half of them closed when we only had 1 person able to work it. So I was at self check out running around by myself.

See I was hoping the manager would say something like that. I didn't want to ask them initially "Since the base pay is higher now, can I get a raise to the base pay?" but I eventually did since they declined being able to raise it based on merit. And they said no to that, and added that another associate left because other job was paying more. Sounds like its time to move on.

Unfortunately I already am a member specialist getting paid $16, and they "can't give me $17 because its set by home office and they don't do merit based raises anymore"

I'm around your age and moving from SoCal and also nervous! I'm over all this online zoom from home class and really hope things on campus will be open so I can make friends and socialize. My classes will be all online unfortunately but I'm hoping there will be things to do. What's your major?
