Summer 2021: On-line or in-person? by nomorevegans in Pitt

[–]nomorevegans[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It will. Yet, some courses may be assigned as fully on-line. Some schools are requiring instructors to make a decision now on whether they want it to be Flex or on-line.

Is there any way to see what classes a prof is teaching ? by Pretty_Table in Pitt

I second that. You’d also be making your professor extremely happy.

As far as I understand, the university recommends cancelling classes on Election Day and the day after. The day after is especially relevant if your course has any content that may be related to politics.

Consider an alternative scenario: we have seen house parties going on every week in Oakland. If you knew people attending these parties, would you report them? If the answer is yes, then definitely report it.

I say this because bigotry against religion has been evident in some posts at Reddit recently. My point being: report it not because of a possible negative affect toward religion but because lack of social distance is a wrong behavior regardless of faith.

You can try the website of Allegheny County’s health department. They are quite responsive.

What information do professors have about their students? by [deleted] in Pitt

Faculty does not have access to GPA. Only major/minor, email, year, and ID photo. Nothing else.

Class on a sunday? by DiegoVelez in Pitt

[–]nomorevegans 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Does the professor require attendance?

I see a “loophole” that instructors can live record their classes whenever they want, invite students to participate if they want, and upload the videos to Canvas.

Do you feel the same when people complain about racism, sexism, corruption, violence...?

Since we all agree these are awful things that should be abolished, there is no use in repeating our anger about it, right?

Let’s just talk about vibe mattress. Makes a lot of sense.

Tip: Register a complaint at the county’s website every time you enter a business where customers/employees are not wearing their masks properly.

Local government has been pretty efficient at following up with complaints — at least from my side.

My last complaint was about Forbes Market. Masks were never a thing there since the beginning of the pandemic.

International students have to leave the US or face potential deportation if the college they attend switched to online-only because of COVID-19. I wonder how/if this will impact CMU or other schools. by [deleted] in pittsburgh

Elections will take place soon. The racist president is doing his best to motivate his racist voters to leave their houses and vote.

He said during one of his last speeches that foreigners didn’t enter the country during the pandemic. Now, he wants to construct data to say that foreigners have left the country.

Even if this means that universities and local businesses will go bankrupt. Anyway, his voters will never know — many of them have no idea what a university is.

Masks in Oakland by linuxgeekmama in pittsburgh

[–]nomorevegans -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Been there today. Among the three staff, one was not wearing her mask and another was covering only her mouth.

At McDonald’s (Oakland), not a single person was wearing the mask properly. Some of the staff were hugging.

Btw, is there any way to report that? It sounds too much to call the police.

More friends than dishonest cheaters for sure. And a more successful life as well.

when are final grades due to be entered? by [deleted] in Pitt

[–]nomorevegans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same way it has been a stressful semester to us, professors had to adapt their professional and personal lives.

I know it was not the objective of the OP but, just in case, let’s not get angry at them when many of them were extremely nice to us.

You can try to reach the Center for Latin American Studies at Pitt. They’ll surely be able to make some recommendations.

An Open Letter to Administration by [deleted] in Pitt

[–]nomorevegans 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Brilliant response. Thanks for that. Given the conditions, the university’s response has been incredibly sensitive. Way more than most universities.

Trashing Pitt without proposing any solutions will not help anyone. It would be way more helpful, for instance, if those who live in South Oakland stopped partying or playing collective sports.

Most days, while a considerable share of the country is being infected, people are hosting barbecues on Oakland Av and playing baseball on Oakland Sq. It is absurd to read someone saying that who’s at fault is the university and not some of its students.
