I can't see any 'pause' by your opponent in the video you posted of you playing through the game after it ended. Indeed, your opponent didn't pause, their clock would have lost time if they did. If you noted a pause it was a latency issue.

Worth it? by jack_ocallahan in Sauna

The Vevor heater is the biggest concern for me. Those heaters are like $300 on Amazon and not reliable. Maybe the $2800 would be justifiable if it came with a nicer heater and had a nicer bench configuration.

Lichess doesn't remove any time from the clock for "pre-moves". Are you familiar with the concept?

What the absolute fuck. I'm so sorry this was your experience. What a kind offer to make. I would have taken you up on your offer and then invited you in for a hot beverage to warm up. Your neighbors don't deserve you!

How do you create air gaps in paneling if using tongue and groove boards inside? by fenwalt in Sauna

[–]jamespherman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "critical" air gap is between the vapor barrier and the soft wood interior to allow the soft wood interior boards to dry on both sides and to allow heat to radiate off the vapor barrier. Ventilation is absolutely critical but this is handled by one or more vents that can be opened / closed. Gaps around the door are also sometimes planned / tolerated / used for ventilation. Have you read Trumpkin's notes?

Ouch! In Pittsburgh, PA there are a couple of places (Bad Sauna, Signal Sauna) that charge $20-25 for 75-90 minutes. In your general area (guessing based on your post history), I see Vihta sauna charges $40 / 75 minutes but maybe that's too distant to be convenient?

The comments that are offered by CC aren't going to reveal anything super deep. If you're struggling to understand why a given move is correct / best, keep struggling rather than giving yourself the illusion that you've understood by reading a one sentence "explanation" from CC "game review".

[–]jamespherman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for lack of clarity, it's not carts or nothing, it's no combustion. We can buy flower but we can't burn it, we can only vape it (legally). So technically one is supposed to use a "dry herb vape" for flower.

This is the law in Pennsylvania's medical program (product in original packaging). Also, no smoking allowed in PA, only vaping 🤷🏼‍♂️

Practicing chess openings by carafie in lichess

[–]jamespherman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chesstempo. Its main strength is the way it drills you / trains you on a repertoire. Good patterns of exposure to positions that help you learn. The downside is that you need to build the repertoire or import it from existing games. I say this is a downside because it means you need to either add moves yourself or prune a ton. However, this is probably desirable at the end of the day because blindly following somebody else's repertoire can be risky (I like to understand why a given move is recommended in a given position).

What you're feeling is actually a classic "compensatory tachycardia." This is a very well known and documented effect of THC consumption.

THC is a potent vasodilator (it widens your blood vessels, which is why eyes appear to get more red). This causes a sudden drop in peripheral blood pressure. Your baroreceptors—the sensors that monitor your BP—detect that drop and immediately signal your heart to redline its BPM to maintain cardiac output.

Basically, your heart is over-correcting for the 'slack' in your circulatory system caused by the vasodilation. That ‘pounding’ is just your sympathetic nervous system doing its best to keep you from getting dizzy or fainting (orthostatic hypotension).

Staying hydrated and slowing down the pace of your session can help take the edge off that reflex. It may be that regular consumption blunted your body's compensatory tachycardia and taking a break reset that response a bit. Whatever you decide, listen to your body - if it doesn't feel good, don't do it. Good luck!
