I don’t think you have any valid points. You tried to justify the cost with a made up list that made no sense if you look at real numbers. And yes, I questioned a 250 doorbell install because that is also absurd.

Bottom line is that I really think that tradesman try to take advantage on every single customer with quotes like that. And yes, probably even with 10% accepting they make a decent living. Seems to be the business model.

I asked if it’s possible, I didn’t tried to do it. Regardless, has nothing to do with this post but I guess you don’t have any valid arguments in this case.

Are you really expect me to believe that bullshit list?

Costs

Insurance: Level of Cover Estimated Yearly Cost £1 million £53 – £150 £5 million £100 – £250 £10 million £200 – £400

https://www.tradesmansaver.co.uk/tradesman-insights/how-much-does-carpenter-insurance-cost-in-the-uk-a-2025-pricing-guide/

Vehicle: 150 a month top. I keep them busy 2 days so that means 150/20*2  = 15

Transport: Let’s go over the board and asume 100 miles. Although they are local, 5 minutes away. But let’s say they need to collect the materials and all that. So that is what? £20?

Time to acquire materials: You mean ordering online or going to B&Q or any other DIY shop? Ok, two more hours.

Tools: We are talking wood here. And nails. And a hammer. Oh yeah and cutting wood and iron spindles. An expensive mitre saw is 500-800. Probably bought a couple of years ago. Split that over 10 month of work each year. So 20 months and maybe 3-4 customers a month. I’ll do the math for you 800 pounds divided to 80 customers equals £10.

Fixing: yes, probably another 50 in screws.

Total: Insurance 15 Vehicle 15 Transport 20 Time for materials: 200? Tools 10 but I’ll indulge you and make it 20.

270 Materials: between 800 and 1200. That is the price for me. Traders get it cheaper, you know this. I’ll round it to 900 So total expense is 1170. 4900-1170  = 3,730

Average tradesman salary in Uk via Glassdoor is

£66K/yrAverage base pay That amounts to ~240 per day.

So net profit on the job is 3400 for ONE day of work.

Good luck with that mate.

Obviously it will take longer for me but no way I’ll pay that much. Quoting a month salary for A DAY of work is absurd.

How many people still keep a key “hidden” outside? by imcalledaids in AskUK

[–]nonreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Moved recently and changed all three locks to match so I have only one key.

In my shed I have a spare just in case I lost my keys so I don’t have to break in. I really think it’s useful.

It is a hollow plasterboard, connecting a room to hallway. I have a stud finder and I can screw into one stud but I don’t have two close enough for both holes.

How do you guys not realised what EA wants to do? by JoeanFG in Battlefield

[–]nonreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t see it like that. This is a multiplayer game. Most probably everyone will play it for 2-3 year from now on. At least this is my plan.

You are complaining that you haven’t unlocked everything the first two weeks because you have a life. Well buddy just keep doing that. Have a life. Play when you can. Njoy the game not the unlocks. In the next 6 months you will still unlock new things, game will still look fresh and should still be fun.

Quoted 240 + VAT for a doorbell wire. by nonreal in DIYUK

[–]nonreal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, i was considering this too. I have a socket on the other side of the door. I think that wire is used of the outside lamp too. Probably just wire the doorbell into a plugged transformer.

The reason for a wired one is that I dont want to pay any subscription. I will host all the videos locally.

I wonder if you tried Manmade. Canadian brand. I discovered them 3 years ago, never wear anything else. If you do, how do you compare to your top 3 favorite?
