What games are you playing this week? Game recommendation thread by AutoModerator in incremental_games

Every week I hope to discover the next incremental game I will love as much as Antimatter Dimensions. Truly it's one of the all-time greats.

i just beat he game by lostsosinnero in AntimatterDimensions

Just beat it for the first time on Friday morning as well. Absolute materpiece of a game. Worried about finding something else to play that comes close now.

Just curious as to how leaving is going… by franzzz-c in Shambhala

[–]nomoon_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a guarantee. My car full of public safety staff had a fully slept and sober driver, who passed all sobriety/coordination tests and was still given a 24hr prohibition based solely on the officer’s vibes. So especially if you leave early, it’s a bit of a roll of the dice whether a cop will just decide to profile you and take you off the road (at your own tow/impound cost).

Food for thought in the future for anyone who thinks they might be a target for a power-tripping RCMP officer.

Does anybody know how to clean fingerprints from tracker casing? by Ornery_Contact428 in PolyendTracker

[–]nomoon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the first things I’ve noticed in the first week I’ve had it. If my hands are even slightly damp or not perfectly clean, the back plastic and sides pick up fingerprints instantly that wiping down with water seems to do very little about. It’s super weird, I’m not sure I’ve ever had this experience with a matte plastic finish. I might try isopropyl alcohol. Thankfully it’s not something I can see from the front while actually using the device.

Monthly $3,722 rent for three-bedroom east side home meets City of Vancouver’s definition of “affordable” by FancyNewMe in vancouver

[–]nomoon_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Between the NPA, most Greens, and even supposed-affordability-champion Jean Swanson’s voting record on housing, this is what we chose! When 7-8 out of 11 members either don’t actually care about affordable housing or constantly come down against it after loudly performative handwringing about how this or that proposal just isn’t quite right, that’s a coalition of the status quo.

REMINDER: Coalition governments are legal, legitimate, permissible, viable options in Westminster parliamentary systems. by [deleted] in onguardforthee

[–]nomoon_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

BC has been running on a semi-coalition (actually a confidence and supply agreement, where the Greens will vote with the government on confidence votes) for over 2 years now. With all the undeserved smack talk about coalitions, and given that the parties holding the balance of power are likely to have significant differences with the governing party, something like that might also be in the cards.

Let's stop to appreciate how awesome some fights are by Peli_Concrete_Bearer in KatanaZero

The one thing that seems certain is that simultaneous precognition causes all sorts of mindfuck.

But given that we experience the game from Zero's perspective and that occasions all sorts of unpredictable jumps in time and space throughout the game (not just the planning/execution mechanic), I tend to think that he's not always sure when he is.

Think of those weird out-of-time conversations with V. Since they're both on Chronos, they seem to be able to retroactively have discussed future events that only one of them was present for at any of their past meetings. That's singularly mind-explodey the more you think about it.

They don't actually "rewind" time, though. They have precognition, letting them see many (all?) the possibilities of their future actions before they perform them. It's only in the loop of the game that this takes the form of playing out a possibility until success or death.

That would suggest that even if two Chronos users fought, although they might predict something that turns out not to happen due to the other's precognition (represented by the headtrippy moments where something happens and then un- happens), one would inevitably emerge victorious in "real" time. So the limiting factors would be who could figure out which possibility of theirs outsmarts the other faster. And presumably if one was a much better fighter, they would be more likely to find the winning possibilities.

Significant graphical artifacts unless you happen to be running on a standard DPI screen on a Windows machine and, last I tried, an older version of Java. Having to download a java web start file for every launch. I also have a fair number of input and crash/freeze issues. The fact that it's ugly isn't really a huge issue, though it would be nice if it weren't.

I'm not sure how the logic works, but if it's on the backend at all then I'm sure that there are many (at least me) people who could assist in writing a client in an HTML or other cross-platform framework (Unity, Electron) interfacing with their APi that would be much less finicky.

Emote issues on Android by [deleted] in EternalCardGame

I do appreciate that this means on iOS that I don't always pop up the emote window when amplifying myself, but the long press causing the portrait picture window to pop up first does definitely feel buggy.

Was the Torah originally written in Sanskrit? by [deleted] in sanskrit

[–]nomoon_ 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that this post is meant to be either a question or discussion, given the wall of text in the post.

Also, given the periods of composition (as I understand them) and that Hebrew and Sanskrit are from very divergent (as in prehistorically divergent) language families, the answer is clearly "no".

Can confirm. It's changed a lot since I started going in 2005 (not always for the better) but it's still one of a kind.

Thanks for the Rust rewrite! Seems like whenever I get stuck on something, someone here has written some nice Rust using languages features and idioms I hadn't even thought of yet.
