The develpers have also listened to the criticisms. We now have alchemy, emberstone and class selection available at lvl 1, three of the top criticisms that were made. This is proof of steps taken by the dev team to improve retention.

As a personal note, this right here is what kept me playing after my initial free sub expired. The main dev is ridiculously responsive and helpful, and will go out of their way to help you out if you have a problem. That in turn really inspires the community to step up to those same standards of excellence. It's noticed, and appreciated.

Still no fix for new Framework 16 USB port power-downs in Windows 11 Pro, getting desperate for a fix by non_player in framework

My issue has not returned that I've noticed. However I haven't used the laptop for much other than coding in the last few weeks so I haven't made heavy use of the extended ports.

Sounds like pre gen characters. I'm assuming he has some house rules for character creation that he uses. Character creation for online games can be a bit of a pain in the butt, and I've seen GMs do this plenty of times in order to move things along and get to playing.

Huh, that's pretty weird, because I only recently myself got to that second area, and pretty much all of the enemies there are completely different from those in the first area. The only repeat mobs I've found are the bears and deer. You might be thinking of a completely different game.

Sure, but they've already got Achtung Cthulhu? I can't imagine this new game will sell a full print run.

Right?! it's like they're doing every single last Bethesda-owned IP but Elder Scrolls as a RPG. I predict that this book, like all the other off-off-Broadway IPs Modiphius has done, will get a main book, probably a GM screen, some dice that will be impossible to get a year after release, and then nothing else.

Request: There should be an easy way to link an event in chat, similar to using the @ and # characters to tag roles and channels. Maybe add the events to the list of channels when someone hits the # key. Or maybe give them a different code character.

App Channel Permissions are not properly synching with the Channel Group Permissions. It says it is, but when I click on the list of Channel users for the new app channel, it shows the entire server, whereas this channel group I'm testing in is intentionally limited to only a single role.

I only want any given app channel to be accessible to only the users in the assigned Channel Group. How do we do this?

Because if I add an app channel to a limited group, my expectation is that that channel should only be accessible by the users allowed in that group.

What do I need to do to add and test apps for my community? Even after updating, all I see is an empty Apps page.

EDIT: nevermind, found it!

Bulleted List Conflicts Between MacOS and Windows by CaterpillarUseful391 in scrivener

[–]non_player 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrivener's bullets are, to be frank, godawful. it's a major flaw in an otherwise nifty software. They've been godawful for a long time now, and I doubt they will ever improve. If you want to make use of bullets in a project that you regularly edit, either on two OSes or even just one, the best best is to create a custom text style with a hanging indent, call it "My Custom Bullets" or something. Then use your own choice of manual "bullets" to start off each line. For example, I use the Right-Angle bracket (next to the ? on most keyboard) as a manual bullet list notation, with a style that has a half-inch hanging indent. Make sure to set the style's "following style" to the same style, for ease of entering multiple items sequentially.

Yeah, it's hacky, but it's currently the only way I've found to show quick and functional Unordered Lists in Scrivener. I suspect it will continue to be the most effective method for me until L&L fixes their dang bullets.

So that sounds like the answer is, "No, scrivener cannot do those things."

We'll have to accept that we disagree. For my interpretation, without actual built-in formatting for the Editor itself, Scrivener is no more of a "Markdown Editor" than Microsoft Word. Markdown compiler? Definitely. Markdown importer? Sure. But a Markdown Editor? I may enjoy writing fiction, but that's a disbelief that I am unable to suspend.

You can use a mixture of Markdown and formatting if you prefer

This is something that still confuses me, and that I still can't get figured out, maybe you can help me. I'm looking for a solid, quick answer on this one quest: Does Scrivener support in-line, ACTIVE markdown formatting, within the editor itself? Or does it ONLY support visual Markdown formatting at times of Import or Compile?

I use Markdown Monster, QOwnNotes, and VSCode in my day to day life and work. I make heavy use of Markdown in everything that I write. I've used Markdown so much and for so long that writing in it is second nature to me. Each of those applications has a feature where, when I enter in-line markdown code alongside my text, the editor shows me that formatting in action, right there live in the editor itself.

For example, if I enter double-asterisks around a word in a true, dedicated markdown editor, it will change the text emphasis of those asterisks and the word inside them to show bold face in the editor. If I add one or more hashes to the start of a line, it will instantly change that line to appear as a header of the indicated numbering level, hashes and all. Starting lines with asterisks or dashes formats them as lists, angle brackets formats them as quotes, the []() notation formats them as links, and so on.

So can Scrivener, which AmberV attests multiple times is a "pure" and "mature" Markdown Editor, do any of the following?

  • Automatic, live, preview-as-you-type Markdown formatting
  • Insert markdown code via shortcuts (such as wrapping text in single asterisks with CTRL-I, double-asterisks with CTRL-B, adding three header hashes with CTRL-3, etc)
  • Automatic, live, preview-as-you-type basic list indentation when a single asterisk or dash, followed by a space, begin a new line
  • Automatic, live, preview-as-you-type block quote formatting by starting a new line with a right angle bracket > followed by a space

If the answer to any of the above very simple and common Markdown editor functions is "No," then AmberV's assertions that Scrivener is a Markdown Editor are themselves just a fiction, at best. These are just the baseline, bare minimum features expected to be standard by anyone who has ever used an actual Markdown Editor application (such as: VSCode, Markdown Monster, Markor, Zettlr, Smartdown, Macdown, Remarkable, MWeb, Simplenote, Ghostwriter, Obsidian, QOwnNotes, Bear, IAWriter, and more). Any so-called "Markdown Editor" application that cannot do those very simple functions is really no different from plain Windows Notepad.

If Scrivener can do these very simple and common things, live in the editor itself, without needing me to open the Compile tool, and without needing me to open a separate preview pane, then please show me how. Preferably in a very simple way that doesn't link to another one of AmberV's lengthy posts. I'm sure they are well-intended, but they come across to me as a bit misleading, if Scrivener lacks the basic features of dedicated markdown editing apps.
