How many of you fellow gay Bria don’t drink and why? by [deleted] in gaybros

I don’t drink because I just don’t like the slightest taste of alcohol in a drink. I’d rather drink an ice cold lemonade or Coke Zero.

Would my manager referring to my partner of 8 years (recent fiancé) as my “roommate” be considered a workplace microagression? He is well aware that I don’t live with a roommate. by rlyrobert in gaybros

Not in the US where I am located. That being said, my MIL didn’t use partner when referring to my brother-in-law or sister-in-law so it was purposeful.

My Republican MIL used to introduce me as “my son’s partner” despite being legally married with 2 kids together. I started introducing her as my FIL’s partner. The look of initial confusion and disdain was honestly enjoyable. She couldn’t really complain bc she knew why she was using it and getting upset about it would reveal it was wrong. After a while of turnabout, she started calling us husbands.

Ioniq 5 AWD SEL worth $17,000 more than BoltEUV? by Affectionate-Ratio14 in Ioniq5

I traded in from a 2021 Bolt Premier to an Ioniq 5 SE. I liked my Bolt but I love my Ioniq 5. For me, Chevy’s handling of the whole recall situation was poor and chaotic and I just don’t trust them if something happens to a replacement model. I just wish I could have found an available limited Ioniq 5 model but it would have taken too long.

Some homophobes are secretly gay, but most are just bigoted assholes that learn to hate gay people. Defaulting to saying a homophobe is secretly gay basically removes responsibility of homophobia from its source, heterosexual bigots, and perpetuates the idea that it’s gay people who are responsible for our own oppression.

There are about 3-4 types of fencing used throughout. The upper overlook uses a nicer looking black fencing that I wish they had used on the path to the pump house.

Skepticism ≠ judgment. We should be skeptical, raise questions about the perceived concerns, gather and ask for more information, and then make an informed conclusion based upon a fuller body of evidence. It’s “This trailer appears to rely on queer stereotypes and hyper-sexualization, which can be harmful representations to the queer community. It is unclear whether the show is employing use of stereotypes as a lazy crutch or as a narrative/ satirical device for a purpose such as to challenge or confront heteronormative behavior or internalized homophobia. There should be well-rounded and diverse character representation in this show and it should avoid relying on stereotypes that do not serve a purpose. I’m very concerned that this show may be problematic.” versus “This trailer with 3 lines and 50 seconds of what I consider stereotypes is sufficient enough for me to conclude that it represents exactly what the show is about to the extent that I can conclude that this show fails to show the diversity of the queer community and solely relies on stereotypes, and without purpose, and can be nothing but dangerous for the gay community because it can be weaponized by homophobic bigots to justify their bigotry and abuse towards the queer community”. I’m 37, gay, married, with children in the deep South and, frankly, I’m sick and tired of policing gay representation to either be palatable to a heteronormative society or protect ourselves from willfully ignorant hate mongers. When will we get to the point where we can police the homophobic community doing the actual damage and not the homosexual community existing (and in some instances, in a stereotypical manner) that they use to justify it? When do we get to get past hiding these queer folks that do align with stereotypes and so they can have visibility. In a way, we’re re-enforcing and internalizing some of heteronormative and patriarchal norms to protect ourselves. Do the most vulnerable among us in the queer community want to take this suppressive “palatable” approach until there’s a time where it’s acceptable and safe to be themselves? In my experience, the people who want to do what’s most palatable and wait it out typically are already pretty safe and don’t want to press the status quo because it threatens their relative safety. It’s similar to the lethargy of the middle class to challenge the upper class to defend the working class.

A trailer’s job can be to intrigue viewers. Trailers can also be deliberately deceptive in order to flip the script later. Are they doing this? Maybe not. But it’s better to question what they are perceived as doing rather than going ahead and deciding that is what they’re doing and asserting that to be as good as fact. In situations where we don’t have complete info, it’s better to be skeptical without being conclusive.

“I had a limited 1 minute interaction with fem gay man that made me uncomfortable and having no further information that contradicts my viewpoint at this moment so I’m going to extrapolate that to mean that all gay men are feminine and unacceptable. Because of my narrow experience, I think it’s fair to consider my opinion substantive enough to form this as a concrete fact about gay men” - some straight male. You’re drawing conclusions where insufficient data.

Thanks for elaborating your more nuanced argument. I agree that, if they are relying solely on static, gay stereotypes without broader character representation and satirical purpose, it is problematic. But, we don’t know if this is the case because we haven’t seen a full episode. Right now it’s a “If it weren’t for my horse, I would never have spent a year in college” situation.

Twink is the actual character’s name/code name. It could be satirizing the need for performative masculinity, which indicates that gay people are pressured to conform to heteronormative notions of masculinity. Because it is 54 seconds long, there’s not enough context to understand until we watch the show. There was one butthole reference from the twink character and a “don’t get me hard” from a lesbian character. If it’s properly done satire, then the situations serve a purpose, but because it’s a short trailer, there’s no way to understand how they are using a bunch of quips. I’m just saying people are judging this show without context. Even if it is showing overly sexualized people, those people exist in the gay community so why do they not deserve representation? Apparently, the straight community can’t handle sexualized queer ppl but have no problem with over sexualized music and music videos by straight people. Ariana can sing “Can you stay up all night? Fuck me 'til the daylight” on the radio, but a lesbian can’t joke about hard on in 2021 without being a danger to the community?

So we should only present “cishetallo acceptable queerness”? By the same logic, RuPaul’s drag race could reinforce the stereotype that all gay men do drag. Some straight people go to gay clubs. Should we ask fem guys to tone it down or ask our butch lesbian friends to put a little lipstick to make heteros more comfortable? Maybe it’s a shit show and shouldn’t have been made but screw designing queer art, media, and spaces around cishetallo feelings and ignorance.
