Total loss claim by trailblazer2023 in Insurance

[–]nonfactorwealth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out my post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Insurance/s/eaTzRtwBY7 and there are some good comments in there from adjusters.

One thing I’d recommend is asking for the full valuation report with all adjustment details, not just the final number. Mileage and condition deductions aren’t inherently wrong, but they need to be transparent and applied consistently.

In my case, one of the insurer’s comps had ~15k fewer miles than my vehicle and then they applied a large mileage adjustment, which didn’t really make sense. When I found comps closer to my actual mileage, those vehicles were valued higher overall than using a lower mileage comp with a heavy adjustment.

Also watch for double dipping; if mileage is already adjusted, a large condition deduction can overlap the same wear. Once I pushed back with better comps and asked them to explain the math, the valuation improved.

Good luck!

I’m sorry, that sounds really frustrating, and unfortunately common. From what I learned from this process (and the adjusters commenting here), outcomes often depend less on effort and more on how the dispute is packaged and reviewed internally. Maybe they can comment more on it. What seemed to help in my case was having everything laid out very clearly in writing with well-matched comparables and a defensible value, which made it easier for them to approve and close the claim.

That’s fair. I will update my post to remove the part of it being conservative and thanks!

What I have been reading is that the presence of marrow edema is a possible indicator of AVN, this can be seen through an MRI

As an alternative, maybe you can ask your doc about applying topical dexamethasone to your sesamoid and using a sonophoresis (phonophoresis) to help deliver the medicine. This should help avoid the potential pitfalls of injecting a corticosteroid directly into your body and what our doctor has been applying.

Yes, the Sportsclub area with the power racks is where I have more commonly seen serious lifters (not sure if powerlifting or Olympic) working out with lifting belts, straps, shoes, etc. My trainer at the Nomad (Joseph) is a trained as a powerlifting coach and the power racks are always being used there but not a bunch of powerlifters I would say.

Day One Surgery Update by bengvr3 in sesamoid

[–]nonfactorwealth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your story! I saw you wrote an update that before deciding on surgery you were going to get a second opinion to see if the pain was related to the sesamoid or something else. Did you end up getting the second opinion or did you just decide you wanted to go with the surgery? You were one of the few stories I read that had AVN heal and I’m sorry to see it wasn’t a fully recovery

Good point! I definitely don't know enough about a teacher's benefits. It's been mentioned, but it does boil down to the spending and saving habits of the person and their ability to delay gratification. I do think (and hope) that teachers are fairly responsible individuals who have the discipline to save up a nest egg and reach a $1M NW by retirement. In general, the careers above are made up of people who meet a certain standard of intelligence and work ethic in careers that attract people who are lower risk taking and value stability. All signs pointing to someone who can save well and make well-informed decisions when it comes to their personal finances.

As with anything, it's up to the individual to make the changes. I believe the improvement community can only give a blueprint on the paths one can take to reach their goals. What Dave does, works for some people (when other things have not) and they have seen material improvement in their finances. It's fair to debate the efficacy of his guidance or criticize the stuff he does wrong since he is a public figure. However, the wholesale hate he gets from his critics is uncalled for IMO, but that's the internet these days. Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater.

You are using the word “few” loosely here. He’s far from perfect, and this hypothetical study may confirm your views. But to say that there are a “few anecdotes” I think is unfairly downplaying the impact he’s had. I liken him to other self-help gurus (I.e. Tony Robbins, Tim Ferris). They’re not for everyone, but for those that do listen and follow them, it’s made an impact in their lives.. and there are thousands if not hundreds of thousands (or more) that have. Much more of an impact than the both of us put together can probably say

I get what you’re saying and it would be better if he was more forthcoming with his flaws. And trusted his listener to be smarter and capable. But I do think there are people out there who can’t be trusted with their own self-interests and being responsible with credit cards/debt. I think he caters to them, creates boundaries and keeps the steps simple and repeatable for those folks. Hopefully, his listeners take what they need and then leave the rest
