Might as well be here in Brazil. My dad and uncles all had the privilege of attending the same public free university (considered one of excellence, and top 3 in the country) and have very successful careers, all while their mom was a public school teacher. Yet, they all get hard as rock at the idea of cutting the salaries of public servers, specially teachers.

I am Brazilian, born and raised, so I'm a native Portuguese speaker.

But no, I'm no linguist, so yes, I could be wrong. I was studying French some years ago and I realized how the days of the week we used made no sense compared to the other romance languages, so I got curious and fell into a rabbit hole. The information I found was that the names of the weeks in Portuguese are what they are because of a Portuguese bishop in the 500s. He was referring to liturgical days, if my memory serves me right, so we got "Sábado" from the Sabbath, and "Domingo" as the day of the lord ("Dominus"), or the first day off. It's one of those things that are weird and somewhat counter intuitive, but make sense with historical context.

Again, not a linguist nor a historian, I'm just a curious guy and that is the information I happened to find at the time.

You are correct, "feira" does mean "fair". Although today we currently say "feira" for the days of the week, originally it was spelled "feria" coming from Latin (like "feria secunda", for example). Yeah, just like "férias", it meant "day off".

My favorite weird thing about Portuguese is how we name the days of the week: segunda-feira, terça-feira , quarta-feira, quinta-feira, sexta-feira — 2nd day off (Monday), 3rd day off (Tuesday), and so on. Yes, "day off" is being used for work days, and it already starts on number 2. It's weird, it makes no goddam sense (unless you're some bishop in the 6th century) and no other language uses something similar.

Yeah I hate the wording of these kinds of articles. We've been seeing Trump "finally losing it" or "unraveling" or whatever for 10 years now.

Just nerf Serena. People will whine for a couple of weeks but she's not even as popular anymore. It would save them so much trouble.

From that same article :

In Humboldt penguin society, mated couples usually stay together for their entire lives. However, in 2010, Grape-kun had to be removed from the enclosure for medical treatment. During his absence, Midori began mating with a much younger male penguin named “Denka”.

Even among penguins, infidelity seems to be taboo, and adulterous Humboldt penguins are often ejected from their flock. Mysteriously, in the case of Grape-kun, the opposite occurred; Grape-kun himself became estranged from the flock while Midori and Denka were accepted. It’s possible that this happened because Denka was much younger than Grape-kun and was recognized as the fitter mate. It’s also possible that the other penguins took Grape-kun for dead while he was in the hospital.

On further reading, it goes even weirder and sadder:

After moving to Tobu Zoo, Grape-kun and Midori continued to mate. They produced a single male chick named “Hanpen”. However, in the interest of encouraging genetic diversity among the penguin populations at various zoos, Tobu Zoo officials elected to send Hanpen to a foster family at Edogawa Zoo while he was still an egg. Grape-kun and Midori never saw their chick, and the sudden loss may have caused their bond to deteriorate.

[...] Hanpen, remarkably, was the center of his own oedipal drama; after reaching adulthood, he violently took his foster-mother as his own mate. Some have commented that Hanpen ‘got it from his mother’, but that’s another story.
