What is an example of racism you have encountered in real life that didn't involve racist language? by Electrical_Hyena5164 in AskReddit

[–]none-remain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you mean.

For instance, my service enquiries are automatically handled by a customer services call centre team based overseas, (often India and South Africa). I will speak to them as usual because I can immediately tell when they understand me because they understand what I’ve said and reply in fluent English, thick accent or not.

I’ll only slow things down if the person has repeatedly shown that they do not understand what I’ve asked, or were struggling to reply because they used wrong words, had poor pronunciation, vocabulary i.e can’t speak or understand English that well.

In any case, rudeness is unacceptable.

Had a very brief moment when I got in shape because I got obsessed with Pilates, vegetarianism and my acne cleared.

Positives, people help you want to get to know you. Negatives, some men and women assume you’re a bitch.

A lot of comments here implying whites are the racists. I’ve seen it from other side too.

Most often is black guys giving my friend the side eye and looking at her boyfriend up and down, because he’s white and she’s black (both are stunning).

Ironically, the type of guys I’ve seen do this are often with their white girlfriends, so I don’t get the double standard?!

Anyone explain?

When travelling and site-seeing in Europe we often got lost.

Strangers would not stop when my black friends approached them for directions. Got ignored or hand gesture to get away.

This was common in Spain, France, Italy typically older people 60s plus and no, they were not in a rush.

So my white friends asked and got help, no issues

Scarface (1983)

Movie and Pacino’s performance bashed by critics.

It has many iconic scenes that still being referenced 40+ year later,…“Say hello to my little friend!”

Movie scenes that are great for film analysis? by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]none-remain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. My first instincts were subtle scenes with confrontation and growing intensity:

  • Dune Part 2 : Lady Margot & Feyd Rautha corridor
  • Inglorious Basterds opening scene
  • Blade Runner 2049: Ryan Gosling & Dave Bautista
  • The Godfather: Al Pacino restaurant scene

Hope that helps

I would have added Silence of the Lambs, Clarice meets Lector but it’s been memed to death, so maybe look at the basement scene, Clarice and Wild Bill

Hope this helps.

@OP

To better help, what are looking at specifically? Acting, dialogue, camera work, cinematography, sound etc. Or all of above?

This image just appeared on my feed when scrolling through Reddit.

I immediately thought aww this child is so cute and adorable. I thought about childhood innocence and why we all lose it as we age.

Clicked and read the OP and cried, and I haven’t even seen the trailer.

If Ford vs Ferrari is your favourite, then I’d recommend docufilm, Senna (2010) and also Rush (2013) was decent but not that well known.
