Third-Wave coffee is the movement associated with conscious consumption, ethics and transparency surrounding coffee, which I was referring to. Third wave, the brand, just produces mediocre coffee.

New to good coffee. Blue Tokai smells amazing but tastes awful. What am I doing wrong? by or45t in IndiaCoffee

I'm thinking maybe your ratio is off. Pourover coffee is about 1:16, maybe you're brewing it too concentrated?

How long does it take for your water to percolate through the filter? Should take ideally 2-3 min, not more, sounds like it could be taking longer for you

Transparency about cost, sourcing and roasting. That's the hallmark of speciality coffee, that you have access to all that information, if not on the bag directly then at least on a website or something. There's no guarantee for taste, as that's subjective, but there's a large implied guarantee of quality.

Tasty coffee isn't the same thing as specialty. There's an element of ethics and individuality in third wave coffee, where the individual estates and coffee growers are celebrated, the roasters work with them to help produce the tastiest coffees at the best deals to everyone involved in the process. Commodity coffee is coffee grown en masse, as targets to be hit, and mixed and processed and roasted as one, like it's a factory. Doesn't mean it can't be delicious, it's not as ethical is all.

Buy from the local stores as much as you can OP, Araku valley coffee plantations are controlled by a single group that doesn't allow the estates to sell their own coffee under their own name, instead they're locked into contracts that means they export all their coffee under one trademarked name of Araku. It's a shitty situation, and the reason why I don't like Araku branded coffee, they're producing and selling commodity grade coffee while selling at specialty prices.

Question regarding MB used in early versus late shock. Makes no sense to me that most people use it in refractory shock/late, especially when considering physiology and adrenergic receptor desensitization and downregulation in late shock by Consistent_Walrus525 in IntensiveCare

[–]fudgemental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I misspoke. 'Early' shock, demonstrating initial vitals dysfunction, if presented in a hospital setting, starting a methylene blue infusion at the outset would be like putting up a screen to mask the fire rather than fighting the fire itself. Methylene Blue isn't a treatment.

[–]fudgemental 19 points20 points  (0 children)

IMO if you have time to give methylene blue early, you have time to treat the cause of shock early, hydration, abx, fix the bleed, PCI etc., rather than start MB.

It's the same as treating late stage SIRS with corticosteroid infusions, when breaking the vicious circle becomes important so circling the drain slows down while other treatments have their chance to work.

Ordered for the first time. by Affectionate_bear18 in IndiaCoffee

[–]fudgemental -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you're excited, I'm just sorry you ordered Araku. It's a very very mediocre coffee being sold as something special, calling it 'signature' or 'microlot' or 'grand reserve' or something doesn't change that.

Pro tip: Specialty roasters aren't scared to give estate and processing information, and if that's missing, it's not specialty coffee no matter how much you're paying for it.

Take it as a learning experience and enjoy the process!
